Frog Ambuscade V1
Reminder that Fickblix's Ring from The Voracious Resurgence reward is a very nice boost for automaton for this Ambuscade. If you're planning to go PUP for a lot of points, and you could afford to swap a TVR ring until after a weekly conquest reset, it's something to consider!
Overdone. Basic DT set, gifts and food/oil for the pet is really all you need for this month. The external buffs and debuffs don't make enough of a difference in such a short encounter.
Of course it's not needed for a maxed out PUP. But hey, not everyone IS fully comfortable with PUP or has the same gear or familiarity.
Honestly, if you're needing Repair at all, you're either doing something wrong or under 100/1200 JP. And if you're under 100/1200 JP, yeah, this ring probably does make a significant enough difference to improve your kill times meaningfully. If you're planning to do a lot of Ambuscade on PUP and don't really need the use of a TVR ring for the rest of the week, why not use the easily available excellent option? Drop ring, book warp to Xarcabard right next to the Dyna entrance, pick new ring. Takes less than a minute. Can repeat after every Sunday. If you run this enough, you'll find that occasionally CS will drop your automaton HP lower than you're comfortable with. You use repair mostly as insurance, but also because oil is cheap and you are not. I understand the idea of using the best gear you have available to you, but we're talking about dated content that's been on farm for years now. 'Dead inside of overdrive' is about as optimal as most people need it to be. Is PUP able to take this thing down without OD?
If so, I assume the plan is to buy a bunch of Dawn Mulaum's and spam as necessary? Just looking for a way to farm while waiting on OD downtime. I've run it enough to clear out rewards multiple times when this Ambu comes up, and I don't ever need that "insurance". If you are properly geared and have appropriate attachments, you shouldn't be dropping to dangerous HP levels even with Chainspell and Kaustra. Oil may be cheap, but getting smacked with Quenching Hammer because you have to move well into range to use Repair is risky. Mistime that, and you ruin your run. 'Dead inside of overdrive' is about as optimal as most people need it to be. Then don't use the ring if you don't want to? I just called it out because this item did not even exist the last time this Ambu came along, it's fairly easy to overlook, and it's a major upgrade over the next best ring option (10% automaton damage increase on a ring is no joke). And it's free in gil cost, for the relatively minor inconvenience of temporarily not using another TVR ring for part of a week. If that's appealing to someone reading this, cool. If you're fine without it, also cool. You aren't everyone, and players who are not you might not have this "on farm" yet and might appreciate the suggestion. And some people who DO have it down might also be interested in using a massive upgrade in the ring slot to decrease their kill times. Absolutely, you don't need this ring to win the fight. Nor do you need ML or lots of other recommended/BiS items like Xiucoatl, perfect Taeon augments, whatever. But this is FFXI, since when was highlighting a piece of objectively BiS gear for a particular purpose something unusual? Carbuncle.Kittylove said: » Is PUP able to take this thing down without OD? Shouldn't need to spam healing items, but kill speed does go WAY down without OD. If you want to spend the majority of a 30min time limit whittling away a frog's HP, go for it. But even without Wild Card, you'll probably spend less time overall by just AFKing until Overdrive is back, then doing the fight in 3min instead of 25. Especially so if you have a Cutting Cards or two available. If going without OD, two PUPs skillchaining does speed things up a bit. I recall doing that occasionally in past years as a filler run to wait on SP1 being back for the next. But honestly, I find it a better use of my time to go make a sandwich instead of actively engaging with a dumb frog. See what you do is you tribox it, with cors
the cors have 15 cor mules for log in earrings You rotate 32 wildcards/cuttingcards nonstop while logging them in and out You get your daily logins done and get infinite gil from collecting on 32 mules. Grind that grind son all day erry day (you will hate life but youll have 10 billion gil) Very simple month, doesn't require PUP SP at all.
Currently doing this with RDM/SCH WHM BRD/DNC, 8 minute runs which I'm sure I can get down but is otherwise not bad for blind runs. -> WHM does WHM things; prot/shellra/barwatera/fira, Regen IV on everyone. BRD doesn't buff. RDM Haste IIs, Phalanx II, Temper II. -> RDM engages. Standard debuffs. Frazzle > Paralyze > Slow > Dia III > etc
-> When adds pop, Dark Arts AOE Sleep II, then pull back 30' to avoid having them woken up. -> Crank boss -> BRD sings finally -> Crank adds. Add 3 DD to this setup that won't proc Quenching Hammer, and the run is easier then a V2. I manually change to pet WS gear when my automaton has TP, so I dip lower than most people who just idle in pet -DT gear. Hammer is not risky because you are smart enough to wait until after you see(hear) the move being used before you approach. I agree that people should play how they want to, just realize that optimizing old content is excessive beyond a certain point. Stand there waiting 30 seconds for extra buffs, so you can shave 35 seconds off the fight... right? There's a reason it's never been a strat before. Also, mew drainkiss tickle etc, take significantly more tp than absorb-tp Also also, cooldown, 1 caster of absorb-tp isn't going to do a whole lot. And the frog is immune to geomancy, so geo isn't as useful of a job. It can still haste/fury. Oh, I figured since frogs are usually light-based mobs that he would be weak to Dark element. This is a misconception that I generally had for a while, because the BG wiki page does list resistance values for monsters in the same grid as the weapon type weaknesses. You would naturally think "if monster A is <element> based, then <opposing element> should do more damage on it". But that grid just shows the monster's resistance to an element, not necessarily their weakness (Thanks Martel). It's also not always as simple as "mob is <element1> aligned so <element2> should work on it". Umbrils are Dark-aligned monsters, but take extra damage from Fire+Light (as a native species weakness), as well as Earth element, which is darkness aligned. There's not always a formula to how monster weaknesses and resistances work in this game, it's kind of weird but also unique to each mob. In any case, the ambu Poroggo is the blue kind*, which has a 70% resistance rank to Darkness element, and he's a BLM, so super high INT (Jesus Christ, look at his MDB LOL). Just like you can't land most enfeebles on Ongo without Elemental Seal, I doubt you can land anything on Frog without Stymie or ES either. Casting anything besides Dia on this guy is just a waste of time. * ![]() Just want to state that I was wrong about Absorb TP strategy not working on this ambu. It 100% works, and it's just as fast/faster than MNK strat. After our Aminon group, we brought the exact same party into the fight, silenced the frog, fury/frailty/dia4/songs/boxstep10/chaos/tact or misers, and let the DNC Climactic + WS it down. The frog died in 3-4 Climactic WS (would have probably died from Ruthless x3 but he used Rudra's instead), under 40 seconds. 99k everything. Absorbs landed fine even without a Threnody (we used wind for Silence but may have switched to Dark after). Its immune to frailty, btw
Slot in bst and slug it's def down, or angon (its not needed) Surprise that absorb tp works "well" not as well as mew but good enough I forgot xD
I was in aminon mode so I didn't even flinch, just threw up bubbles, attack was way over capped and everything did 99k with it doing nothing. So GEO does even less Just checked my logs, seems this thing doesn't have the magic evasion I thought he did. Frazzle landed no issue, did not use Dark Threnody (the weird symbols are from battlemod)
[RDM] Frazzle III ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura RDM Frazzle III ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura (Magic Evasion Down) [Buukki] Absorb-TP ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura [Buukki] 250 TP Absorb-TP ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura [COR] Absorb-TP ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura [COR] 280 TP Absorb-TP ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura [DNC] Rudra's Storm ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura [DNC] 99999 Rudra's Storm ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura Darkness: 99999 ¨ Bozzetto?Necronura DNC was also meleeing for TP, not WS disengaged, which fed the frog TP (since he can't cast). Made absorbs juicier, so others can WS as well if you get TP. Added Impact + Inundation. Literally same as Aminon Strategy. (Sorry Wakmidget you were right) Looks like he was indeed
Typically abs-tp doesn't work well that's why mew was the goto and not /drk for the last 10 years. ... and macc has gone up a. lot. Seun said: » I agree that people should play how they want to, just realize that optimizing old content is excessive beyond a certain point. Stand there waiting 30 seconds for extra buffs, so you can shave 35 seconds off the fight... right? Who said anything about standing around waiting for 30 seconds to get extra buffs? All I suggested is that: (1) it's a small bonus to Beast Roll to have a BST in party, so if you're bringing people to stand around solely for Gallantry maybe have one of them come BST (or call a BST trust if going without a 6/6 party, which you can do in a couple seconds) (2) Bringing a RDM is helpful for Dia III and enfeebles. But that requires zero additional waiting. But if you don't care about decreasing your win times, you do you! Is this note on BGwiki outdated? I read it today and was sure I did this on DRK before.
Quenching Hammer - AoE (~30') Damage, Full Dispel, and Aspir. Damage is increased based on number of buffs on targets including Runes and Geomancer spells. Excludes food, Maneuvers, and SP Abilities. "This move is only used if either RUN, PLD, DRK, or BLU are in the party or the player has songs, rolls, or geomancy bubbles on." The unbuffed SC method works well, and avoids quenching hammer entirely.
Rdm Sam or Mnk Cor Whm whatever whatever. Rdm dia3, silence, paralyze, slow etc. Haste2 on dd. Cor light shot for dia, ice shot for paralyze. No rolls. Whm auspice, boost-str and keep cureskin up to lower tp feed. Rdm/blm preferred and be ready to sleepga if he pops adds on the first TP move (rare). Idr if sleepga works. Break with /sch also an option. Subtle blow food. Your choice if max subtle blow set or not. Maxed auspice + food puts you at something like 2 below SB1 cap. I went with more hasso+ instead of subtle blow. Sam 6 step, open with ageha. Mnk whatever steps they do. For Sam this is one of those cases where aeonic is a lot better for the SC damage. Haven't tried with prime. They're 2-3 min kills from entry if the DD is good. Easy setup with two spots for anything. Shijin > Tornado Kick x3 kills it. BRD COR RDM Sylvie as buffers.
Unga Bunga! Mountain meeple, we dance with wind people! Errr... Frogs.

Just think every frog you kill is one Negans relative you are slaying just for your vain desire of money
For the love of all that is holy turn off the Window Effect setting
Very impressive.....how you can play a galka when it takes up that much of you screen and is so ugly! Good job!
Is the barrier to PUP just spamming VD quite low?? All I'm seeing is full Taeon in mhaura lol
It was quite low years ago, before gear creep and Master Levels. Taeon 3/5, Anwig Salade, Mpaca feet/JSE earring for automaton level+1, and Ohtas (cap Automaton attack speed). Or any combination of gear that stays ahead on health. 100jp/1200jp helps out, but not required.
