Back when I was living in Arizona, I met quite a few Hispanic kids who grew up in Spanish-speaking homes and could read English just fine, but somehow couldn't read Spanish.
I never understood that. English makes no sense and you can read that just fine, but you can't read in your native language where practically every vowel has the same sound every time, and where it gives you accent marks every time it breaks pronunciation rules?

You see, that's part of why we don't take Canada seriously. You can find Mexican food joints (authentic or otherwise) practically everywhere, and yet nobody has even heard of Canadian food. People who live in a desert managed to turn basic food staples into a bunch of things that pretty much anyone can enjoy, but what have Canadians given us? Glorified tree sap and gravy fries?
