You can just engage your automaton and make that simple and boring as well, or you can coordinate your maneuvers and make use of it's versatility. If you want to, you can make pup a very boring and simple job.

In the same way, you can just auto attack on mnk, that doesn't make them a good mnk. If you want to excel at the job, you have to put a lot of effort into your playstyle.

Simple/boring = gimp player who doesn't know how to play the job. If that was your experience with mnk, you probably weren't very good at it.
