This thread reminds me why Canada is the greatest country in the world! (Gogo nationalism.)
From speaking to my 5 or 6 Canadian friends, I've come to realize that your government has some "Serious" consumer protection practices in place. One of my friends couldn't get a credit card for several months. Here they are given out with little or no income verification.
... yea but that is in store for a good reason, I take it Canada is watching our debt consumption, so that, us the consumer doesn't elevate our country into a more serious matter. Were trying to fix out debt, not add to it.
Well that is kinda overstepping the bounds of what a government should be allowed to do... gdi a scarily large amount of grown adults need it. And like debt management and generally classes on how money works and earning it and spending it and debt/income ratios and just thigns that your parents should of taught you or should be common sense.

You would be suprised at the number of people that use credits cards and it never enters there mind they have to pay for it later let alone alot more. Or the number of people that will take out those pay day loans to pay off the last pay loan to pay off the last... etc etc etc for rediculous amounts. My roomate was litterally paying 100% interest every 2 weeks just to keep his balance the same. All the while spending money like it was nothing.

Im sorry for ur lose Holman. but you know every kid from birth to the age of 18 has the right to free health care from the government. Its just a matter of the parents to apply for it.
Nope they denied it and said it was a pre existing condition. Most of the Americans complaining are making well under 80 grand; most are making well under 5. If I had to pay extra money to make sure everyone in Usa had health care I would.

And fyi...same thing happened to my father they dropped him, and the hospitals tried to clean out his bank account. Yes these insurance companies are sharks.

And if the insurance companies go out of business and all thats left is the government you don't think its a bigger shark? Sorry for your loss, but these tragedies will never end, unfortunately, we all wish we everyone was born with no conditions and lived to 120+. With this bill they are hiring 16k new IRS agents. If you have not dealt with an IRS agent, you will find out they are just as bad if not worse than these insurance sharks.

And again...there are plenty of places to donate money to help people. I just donated to my neighbor's kid to help people who can't afford heart transplants. Don't make me or others pay for your causes. This is the bottom line many of us are getting at. I want to donate to help fight for beach access here in North Carolina, but I can't.

hey, don't forget the bigger picture. democrats were voted in to take control of the house, senate, and executive supreme in this country (aka president). the majority rules here, and this bill is a beautiful display of democracy.

you can love or hate it, but until you go out there and convince enough people to be on your side... well, then your just stuck with propaganda.

the good news is, you can repeal laws... or the bad news is, your in the minority and your butt will be sore.

BTW its not a democracy, its a republic. The thing is most polls, from all sides, conservative, liberal, moderate, showed overwhelming disappointment with this bill and disfavor with it. If it was a democracy this wouldn't have passed, if the polls were correct. And absolutely this is a flaw with a republic form of government, but it does pretty darn decent. Hopefully we will see a major shift, 2 and 4 years from now and get a repeal. I truely believe we will see a major swing (look at the most recent governor and senate runs). Problem with a pendulum is if you swing it hard, its going to come back almost exactly as hard in the other direction. God help us if we get total party control in the other direction. I'm sure that would present its own problems.

Those are bit different. They help everyone fairly directly and are also generally hard to dole out on invidual basis.

Military kinda can't same with CIA, FBI or really streets. Mostly cause they don't really do it for the citizens themselves as a country as a whole and the benefits of that trickle down. No one attacks the country therefore no random guy with machine gun from china is shooting me.

Police could have some system of only helping you out if say you were in the system as a tax payer... except ya know people could die in the time they were looking that up.

Firemen... well sure they could let your house burn but that endangers the paying guy next door so again kinda hard.

Schools could be done. However having an educated populace is generally better in alot of ways and history has kinda shown that enough of us wouldn't given the choice to make a big difference.

We sorta do pay in part for post offices. I mean I really doubt all the stamp or shipping cost or PO box cost are being done at cost.

Now alot of the other government agencies are different. And well might be met with similar dissapproval. After all this government was never intended to be this controlling

Gosh darn my quote function not working all the time.

CIA, FBI are for national security...think thats part of your basic defense for keeping country intact. After all, I don't want the british coming over here forcing me to drink tea or something.

Police, Firemen. Thats done on a city, county, or state level. You have a much larger voice in these than a national issue. Btw my town voted on whether or not to have a police department, we don't have one, we didn't want higher taxes. We worked out a cheaper option to have the town over from us send in their sheriff deputies from time to time.

Post office is dying... I say send everything fed ex (UPS sucks btw.)

Military, see CIA and FBI above.

Public Schools. Sorry I hate paying for these too, at least give someone a credit for sending their kid to a private school. Yes it can be done by the way, don't know how mom and dad did it, lots of sacrifice and elbow grease.

Departments of the government...see wasteful spending.

You live in a society and you need to pay for everything for everyone because your part of the collective. Sorry for the buzz word of communist...but well.

Yep...no British and tell VA,TN,GA,and SC to stay out of my state's bidness. Thats all the fed should be doing. I don't think thats insane at all.

That's the difference. While you would do that, there isn't a chance in hell that I'd spend my earned money on anyone other than myself, family or friends.

And it DOESN'T matter if you think that is horrible or if I'm a horrible person or if that makes America look like crap or w/e else.

What I earn is MINE. It's MY choice of what to do with it. And taking my money to give to someone else for any reason to give them for free what I have worked to earn is ***.

Oh i'm sure. Sue Myrick rocks by the way. Our area is so conservative people just came to her town halls to boo at the words universal healthcare, bailouts, etc. Funny to watch. Be awesome if she could replace Kay Hagan. Don't know why in the world we voted in Bev Perdue for Gov. and not Pat McCrory.

Thats a slap in the face to anyone serving in a uniform. Maybe we could all spit on them when they come back!

They are probably there for the oil anyway :rolls eyes:

Clean drinking water city municipality. I write my checks to Union County...not USA. I'm not taxed...its a business, they give me clean water, I pay for how much water I use. I'm sure state picks up some of the tab.

FDA is a little in the gray area. But even that has gotten way too big. Stuff takes sooooo long with them. I just had a customer complaining to me last week why they can't get some product. I said three letter, F D A. Then he said he understood b/c he knows how all those inspectors work since he had an employee that part timed at his store and saw how stuff just sat.

It's easy being on the other side of the fence. I use to think homeless people were lazy till I did community service. Then I met a guy who had to sell everything to pay medical bills. If nobody had medical coverage in this forum; I guarantee everyone would be for it.
