I kinda don't see that as good content. Fewer people doing an event doesn't sound like the proper foot forward for an event like this. Who was this content made for? People who farm EP the legit way?

For Ultima I found RUN is able to survive Citadel Buster with 3x Tenebrae Valiance alone, however everyone should have Scherzo (SMN titan ward may work, I never verified). Scherzo + Migawari (maybe EA) is the only way for non-RUNs to survive Citadel Buster.

I went back in the logs and noticed Citadel Buster was used every 3-5 minutes, maybe timed based it's hard to tell.
I noticed Nuclear Waste was used Roughly 60 seconds after Citadel Buster so you might be able to plan ahead for fetters and pre-emptively leave.
If someone else has time stamps with logs saved it would be nice if someone could verify and corroborate my log timings with their own logs, but I had 4-5 instances of the 60 second timer so I'm inclined to believe it.

Scherzo + MDB buffs (Fend, Magus Roll) is great to have. I was able to get all TP moves reduced to 500-1k with those buffs.
With a bunch of MDB buffs the fetters were hitting for 150-250 and it made it much more managable to leave that chaotic moment alive.

I noticed Ultima used a full dispel 2 times in our kill, unsure if it's HP % based or Time based. It was used roughly 60% and 10%.

I think we spent about 1 hour 30 minutes taking him from 100% to 60% and like 45 minutes doing 60% to dead and DPS ramped up a ton when we had a bit of coordination. We would call what direction we were going to run to when Nuclear waste was used and we were able to prevent maybe 75% of deaths compared to earlier which was great.

Fun fight though, although the ability for someone to MPK it was not fun. Someone dropped a fetter at the start and I died once entering the zone -_-. Keep Ultima away from the entrance.

Let's be real, he's just going to bot or buy those points back. For the average player, though, the EP loss will absolutely dissuade them from wanting to do this content. Especially so if there is no personal reward. Once the novelty wears off, turnout for these fights will likely wane, though it may be a good thing to have less interference from people unfamiliar with the fight.

What? ..Put your party flag up or make an EP party. Otherwise, stop complaining.

Also folks, I never said this was great or amazing content. I just had fun unlocking the basement, and trying to figure out these new bosses. It was a nice change of pace from the usual run through of Sortie (blindfolded, at this point).

Anyway, if anyone is actually paying attention, this "content" is entirely predicated on WAIT-AND-SEE for treasure bonuses NEXT MONTH. It's entire design is transparent, to keep you subscribed. It's even in the name, "Ultima Forerunner":

TLDR: Haters, save your energy and your bitching for next month, when we're all collectively disappointed by the treasure bonuses you didn't help unlock >.>;

Thats not great content, sorry.
???

The content was zero minutes old. Nobody knew anything. We were stupid on purpose, but you don't have to be.

The hazards for not-tanks are:

1) Citadel Buster, which requires BRD in PT, SMN in PT or being a NIN for melee parties. If your party doesn't contain these, go pet job, ranged job or support.
2) Fetters, which are easily handled by not watching Netflix and bringing Panacea/DNC/WHM.

Most people will be 0~30' away from the boss between fetter spawns. Most fetters will spawn in the same radius. Player HP is massively inflated. A few fetter pulses won't kill you. Plan an escape route, scrub the elemental DoT once you're clear of the AoE and heal up.

It's not Domain Invasion, but it's not a Master Trial either.

That entire "the reward gets better next month, stay tuned!!!" is the biggest load of *** I have ever experienced in all of my days playing FFXI. They teased it with Vanabout for a while with extended campaigns and it was whatever, but now they're going full out "resub another month for the rewards!" and I really hate this model. The upgrades should be instant.

Something like 5 out of 10 of the most popular games today are 8-9 years old, and they stay so long because of seasonal content that keeps people subscribed. I can see SE doing something "crazy" like giving us a Moogle Iris from Limbus next month and moving the goal post to something else, for the next season.

You can say you want Instant rewards/gratification, but what you really want is the the FFXI progress treadmill to keep moving! ;)

I have mixed feelings on it. Big, server-wide collaboration to kill a major boss is pretty cool. I think it's even cooler for small servers, since they can't just zerg it in 3 hours.

On the other hand, it's content that just disappears for a whole month after you kill it. And, there's no rewards until next month, so we didn't really get anything new for December or the free-play campaign. If you play on Asura or Bahamut, the content is gone by the time that campaign starts.

I think the fight design and experience are ok, but the reward structure and replay ability need considerable adjustment.

After the first month you'll have to climb every tower ever day forever.

Sounds pretty rewarding on paper.

You want the new gear and the new augs for it, youre locked in. Everything will come from a/the box.

This is your last month of freedom, it's like your bachelor party. Enjoy it while you can.

Woulda been cooler if the world boss spawn was out in the open, like out in Al'Taieu.

Being cramped in the tight space of Temenos for Ultima is ugh worthy, and we need something cool in Al'taieu itself.

They also need to add some more immediate rewards I feel, or increase the number of units we get. And I'd prefer if they just had units drop per kill instead of per-bar. A lotta partial bar fill kills are left on the table for me, with the way I approach climbs.

Alternative wheel greasers would be:
Reduce cost of RPing with units.
Only require matter every 5 RP levels.

Right now it's a slog, and it seems like the ultimate fomo content. Where I think they're only gonna keep adding more to it, in the same vein and way it's going currently, so the longer people put off doing it, the more and more they're shooting themselves in the foot for later.

Had an overnighter person tell me recently, "I don't care about climbs, and I also don't care if they make an upgrade cost 1 million units! I get all of mine overnight!"

And I said, "If you aren't doing climbs, it will take approximately 66 weeks or 330 climbs to be able to hold 1 million units to spend."

I really do hope they course correct and make it more enticing to do, because if they don't, and then they release something people want bad but can't get immediately because of a massive total units held timegate, there's gonna be a ton of rage quits.

We're so far through the looking glass on people quitting

You see one guy throw a hissy and forget it's just one guy. While the other 9999 slog their *** through it every day with empty threats of quitting.

I think this is part of SE's playbook for the Treant Alliance in 2003.

.

Yes, you are correct. SE did the Twinkling Treant event in 2003, which was a giant Treant that we all fought at Level 1 (Status Effect), and the servers that killed their Treants, got the server-wide feature of Outpost Warps. Prior to this event, SE did a smaller/reduced version with an Undead Doom-type mob.

I think these Forerunners are SE's version of a low-stakes, item-level version of the Doom-type precursor event.

TLDR: Item-Level open area boss incoming. (a la 2003's Twinkling Treant-style fight).

Felgarr plays on Asura, according to his profile, and everything I sarcastically quoted was based on his post.

At the very least omega/ultima should offer bonus units (that isn't counted towards the weekly cap). Similar to how Mireu grants bonus domain points. They really do need a reward/incentive for people to come back and kill it month after month and not just sit out and expect others to do it.

As for the whole tuning issue, Probably not going to be as bad going forward now that people know what to expect. Wont just be 80 wars showing up expecting to zerg them, tanks will know to sub ninja and maybe more people will break out ranged DDs.

Tanks + Yagyu Ninjas party meta LFG! PLD/RUN/NIN/NIN/BRD/---
NIN in any party, really. Yagyu NIN looking like a neat party spot for this kind of content.
