I for one would love to see it legalized.

And not for my personal enjoyment (although I would have some enjoyment in what I would do to the potheads anyway)

HOly crap, I said lung cancer not such ailments like bronchitis, wheezing, and general difficulty in breathing.
What is this?

What is this? You ignoring my point.

Whilst smoking tobacco increases the chances of lung cancer more than smoking marijuana, you can still have a cancerous lung tuma develop from smoking marijuana. Stop nitpicking at the one stray sentence in my posts and consider the point you've ignored. Smoke alone will still cause your lungs to decay. It doesn't matter where it comes from; marijuana, tobacco, your house on fire, etc; it can still cause cancerous lung tumas. There's just different names for different types based on where the doctors think you got it from.

***, I could go my whole life not smoking anything (which I have so far) and avoiding breathing in someone else's fumes. My house could catch on fire tomorrow, I could inhale a deadly amount of smoke, survive the blaze, recover in hospital, and then develop lung cancer in later years because of the permanent damage caused by inhaling so much smoke.

You might not be talking about bronchitis, trouble with breathing, etc, but guess what? Smoking causes all that ***because it fills your bronchi with smoke and kills them. And when they're dead, they're dead. They won't grow back. So yeah, filling your lungs with smoke will cause bronchitis, wheezing, difficulty with breathing. Just because you didn't bring them up, doesn't mean they're not related.

Which means my previous post was wrong. It's the hippocampus that shrinks, not the hypothalamus. Whoops. That's what I get for not citing a source.

Should discuss or gtfo in my opinion, "Just no" is no justification.

"Senator, I believe we shoud legalise rape."
"Why?"
"Because, just, yes."
"Damn, let's do it".

Need an argument to support your view. If you don't want to share it or don't think you should, fine. Wrong topic though.

I have no issues with medicinal marijuana, but I don't want to see recreational marijuana legalised. And before you say "but tobacco's worse!", I agree. That's why I also wish it was illegal. But we all saw what happened with prohibition, so.

The problem with medical right now is the controls are weak at best. I know people that get there doctors to proscribe it for just about any problem they have even if they haven't actually been diagnosed with it. Bah doctor I got back pain can I have weed? Sure thing! Or I don't sleep well headaches etc.. Now sure in things that its proven that it works and is the only thing or at least the least harmful thing that will sure. I mean you try finding another way to get a chemo patient to eat anything. It is pretty much impossible. Also yes bring back speakeasies!

Why wouldn't you? I haven't seen any documented info on the negative from anyone yet. If you want to make a convincing argument I suggest you do so.

Yeah, I see how it works. His point is ***, but I thought he was replying to my point about smoke killing the lungs, so my bad. I do note that that point was completely ignored by both of you, though. Selectively replying it seems.

Although that aside, it is ***. Lung cancer isn't caused by inhaling a specific substance; just the form of cancer associated with tobacco is. You'll still have a rapid decay of lung tissue from inhaling smoke regularly, whether it comes from an exhaust pipe, a joint or from your house burning down. This is scientifically proven; it's just the specific form of cancer that can be argued; but then, that's not the point. We're just arguing semantics. At the end of the day, it's going to kill you. I hope having died from a marijuana tuma is comforting on your death bed, knowing you didn't die from a tobacca caused tuma.
I have no scientific grounds to prove your other point wrong, so I can't exactly address it. I have no reason to believe you're words are accurate or true either as it'd just be me taking your word for it. References halp. Anyway, if you're going to be rude to someone quoting information from a source as well as contest a point they weren't even making, then yes I'm going to point it out.

This seems pretty worthwhile to look into and I'd be curious to see more studies on it for use that was more indicative of an average user. Good post!

Quote:
PARTICIPANTS: Fifteen carefully selected long-term (>10 years) and heavy (>5 joints daily) cannabis-using men (mean age, 39.8 years; mean duration of regular use, 19.7 years) with no history of polydrug abuse or neurologic/mental disorder and 16 matched nonusing control subjects (mean age, 36.4 years).
Is this saying both long-term AND heavy-use or 15 participants that were either long-term or heavy use?

So what it ultimately boils down to is the fact you think what you think, and unless somebody quotes and links to articles of somebody else saying it, you won't believe it? How do we know what he quoted is not something he typed himself? He never gave a source; but whether I believe him or not, I give his opinion my time and interest because I am genuinally interested in this subject, discussing it with others and hearing the opposing point of views. However, when people's opposing point of views are just scientifically false, it's a little hard to have the same mentality.

And, I appreciate you don't jump to a conclusion just because one person says something.

You make it seem like that was my only contribution to this thread. And to be honest, what I quoted is a ridiculous statement that is completely false. I don't need to link to articles or quote sources to make it false. Anyone with even the simplest education in the lungs and how they work would see that post as false.

I'm seriously not going to justify myself for getting worked up when something with zero truth is used as an argument against me in a debate.

Initially I disregarded the entire article since you linked it in a joking manner and blanketed it with "makes you crazy." I expected a satirical newspaper cartoon or something. lol Sorry if I didn't take you seriously, but after reading over it the effect described still seems quite rare and seems to show teens around the age of 15 to be at the highest risk. Worth concern, yes, but the last part labeled "How strong is the causal effect?" made me a little less worried about it as opposed to Narrubia's article which seemed to be a much more serious concern.

Given the information I'd still think if marijuana were legalized they'd institute a strong age limit as well as put quite a bit of money into educating the masses of possible risks like these. I can't say if that's really all that valid of an address to the problem, but I have to think people would become more educated about it as opposed to the black and white attitudes towards marijuana when lumped together with other drugs as it is now.

Smoking causes lung decay, yes. I recommend you take your own advice and do some research if you smoke everyday and aren't aware of the health risks. Read back a couple of pages, particularly my posts, about how smoke, whether it's cannabis, marijuana, tobacco or benign smoke, will decay and gradually destroy the bronchi in your lungs, thus ultimately causing a build of decayed cells, ie. a tuma.

I lol'd at "lol at your mind decay", though. :)

I only read a few pages because those on the anti-legalization side/gateway drug end of the argument gave me a headache. It's not a gateway drug and the reason it's construed as a gateway drug because of the stigma associated with weed since it is illegal people that smoke weed are pigeon holed with crackheads or heroin addicts who steal for a fix. Before you spread *** useless facts that someone else has put into your head formulate your own opinions, fact of the matter is that our prison systems are over-crowded with minor drug offenders and our tax dollars fund that. But also legalization of weed IMO won't do anything for the economy because weed is easily grown it's not hard to produce by any means. So if the government is selling bags for 20 bucks when they can be bought for 5 who's going to buy legally? Plus it's not like if a cop pulls you over they can tell if you're smoking government brand weed or drug dealer weed. Legalization would be nice, less imprisonment for petty crimes, thus less tax payer money going to waste, but that's not a big enough perk for the government to legalize it.
