Ive been hacked twice -.-
I have teh token and I always use teh soft keybord!
Last time they moved me to Ragnarok!!!
Had a Keylogger I got from ffxiatlas I think :3

The onscreen keyboard apparently makes it easier to hack.

there's nothing wrong with a little security lesson to educate the "average FFXI player". Keylogging sites are bad, always update your anti-virus, DO NOT play FFXI over a wireless network, and don't share your personal information with anyone.

I remember when somepage.com got hacked, my anti-virus went bananas with all the crap that was on there.

if your passwords are 14+ alpha-numeric, case sensitive characters long, thats fine, ex. D3atHTvv0Cr@cklNg

A super computer can crack an 8 character password with alpha-numeric digits with at least ONE symbol... within 83 days.

bottom line... change your passwords more often.

no, I just don't like wireless networks, its the same as writing your name and password on a whiteboard and standing on the sidewalk with it in the air.

It appears you idiots are missing my point, its not only RMT trying to hack people, anyone with evil intent can do it. Just because your FFXI *** is safe, doesn't mean you have other things that people want to exploit.

And I bet you also use "The Club", those locks that stop your gas peddle from being depressed, a fuel cut off switch, an ignition kill switch, lowjack and a hand full other other devices to keep your car from being stolen... which works great until the thief brings a tow truck.

If a real hacker wants to get your ***, they'll just break into your house and steal your tower. No matter what preventative measures you take.

While I won't disagree with being smart about internet surfing (Firefox, no script, adblock+, not visiting strange sites, not downloading and running stupid programs, etc), saying that using wireless networks for ffxi is bad and needing 14+ character mixed case with special character passwords for ffxi is HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE.

You, Sir, in which "Other services" are you meaning by? You did not list the other services the anti-virus provide?

@Hypno, you're right, this is just FFXI, so an admin-length password isn't required, but I will stand by what I said, which holds a lot more substance than your idiotic banter.

@Neon, I can make a list, but since most of you sound like you think you know what you're talking about, it shouldn't be hard to know what those "other services" are that silently run on your computers.

If someone was going to hack your Internet i would hardly doubt they would park their Van/car outside your house just to steal your FFXI account, seeing as how they have to been in a certain proximity to even pick up your Network.

Ive used my Neighbours Wireless Internet plenty of times because the moron doesnt have a WEP Key, but i really wouldnt assume he has an FFXI account i can hack through his wireless Network >.>

WEP is a joke anyway. Just some testing in my neighborhood (20+ wifi networks) Aircrack retrieved the keys to all WEP enabled networks in under 2 minutes each.

WEP is indeed a complete joke for Wireless Security and WPA is not even guaranteed to be all that safe with someone who is genuinely interested in getting into your network. At that point not even hidden Network names or MAC filtering will likely do much, though, so it's hard to count specifically on dealing with the exception instead of the rule.

Sucks big time because my DS can't get online unless I turn off wireless security entirely. lol

I see a lot of people speaking about computer, visiting sites or running widower and whatnot.
A person very close to me (RL) was hacked not too long ago. That person NEVER shared info, never visited any websites, played on Xbox. Never logged on another platform. We even asked SE how did the whole hacking happened, and yes, the first answer was "do you play on PC?". After we replied no, they didnt give another answer related to the subject.

So, if anyone is willing to give me more options please go ahead.

Yes, uses a laptop sometimes to research info and whatnot. I also happen to live in the same house, I use a computer to play, and I wasn't hacked.

I dont know how true that is, but it makes me think that indeed the leak wasn't from us.

The only conclusion I and I assume most others can come to is he may have shared his info and is now just really embarrassed about it? Otherwise I can't see a scenario where he'd somehow get hacked. Absolutely no chance he used your computer at some point to play on his account? Maybe in that scenario you just lucked out with yours staying safe?
