Why do the Dems think talking to a TV comedian is gonna help their credibility?

That's like football coaches asking for plays from the couch potatoes watching it @ home

Same reason Stephen Colbert was at the 2006 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner talking to Bush.
Why do Republicans always shift blame?

They may be comedians but they're also knowledgeable about politics.

And it looks good too.

man did you read the article?
the answer is even in it!
Quote:
“Jon Stewart is influential in America, so we took the opportunity for the two to meet and to discuss the economy,”

do you feel that him being a comedian discredits any and all of his opinions?
childish will be childish.
Why did Obama go on The Daily show?
wanna ask a question like that?
why would obama want to talk politics with colbert...man nobody knows...

Again, why does that discredit his opinion about politics?
Could it be that you don't know why and you are just bitching because he's a comedian?
Put him on CNN and he'll be drowned out by the other 500 pundits.
But the point being this.
What jobs do they have to have for you to not be upset?

I think you need to stop hating on one political group and start hating on them all equally.
I agree.

Before a taping of one his shows after the warm up guy leaves, Stewart comes out and takes questions from the audience. One of the recent tapings I went to I asked him "Have you ever thought about getting involved in politics as a career?"

His replay was something like: I get asked that question a lot, and the simple answer is money. I make more money doing what I do now, plus I get a lot less flak if I mess up doing this than I would if I were a politician. So, No, I won't be running for president.

He is a funny guy and smart. I get that. But how can we as a whole take him seriously when he calls the President a dude to his face? Lol be it obama didn't mind, but the fact he has no political experience.

I love Jon Stewart. The rally was brilliant. His show is brilliant. He's left leaning and biased, yet he still does a damn good job at being as fair as a person can reasonably be in his shoes.

Kudos to him. Although he'd say (and he has) that it's a riot that other news shows are looking to Comedy Central for serious advice, I suspect he knows he is very much a real player in the political news world. He knows his stuff, he does his homework. Colbert is the same - different comedy style, but does the same leg work.

If everyone could treat politics the way he does, we'd get a hell of a lot more done.

So you have a stick up your *** for it because he treats people like people rather than positions?
I'm just trying to wrap my mind around why exactly this bothers you...and well other Republicans for that matter.
Not like they are running policy with the hells angels or a death row convict lol.

I honestly am not a big John Stewart fan...in regards to his comedy so don't take that as me trying to defend him or anything...I am a big Colbert fan though.
facetiousness is great.

Yep, that's just the point - Obama is no more super-human than anyone else. Every elected official is just a person, born of no experience and no more right than anyone else. Wrong as it might seem, I talk to everyone I meet the same way, with laughter and honesty and smiles. I wouldn't change it if I got the chance to talk to Obama either.

I honestly miss Bush.
He was entertaining.
But you weren't bashing a government official.
you were bashing Jon Stewart, so try to get that straight.
the news articles about stewarts rally kind of pissed me off from both sides of the fence.
you have people that will eat every word you say on the dem side and then you have people who will not consider even thinking about whatever was said or only be receptive to negative things said rather than taking things as a whole both sides of the fence pick their pieces that they want to rant on and then they rant.
They call out news media for being overly dramatic sensationalists and their reply?
overdramatic sensationalism....so I guess that's how it's gonna go.
didn't CNN have like 30 some pundits or something during the recent election lol.

that's why I am forced to ignore a good deal of what "real" newsstations say because as the rally stated.
overamplifying things make you hear nothing...and that's very true.

Bush was an awful public speaker. Not just bad - I mean it's almost like he was trying to fail. I'll laugh at that, but I won't fault him for it.

The problem with Bush wasn't that he gave terrible public facetime, it was that his decisions were often very questionable - and I even voted for him the second term.

I do realize that no politician would ever be perfectly aligned with what I'd have wanted them to do, I won't hold them to that standard. But boy, he did a LOT of shady stuff in the name of national security.

The Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln
