I tried.

Seriously, I tried making a staff damage build on WAR, PLD and then MNK. Staff WS's are even worse then H2H ones, no matter what I couldn't get Full Swing, Retribution or Shattersoul to do good damage, their fTP is too low.

Great staff for Cataclysm which MNK can use to aoe cleave stuff. So that's something...

That brought back a few memories. Back in the day (2005) when we were regularly camping Tiamat, we used to experiment with MNK's using Full Swing. We moved on from that strat fairly quickly but the damage they did wasn't too bad.

I think Kirin's Pole is what we used for that at full TP.

That and Sneak Attack, yeah. A very lazy adjustment to MNK would be making Boost do something like Sneak Attack. But it would have to be amazing and not require being behind a target to be worth the delay...

Oh right.. I forgot they were MNK/THF. Yeah, that removed a little bit of fog from my memory. :)

Thats a shame, would have been nice to have some weird usefulness still in there somewhere.

You could also do a lazy - but potentially effective - Boost update by, say, making it a longer duration effect that buffs WS in some way while the effect is up. Adding a stat mod like Utu grip, added WSD, WS crit rate/dmg, STR, some sort of fTP mod, whatever...

Might require balancing timers, to see whether that effect can be maintained fulltime with minimal JA delay (i.e. don't have to use it for EVERY WS... give it a duration of at least 60 sec), or something like a 3min duration/5min cooldown.

every stack =

10% atk and 4% ws dmg with the down side being either -hp% or - def

Let each stack fade every 1 min

No, and I was exaggerating for dramatic effect and to poke at how awful mnk is right now. (My victory smites aren't doing anything north of 10k dmg @1000 tp and I use Vere AG and BiS gear according to OP).

Yeah, that was my point. He was saying he wished staff had a use, and that's a use. It's still kinda BS that most jobs don't need to switch to an otherwise inferior weapon to hit an elemental WS though.

raging fists setups (did not optimise ws gear but ..) come all greatly inferior to vicotrysmite @100 tp setups, execpt for godhands where it's slightly inferior. Didn't check howling fists, it's ***. ftp is not the only thing that matters for WS...

RF use's a radically different gear setup then VS due to WSD scaling on first hit, assuming God Hands anyway. Still it's really for when you've ended up Over TPing due to a MA proc when you were sitting close to 1000 since VS has ***TP scaling.

Radically different ? All you have to do is not bother about crit and all gear commes with str/dex together anyway. Weaponskill damage + and gorget are gimp, if that's what you were suggesting.


For mob stats It's written in my simulation, I assume capped ddex and fstr because there is no info. I checked the level 124 mob def/eva and I guessed higher level mobs stats this way. I don't put level correction either because I don't know how ilevel affects the DPS.

a) Macro it in for dodge.
b) Wear them while footwork is up. (Fun to see the kicks do more
damage, but imo gimps your overall damage.

There are better shoes to WS and TP in. I would say these are definitely the worst piece in the set.

As for your inquiry about HF, yes it is str/vit.

Actually if you read the previous pages, Anchorite+3 feet come up as BiS in not all, but many situations for MNK.
Things gonna be even better when reforged Empy legs come out, granted that won't happen for a long time.

Not saying Perf Herculean feet sucks or that there aren't other valid options, but Anchorite+3 can be much better than you're picturing them off. Go read the tests some pages ago, think they were made by Byrth and Ramzus.


I just couldn't find any other valid use for them other than TPing (and the obvious swap for lolDodge of course). The stats on them are pretty meh compared to most other WS options.

ya I had kicked around the idea of the feet, past pages show them as good, however its so minimal the gain over herc feet that they would come 2nd to last to upgrade for me, last being legs.

This is my thought progression on what is best to upgrade to +3 for dps gains: hands>body>head>feet>legs. Does this seem about right? Plus I am realistically thinking you could probably stop at head, as feet/legs arent really worth doing at all? Or what are your thoughts? I got 80~ cards so trying to decide if I am about done in omen on mnk or to go for the full 5/5.
