You could even have one person safely soloing Excalibur while the rest of the party focus-fires other enemies down one at a time.
Was what a dnc/nin and later nin/war did when i last did this, works fine

Fomor Ambuscade V1
Not saying you cant, just donno how worth it is, largely comes down to pt comp/player level i guess but feel like they go down quick enough to not be a real concern.

Was what a dnc/nin and later nin/war did when i last did this, works fine Even supposing you can manage to get to the 80% evasion rate (not sure how much these guys would require, probably something around >1600 eva? And that's no small feat) we're still down to the point that 2 swings out of 10 would still hit you.
Is it worth it? Considering it has a cost in terms of time and effort. Putting all those eva buffs for one player specifically it's something you "have to do" and it has a "cost" in terms of coordination, time spent, etc. Tested again, maybe the BLU's set wasn't up to par, it does indeed work. Red Mage makes a huge difference in this fight, over using a White Mage. Spharai and Bravura can be pretty deadly, so got to watch out for those, but the others are simple. Good to fight Aegis/Mandau early to get them to pop their 1 hours, unless you're strong enough to kill them before that.
As for Excalibur, it is much easier if 1) you can enfeeble it to death with a Red Mage (Slow/Para/Blind/Dia etc.), 2) you have some form of shadows (blink works), 3) you can stun often, and 4) you can kite around a pillar when needed. Or at least stop fighting to Bind it. Leave Excalibur til last and stack the enfeebles before you engage. Blue Mage helps a lot on the stun/blink front. You will need at least one decent heavy DD, though. I base this on my linkshell group's experience on Difficult, before moving on to VD for our last fight. We used 1 hours to make things easier. Setup on VD was: PLD/COR DRK BLU BRD GEO RDM Ragnarok.Jukiro said: » While sudden lunge stuns all of the fomor, the stun effect strangely doesn't work on the Ahriman, at least before all the fomors are dead. Flat Blade does work, and I'm assuming Leg Sweep as well but I haven't tested it yet. I was certainly stunning the Ahriman before the fomors were dead with Sudden Lunge Cerberus.Kylos said: » Leave Excalibur til last I came to the conclusion that actually it's more efficient to deal with Exca first. If all goes well the most "dangerous" fomor is gone, if it doesn't then at least you wipe at the start of the run and can exit/re-enter at the beginning of the run instead of the end. It's certainly more efficient, but not very meaningful to be honest. I mean, you are probably approaching capped hallmarks by the time you've saved an hour over the alternatives. BRD/COR/NIN/PLD/RDM/WAR > Savage Blade
NIN > Excalibur YouTube Video Placeholder I have usually come Ninja for this one, and I'll blink tank Excal if it's present and it's usually fine. As others mentioned, RUN and Battuta can surely tank some Excaliburs too with a little more risk. We usually bring a party like PLD or RUN (usually PLD for us just based on available jobs), WHM or SCH, BRD, DD#1, DD#2 (NIN is a good choice), COR or additional DD. EDIT: Did several runs this weekend on NIN, did indeed blink tank some Excaliburs fine, added good damage. Relix Bump
Princess bard sleepga, stun, kill. Hope the Ahriman doesn't curaga. Hope you don't get Excalibur. The most straight forward ambu. Easy but tedious. Usual monthly video covering the run. Good month for jobs of all kinds. Have a great month all.

I've seen and tried 3 different strats this month (didn't play it back then), and tbh I had the smoothest runs with a tank-less comp while killing the Ahriman first lol. I didn't even think that was a VD run when we tried this comp (coming from the NIN or tank strats).
Team composition: DRG(sweeper) & RDM mvp + DD COR BRD WHM I guess DRG can be replaced by any other reliable Stunner, but at least whenever DRG is not stunning it can still deal high damage. DRG (stunner + dd) - Focus on stunlocking dangerous targets such as the Ahriman at the start while DD/BRD/COR zerg it dowwn. Same thing with the most dangerous Fomors like Excalibur if you wanna just zerg it. DD - Assist killing whatever tarrget is focused by the DRG/stunner COR - Chaos/Sam ofc and act as DD assisting DRG's target BRD - Can sing nq songs then NiTro Horde Lullaby the pack once the RDM brings them in, DDassit with others once all are asleep. WHM - Cureskin the RDM before pull (the WHM wasn't doing it but it's ideal), Accession > Blink for Excalibur to make things even safer although shouldn't be needed. If RDM sucks and won't Silence the spellcasters (or if u don't have a RDM in un party), use Barthundra and Barsleepra to counter Shock Spikes and Sleepgas, keep Sublimation on. RDM - The real MVP of the fight probably, as having a RDM with enfeebling potency BiS or close to BiS will make the whole battle smooth and safer. Keep Haste II/Phalanx II on basically everyone, Refresh III WHM and Enfire or En-day urself. Get into aggro range to pull NMs towards the start, keep shadows up with /NIN if needed and once BRD lullaby is done, you'll pop Saboteur and start crippling all NMs with specific priorities: Alternate Para II/Slow (( casts on most dangerous Fomors, prioritize the Ahriman first with Para/Slow (should be enough), you could also Dia and Addle but Saboteur window is limited and the Ahriman will melt anyway while stunlocked. Your goal as RDM in this fight is to remain ahead of your DDs enfeebling NMs while they're asleep before they get engaged, so you'll wanna prioritize Silence on Claustrum/Apocalypse/Mjolnir/Excalibur, Para/Slow on DRG WAR MNK etc, Distract III on THF (MNK / NIN good candidates as well), Addle for BST (but prob para/slow it's enough, both Silence/Addle won't really matter if they are stunlocked properly, they're just nice to have in case, specially Silence). Once key debuffs are up on relevant NMs, you can switch to DD mode, so your job will become casting Dia III on the focused Fomor while zerging them. Ideally by the time you finish to put key enfeebles on all NMs, Sabo will be off since 15-30 seconds and you'll just go braindead DD mode focusing whoever the DRG is focusing. If Excalibur will Invincible out of stunlock, you can switch to Crocea/su4 to keep damage going while shadowtanking it. Stunner DD + RDM debuffs is what made this fight a breeze, BRD could also help trying Elegy to most dangerous NMs, but that's probably overkill. |
