While I do think DNC is more than just a healer, I personally do think you should have 5/5 haste samba as it not only supports your DD, but the whole parties too.

DNC is a shitty job. Why? Because it wasn't in the original jobs that FFXI was released with. Just like NIN and SAM are terrible jobs because they were added with RotZ.

See how much sense that ***makes? It makes about as much sense as saying meriting Haste Samba is useless/not worth it/"DERE ARE BETTER THINGS 4 DNC 2 MERIT". gtfowts.

Let's do some fairly straightforward math.

Dakini/Athame (OAT)= 195/211

/NIN = 20% delay reduction. 406*.8=324.8 rounded up to 325.

Assuming we have 22% gear Haste (Turban, Rapparee, Dusk Gloves, Desultor Tassets, Dusk Ledelsens +1, Swift Belt). Also assuming we have Marchx2, Haste, and unmeritted Haste Samba.

62% Haste. (1-634/1024)*325 = 123.5, truncated to 124 delay.

Now let's just assume we had fully meritted Haste Samba.

62%+5%=67% Haste. (1-686/1024)*325 = 107.25, truncated to 108 delay.


Now we take the unmeritted delay versus the meritted delay to find out how essential this merit is for a DNC to correctly function.

124/108=1.148, truncated to 15%. capping your Haste Samba in this situation will be a 15% increase to your DoT and WS frequency.

I figure at least 50% of threads here get derailed into gear/job debates.

Every job can be played different, but that doesn't mean its not wrong. You can certainly use Axe/Axe on war and do dmg but is that as useful/efficient as GA. If you want to do Epeen dmg on ws maybe you should rethink the whole dnc thing.

We know what a hybrid is, doesn't mean they're good at what they were made for, though. You can say hybrid all you want, but fact of the matter is, nobody invites dnc for the fact that it can provide some (shitty) DD while it does the other stuff. We invite dncs for haste samba. This is the main factor. Take that away, add other the other stuff combined and we won't want the job
