I tried to once, but I'm classically conditioned for it to be like that, so it actually disturbs me to not have the window effect going :)

Very impressive.....how you can play a galka when it takes up that much of you screen and is so ugly! Good job!
The same way you can play Taru, even though Tarus are clearly food for Galkas ;)

Just go back and read a few pages, or look in the PUP thread at the half dozen or so posts about people asking about it. If you don't have JP, you'll probably need to drop an OF or lower the Mana Jammer or whatever (I'm not a PUP main, so I know nothing about optimizing). Though, you could just go play PUP for an hour or two and get 100JP relatively quickly killing bats in Dho Gates. It's really not a process anymore.

I mean its easily soloable/lowmanable on a lot of jobs on VD, you just have to avoid quenching hammer either via tp denial or job choices and have some kind of plan in case adds pops. I don't think I'll bother making an ambuscade video for this month since frog low mans have been done to death.

It never used it in 4 runs at all? No real TP denial.
Then I took GEO wondering if I could GEO haste... then it spammed hammer. Still won.

Who said anything about standing around waiting for 30 seconds to get extra buffs?

It takes some amount of time longer to apply rolls than it would if you went without. My opinion is that the time you save isn't much more than the time taken applying the buffs.

But if you don't care about decreasing your win times, you do you!

I don't care about saving time passively through buffs and you don't care about saving time actively through repairing and swapping gear. We do we!

Then don't sit there waiting for buffs at the start? Just send the puppet in ASAP, you're still going to be standing around for a couple minutes out of range anyway. Perfect time for a COR who is also just standing around to toss some rolls on you. Maybe I'm not as optimized as could be, since I usually wait on the initial Beast Roll then run in, and get Companion's after I have the puppet set up and I'm just hanging back.

I get that you are awesome and all, and you don't need no stinking Phantom Rolls. As someone who is also awesome, I don't need no stinking Phantom Rolls either. But like... it's not that controversial to think that Beast Roll is better than no Beast Roll? And some people might not be as awesome as the two of us (they'll get there) and actually NEED the roll to kill the thing in their Overdrive. I find it better to talk about the options for people who may need them more than we do.

I mean, you already want as many actual players as you can get, even if solely for the additional Gallantry. Anything beyond the one PUP is not strictly necessary, but if bringing more players is better for points, why not have one who can come with the best buff in the game for your pet, in a pet-focused fight? If no RDM with me, I actually like COR/WHM to give both rolls AND Dia III (II+light shot). I think most people accept that things like buffs and Dia are a positive - even if they are not a requirement to win. It feels like you're actively arguing against things that make sense to use, for no reason other than to prove you don't need them.

Pretty simple even without a PUP. Was doing this tonight with MNK COR RDM SMN WHM. A 6th was there just to earn us some gallantry.

Our MNK didn't seem to be able to get TP quick enough to self skillchain. Possible with /dnc, but they wasn't used to doing that, so he went back to /war.

I was on RDM. Silence can take some time to land, so we just waited until that stuck before the MNK could begin. Frazzle III helped a little. Also applied Dia (Light Shot), Paralyze (Ice Shot), Slow, Blind, Distract III and Impact.

There is a small chance that the silence might half resist. That happened to us once and the SMN was caught unaware and died. Best to stop feeding TP and keep away until it is silenced again.

SMN was doing typical melee buffs pre-fight. Run in, do a mewing, run out. Rinse and repeat. WHM with Auspice (MNK capped on SB with Moonbow +1/Niqmaddu/Sherida), Boost-STR, Regen IV, and regularly using Cure III for Cureskin. COR did no rolls and was only there to hit Light/Ice Shot.

That's about it, really. I guess another DD with meditate and regain gear could run in and WS it every now and then to speed it up.
Easy month. Thanks to everyone for sharing their tips.

So I'd never played PUP before levelling it to 99 last month, wanted to try soloing the Frog and after a bit of JP and some trial and error I think I've gone 6-0 over the last few days getting kills within or just after Overdrive ends. Thought this might be helpful for anyone else wanting to give it a try.

Job: 99PUP / 49COR with Beast Roll
Skills: Automaton melee skill should be max
Merits: 5/5 Automaton Skills, 5/5 Repair Recast, 5/5 Fine-Tuning, 5/5 Optimization
Job Points: I would say 100 is necessary to equip sufficient light and water attachments. Getting up to 125/150 isn't a bad idea as that gives you the first MDB and MEva gifts for your automaton. Invest primarily in Overdrive Effect and Automaton HP as those are the only ones that will affect this.
Food: Kusamochi

Equipment
ItemSet 401181
  • Ohtas: Fully augmented

  • Anwig Salade: Pet -10% Damage Taken

  • Vicusius's Mantle: Pet +10% Haste, -10% Magic Damage Taken, +20 Acc/RAcc/Atk/RAtk

Head, Frame, Attachments
  • Sharpshot Head + Valoredge Frame

  • Optic Fiber 1 + 2

  • Turbo Charger 1 + 2

  • Mana Jammer 1 + 4

  • Auto Repair Kit 3

  • Magniplug 2

  • Inhibitor 2

  • Coiler 2

  • Attuner

  • Flame Holder

Strategy
  1. Summon a Trust that will cast Dia (King of Hearts)

  2. Summon a BST Trust (AAMR)

  3. Beast Roll, I usually go for 9+. If I go bust I wait and just respond to some work emails or something lol.

  4. Start your maneuvers. Order doesn't matter, just make sure you have Light + Fire + Water active 100% of the time.

  5. Once all 3 maneuvers are active engage + deploy. Swing at the frog to let your Trust cast Dia and then disengage and get out making sure you are >30 units away from your automaton.

  6. Wait briefly and let Auto smack the frog a few times. I've had immediately using a Maneuver or SP activation apparently pull threat once or twice :/

  7. Activate Overdrive + Heady Artifice Macro:

Code
/equip main <wait 1>
/equip main Ohtas <wait 4>
/ja "Overdrive" <me> <wait 1>
/ja "Heady Artifice" <me>

  1. Position yourself so you are about 30.2-30.4 away from your automaton and slightly closer than that to the frog. This should allow you to see the combat log safely.

  2. Make sure you keep your maneuvers up and now just wait. Watch out for Quenching Hammer - usually it will only deal about ~220 but sometimes it will spike and hit for about 1800. Usually that's the only time you need to Repair. If you run in just after it happens you've got time to Repair and get back out.

  3. The frog should die right around Overdrive's completion or shortly before. If he's still alive then I suggest swapping to Light/Wind/Water maneuvers and hopefully the automaton will be able to finish him off.

This is not a foolproof method, like I said there's been a lot of trial and error lol, but I've been on a good streak at least and was pleased to get it working without investing in Taeon, 1200JP or any particularly difficult to attain gear (except possibly for Shulmanu which after deciding I wanted to try this very fortunately dropped during my group's most recent Omen run).

I am ashamed, but, this is the set I've been using on VD with 2-3 minute kill times with usually 20-30 seconds left on OD : o.

ItemSet 401225

Taeon is mostly 4~5 +DA and -DT, with 23-25ATT on 3/5 pieces and ACC on the other two. Can use crep. earring if you don't have alabaster or Sroda. My greatest sin with this is accessories were a luxury, as was a neck piece... so I uh.. didn't have any of those slots filled most of the time. I only just remembered murky/alabaster/crep earring had pet stats and that I had sroda earring.. so they were equipped out of remembrance. Otherwise... 100% downtime on a neck piece, and the 2nd ring slot.

Initially was doing it with just 100JP, but decided to just bite the bullet and push for 1200JP. It's doable with 100JP, but with that set you'll just reliably be doing D. If you push the extra 1100JP, you can do VD.

Using a scroll of instant stoneskin(from curio moogle) will allow you to take 1 or 2 hits with 0 damage while KoH fires off Dia III and can then run off to safety at a distance.

What attachment setup? I have the Taeon set 5/5 with 25acc/-4DT/+5DA, SU4 Hands. Pitre body +2 for OD. OD keeps running out by 10-20%.

@1200JP I'm using:

VE/VE
Attuner, Flame Holder, Inhibitor I and II, Magniplug I and II
Optic FIber I and II, Auto-repair IV
Steam jacket, Mana jammer IV
Turbo Charge II

With 100JP you have to drop Optic Fiber I, and drop Mana Jammer to 3 - this makes VD challenging, but D spamable.

I must be doing something wrong, I trio box with 2 1200jp Pup plus Master Cor, did Beast and another Pet regain roll, my gears is not the best but one Pup have full Mpaca with some half *** assesories , and the other one just kinda poor gear except the Range and also the weapon is Othos

So i do the roll, go in, use the 3 Light Water Fire, and OD, when both OD wore off the frog still have like 40% hp...... do i need work on my gear

Are you both doing OD at the same time, or back to back? I have been told that putting two autos on it at once will mess with skillchains but I still think you should've done better than 40% HP remaining.

Both fire off OD asap, now i don't have that od body (gonna work on it) and should work on Teon body for second Pup. Their automation skill are all max and the Beast roll/ Regain roll are like 11's.

I have tried it 3 times now all got killed by that stupid hammer (or add when i forgot to roll lol).

I am thinking maybe i should try D or even N first to get a hang of it but I must be doing something really wrong that everyone is having easy time but me with 3 guy lol. My cor is also a Pup just not very good gear maybe i do 3 OD instead with /cor for roll? :p

If you have two PUPs, I would do one OD at a time so you can take advantage of skillchain damage. Getting killed by Hammer is a skill issue that you'll fix with experience.

Is your puppet capping haste? You say that you arent using great accessories.
Well augmented taeon, klou belt and the ambu cape with haste is all you really need. I use 3/5 augmented taeon and Mpaca hands/feet.

My attachment is something like this in the guide

VE/VE (the tank puppet)
Flame Holder, Inhibitor I and II, Magniplug I and II
Optic FIber I and II, Auto-repair IV
Mana jammer IV
Turbo Charge II
I forgot the other 2 but i think it is the multiple attack one or stabilizer

For accesories on my main I have that Eng Earrin that add pet attack, the belt that add like 7% haste, my back is the one that people use at the guide with -10% PDT +10% haste +acc etc.

I am thinking it is more of my skill than anything that I cant take this VD down with 2 puppet lol. Maybe i will try N or D tonight.

Also not sure if it worth it since i am using full Mpaca, i actually do have access to AF+2 or Relic +2 set from Deed voucher exchange that i never use, not sure if those will help?

Thank you

Sounds like you're missing both pet gear haste and pet magic haste. I'd suggest swapping Inhibitor 1 for Turbo Charger 1 as using Light Maneuver under Overdrive with both Turbo Chargers and both Optic Fibers should cap your magic haste. Gear haste you want to find 25% - the easiest way to do that seems to be 10% Haste on cape, 10% haste on Ohtas and then 5% on a belt like Ukko Sash or Klouskap.

Also if you're using 2 PUPs at the same time and you have Companion Roll active I'd say don't equip any Inhibitors and just let them Bone Crusher over and over and forget skillchains.

Assuming you can equip everything I'd try an attachment setup like
Optic Fiber 1+2
Turbo Charger 1+2
Magniplug 1+2
Mana Jammer 4
Auto Repair Kit 4
Coiler 2
Flame Holder
Attuner
Last slot could be Coiler 1, another Mana Jammer or a Tension Spring.

Lack of pet haste will be the biggest decider in ability to win, for sure, if that was missing

Haste is the most important thing ever. Its better to be fully hasted than alive.
