I remember in FF7, I always ended up selling my most expensive stuff (mastered All materia for 1,400,000 gil?) to the shop in North Corel, where they are all hobos living out of tents in a wasteland. XD

I remember an NPC in FFXII That was the same situation, he was stuck on that floating continent city and needed gil to get back, and since he was close to the near by mine dungeon, he bought all my loot XD
