If the Flamma set got a measly -25% DT and a bit more meva, it'd be in most dps sets for the jobs that can use it. It's pretty amazing from a pure STP/MA perspective. Probably the few other pieces Thorny mentioned too.

Think they could just do the +4 AF route and give it a acc/macc/meva/mdb boost and that would work, SE's been throwing DT around everywhere else that you can get away with one or two pices of 0 DT and still cap out.

There's also a whole slew of unity armor(even weapons potentially) too, could have applied one or even both to this new content with the keys and you'd have a slew of recycled new gear that both new and old players could be using instead of whatever completely new gear they're popping out, would promote doing the older content too to get the base pieces

If they really wanted more/better options there are thousands of 119 they could put 5 DT and 120 meva on.

They'd rather let AI decide to make some new throw away gear designed to last 40 days.

And receive zero backlash, and multiple *** kisses in the process.

How and why they're trying to hit the worlds smallest target between RSE+1 and Nyame R0 makes absolute zero sense.

Lots of unity NM gear that could be great situationally with some minor updates too.

Often I feel SE is very encrypted on the words they use when it comes to the future of FFXI. There was a paragraph mentioning in the July version update that said

"The game's 24th Vana'versary is behind us, but there's no time to rest, as we've been working nonstop since May on the monthly version updates as well as the underlying systems for our mid-to-long-term plans for the game"

I read this as they are possible going to disconnect the PS2 launcher PlayOnline from the game as it limits the capability of the game is overall what holds them back from updated UI, Graphics, QoL, and progression.

Furthermore another example would be the most recent update of adding roaming nm to Adoulin zones and mention its the next step after ambuscade +2 gear, sure it can be a teaser but could this be +3 ambu gear, could we see Magian trials for ambu weapons.

None of that is happening. Some QoL maybe - they've already spoken about pup attachment sets in the vanilla client.

I’m pretty sure AI would do a better job at assigning stats than what SE has given us lol.

half the time they don't even give new players RSE +1.

and that's half the time since they invented it, which is biased by "hey we want FFXIV players to crossover", it's gonna end up being less than that at this rate

gap's bigger than you think!

The point is, it shouldn't be. RSE+1 IS the gap gear. It should be on full time, and they can +2 that with Stranger Happenings V2 starting in 2 days.

Instead of whatever dumbfuckery they have planned.

Also got something of a bad hand as at least a few months after that was all done gaol got released and invalidated much of the weapons/armor beyond niche uses, some are still decent middle-ground options.. if you discount the material cost to R15 much of them(wings are dirt cheap by comparison but also the smallest augment pool)

The devs will never get rid of PlayOnline as it's so interwoven into how FFXI and player's accounts work, that they could break the entire system if they tried anything significant.

- As for stop gap equipment, completely agreed on the Flamma Head +2. Is it good for veterans doing high end content? Hell no. Is it great for returnees doing old content? Hell yes. There's nothing wrong with them mixing old and new equipment together to make something they can use.

Returning players shouldn't need to be getting carried to V0 Odyssey clears at this point. Ideally, they would be able to gear up and take them on eventually without having to ask or pay others. Bridging the gap is a good thing to me. Selfishly we want new content and equipment for veterans, but we'll have to wait.

While nuking playonline would be great, I doubt that will ever happen as they dont have enough devs or budget for that.

what they probably meant about underlying systems, are the things they said that wanted to do this year:
- gear for trusts
- combining teleport systems into one system

They also made a vague remark or two about wanting to fix the underlying congestion issues that led to server closures, iirc? But I couldn't cite that.

You haven't even seen the stats on this gear, unless I missed something: what if it's got accessories?

It may have some accessories thrown in. But they also said that this new gear will be (paraphrasing) 'along the same lines as Unity gear, so be sure to do that too'. Unity already has a TON of accessories, and the upgrade process for R15 is fairly simple for everyone. I would be surprised (not really, just more bass ackwards) if they added accessories in this new "bridge gear" content, while also advertising to do previous content that gives accessories, when the main focus for gear "after ambuscade" should be the head/body/hands/legs/feet slots. Because those are the main pieces of armor that provide large amounts of defense/hp/mdb/meva/-dt, which is what I thought was the point of bridge gear.

Not saying they won't throw accessories in, easy drop from NMs or whatever this key box thing is. Just sounds conflicting to in their messaging. But whatever, I have been wrong on their interpretation on content releases before.

I kinda figure most of the gear will be "meh", but its likely there'll be a few pieces with niche uses either because of the jobs on it or a more rare stat that will still be desirable (maybe buff duration or something) which if is a 'rare' drop they could make BiS to encourage help from endgame players, if it common they could make it worth getting vs. the hassle of trading stones to the npc all day. (not saying they will do this, but pointing out there's space to satisfy both players (newer and vets) just by adding a rare stat and balancing with existing stuff)

Don't know what will happen, but I'll be cautiously optimistic there will be a carrot or 2 in there, but it could be a face plant like the limbus weapons too.

I'm hoping by accident they make decent DRG feet. Not going to do limbus lol. I'd rather wear r25 nyame if I need to then do limbus.

if they *** up and actually give BLU buff duration for the first time in a goddamn decade or whatever, that'd be so nice

it wouldn't even break anything except maybe giving full Mighty Guard uptime!

They had a full UI rework on their test server, but they shut down the test server and all plans for it when they transitioned the game into its original maintenance mode state. I think I'm the only one that even made a video on it:

YouTube Video Placeholder

Maybe the only time you'll see this on an official FFXI server:

in Byrth's example he got
(745 x5) 3725 Segments in a B run.
Let's just assume he was slow, because he is dual boxing, focusing on Moogle Mastery and not necessarily max kill speed, so his segments could be higher than that if he straight killed only Nostos and Agons. PS galkas are bad

I'm up to a consistent ~860 now that I've swapped Ygnas for Valaineral. Valaineral helps pull, heal, and is pretty beefy. Uriel Blade also does about 4~5k damage and opens light. I'm pretty sure its enmity is not based on damage dealt (probably just AoE Flash) because we don't pull hate off him with cures. I think I might be able to push it to 900, but 1000 is probably off the table without a real bard character.

In fact here is my true solo hero sheol B route:

Strongest dd, needs to be able to pull and have rr up with full dt and high def sets. Valaineral, monb, sylvie/koru moru, ulmia, that POS cor.

Enter, go straight up stairs to top of f1, check for halo. If halo, call trusts, pull a mob and buff. Clear mobs, find a less occupied path to halo. Engage halo before running in, kill halo, pull back. Clear agons.

Move down both stairs, ignore all mobs. Look for halo on lower floors. If halo, repeat. Go up to transporter from f1 to f3.

On f3 go straight and right, check for halo. Go back and run all the way to porter up to f4. Do one or two halos on f3 depending on time. Skip f4 run straight and right up to f5. F5 go up stairs, check for halos on each floor. Depending how fast you kill will have time for 1-3 halos on f5 max. Open chests on f5 on way to exit and exit.

The boxers will be able to kill more halos and/or go from f3 to f6 and walk down instead of running f3 to f4 to f5. I don't recommend doing f6 at all solo.

This was my actual route for farming izzat for boxes in B. Did it at various points tru solo, 2-box and 3+box. ~800 segments sounds about right, depending on halo placements.

Only started going up to F6 from F3 at 4-box.

Your post makes it sound like there can be multiple halos per floor. Am I missing some kind of repop mechanic?

Also, with Hoxne MNK I pretty reliably oneshot anything that isn't blunt resistant and two shot anything that is, so it kind of doesn't matter what floor I kill stuff on as long as I am careful to not get overwhelmed by damage.

There can be. F6 can have multiple halos, as well as F5. F3 I don't remember exactly, I think there can be up to two.

I would prioritise leaving about 50% of time for F5, to account for >1 halo.

Killing fast isn't the issue, if you aggro a lot of mobs on F6 they will wipe you fast.

Do you mean NM pop vortices? There is one of those per floor and another spawns after a halo is cleared.

For all the Sheol zones, there are three halos with a single type of beastman that can't use SPs, and then the last floor has a halo with multiple beastmen types that can use SPs. In B, the halos are on 1, 3, 5, and 6. I have keyed a billion hides running through the whole zone bottom to top and never seen double halos.

I'm pretty sure I've seen multiple halos, as in multiple groups of Agon mobs, on floors 5 and 6, but could well just remember wrongly, it has been a while.

Floor 5 has possible halo pops on almost every floor.

It's true they can pop in many different places, but there is only one per floor.
