Because the coronavirus outbreak needs its own topic.

And OH BOY does it get political.

Federal Reserve cuts rates to zero and launches massive $700 billion quantitative easing programFederal Reserve cuts rates to zero and launches massive $700 billion quantitative easing program

CNBC

Quote:
...
The new fed funds rate, used as a benchmark both for short-term lending for financial institutions and as a peg to many consume rates, will now be targeted at 0%-0.25% down from a target range of 1% to 1.25%....
If you have an ARM lock these rates in now.

If you have a conventional mortgage refinance.

If you are renting and thinking about buying act fast before the prices go up to compensate. They always go up when rates drop.

And do stay healthy.

Trump 'offers large sums' for exclusive access to coronavirus vaccine

German government tries to fight off aggressive takeover bid by US, say reports

The Guardian UK

Quote:
The Trump administration has offered a German medical company “large sums of money” for exclusive access to a Covid-19 vaccine, German media have reported.

The German government is trying to fight off what it sees as an aggressive takeover bid by the US, the broadsheet Die Welt reports, citing German government circles....

The German government was reportedly offering its own financial incentives for the vaccine to stay in the country.

The German health minister Jens Spahn said that a takeover of the CureVac company by the Trump administration was “off the table”. CureVac would only develop vaccine “for the whole world”, Spahn said, “not for individual countries”....

Millions in this country. Our largest age group is closing in or already past that age.

Dow futures just hit limit down, which means they aren't even allowed to fall any further. This is despite the Fed cutting rates to zero and Trump staging a press conference on Friday specifically designed to pump up the stock market.

Nonsense. I'm a 1944 model. Boomers start in 1946. They all have over a year to hit 75.

One of the rare "silent generation" (and my favorite generation!). I've noticed that, as the silent generation decreases in number, so does wisdom and self control in younger generations.

Letting our elders die off as "expendable," would be a terrible loss to the world. The contributions they make, cannot even have a monetary value placed on it, because it is the ways of life itself.

We really need to take this "social avoidance"/quarantine thing seriously, and with an informed, rational approach.

This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, sad to say but it's always happened with pandemics. The Spanish Flu pandemic ran out of steam when it ran out of new hosts because it's surviving hosts built antibodies against it. This bought scientists enough time to finish the vaccine.

If only you would have died then we would be subjugated to your terrible posts.
If only you had a life and weren't an insufferable waste of oxygen hating their life away alone.
Why do you hate Miss Hannah Minx so much? Who hurt you??

Anyways, here is some good news: 103-year-old woman becomes oldest person to beat disease.
Hopefully the doctors can find out if there is something special about this woman that helped her recover, and possibly use that info to help the rest of us.

It isn't about panic. It is about zero immunity.
People are focused on the fatality rate. That isn't the issue.

The direct fatality rate from covid-19 might be 2-4%, but that doesn't represent the true death rate. Because of too many factors to list. But here are just a few

1. Co-morbidity - Recovery rates from covid-19 do not tell the story of the long term effects of those deemed and classified as "recovered". That term does not mean anything else other than "they won't die from covid-19 and have been discharged, and they are most likely not contagious."
- We do not know how fast the virus will mutate
- We do not know what long term health effects it will cause on those infected by it
- For those who actually get pneumonia from it, they will in most cases have their quality of life reduced
- if you don't get it now, you will get it eventually. Meaning you're not safe from it, its coming sooner or later.
SOURCE WHO to paraphrase: 80% of global population will be infected by end of 2020"

2. The healthcare sector - its built and designed to deal with existing known diseases and conditions. Its managed like any other business - meet the demand with adequate supply. Most countries have a 5-15% additional capacity due to good governance for times just like these. But even with that good governance and contingency planning, NO ONE is prepared for this. MOST Definetely not the US that is already a fair margin bellow meeting the needs of its population's healthcare needs, EVEN PRE-COVID-19!!! because there are some (God knows how they exist) people in the US (coughrepublicans) who do not think Universal Healthcare should be a thing.. (scratches head..just don't understand)
Now those VERY same republicans are going to see their elderly relatives severely effected. All their friends and family members with some of the pre-existing conditions are going to suffer.
But hey, Bernie is a communist right? because he wants universal healthcare. Good, make sure Trump wins another 4 years.

Summary of point 2: You have enough Doctors and Nurses and support staff to see X amount of people. You need enough Doctors and Nurses and Support staff to see X*200 amount of people, which you do not have.
The wise wanted to stagger the infection rate by putting the country on a temporary lockdown. Allowing the healthcare sector to deal with different bursts rates of infections, while still dealing with ALL the OTHER pre covid-19 medical conditions.
Lockdown-> Treat -> Release -> Lockdown -> Treat until at least 60% of the population had been infected and treated for Covid-19.

ITS TOO LATE TO DO THE ABOVE
Because of Trump.
US needed to do the above 7 weeks ago. It didn't. What Trump did do, is make sure the economy wasn't disrupted.

3. Global Supply chain
As the BIGGEST consumer market in the world, does Americans really not understand what this means?
If Nations start stopping their exports and imports, what happens to the goods you see on your store shelves?
You've exported MOST of your industries and sectors that require big capital and labour, and moved towards consumerism and finance. Because you wanted it cheap.
Coffee, bananas, wheet, corn, rice...what happens to US mega companies like Apple and Amazon? how many jobs are going to be lost? how many more people won't be able to afford healthcare?

Canabalistic cycle. Its like the US was designed and primed to be severely crippled by the current situation.

Kinda funny. You just do the complete opposite of what the republic party says you should, and you should be ok.
Because everything they've done has lead to the current situation and the incoming crippling effects of this pandemic.

Bird flu detected in Nueva Ecija quail farm, can affect humans
By CNN Philippines Staff

https://www.cnnphilippines.com/news/2020/3/16/Bird-flu-H5N6-avian-influenza-Nueva-Ecija.html
Quote:
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 16) — The highly-pathogenic H5N6 avian influenza or bird flu has reemerged in the Philippines more than two years after a similar strain affected poultry in the country, Agriculture Secretary William Dar announced on Monday.

He said bird flu was detected in a quail farm in Jaen, Nueva Ecija. Testing for avian influenza was done on March 13 after 1,500 out of 15,000 quails died in a farm in Barangay Ulanin-Pitak, he said, adding that samples from 30 live quails from the said farm tested positive for the disease.

Dar said a total of 12,000 quails from the said farm were "surgically stomped out" and buried on March 14.

He explained they are implementing the "1:7 protocol" to control and contain the spread of the bird flu. This means only quails from the infected farm will be culled, while its one-kilometer radius will be considered the control or quarantine zone. Seven kilometers beyond that will be a surveillance zone.

"That farm will be the only one that will be 'surgically stomped out.' Hindi na ang population ng quail within the 1km radius," he said in a media briefing.

Human transmission possible
Dar said infected quails may pass on the disease to humans through secretions. He added there has been no record of human transmission of bird flu in the Philippines when the same strain affected Pampanga and Nueva Ecija in 2017.

"The avian influenza is a disease of poultry that can affect humans. However, the H5N6 HPAI (highly-pathogenic avian influenza) which affected the Philippines has not affected humans in the country," he said.

Dar said the Agriculture Department's quick response fund will be used to combat the spread of the bird flu.

The World Health Organization said it has not received reports of new cases of human infection with H5N6 between January 31 and February 6, 2020. In a February 7 update, WHO said a total of 24 laboratory-confirmed cases of human infection with H5N6, including seven deaths, have been reported from China since 2014.

"Whenever avian influenza viruses are circulating in poulty, there is a risk for sporadic infection and small clusters of human cases due to exposure to infected poultry or contaminated environments," the WHO report added.
