Parkland shooting: Armed school resource officer ‘never went in’ to school during shooting NBC News Stoneman Douglas cop resigns; sheriff says he should have 'killed the killer' Sun Sentinel, local The reaction toward this cop surprises me, is it the standard procedure for cop all by himself to rush into a building and try to kill someone who is probably armed better than himself? If you're paid to be an armed security officer, I would assume that there is an expectation for you to actually act in a situation that would require the help of an armed security officer. It's not like anyone expected the guy to get in an OK Corral one-on-one shootout with the kid. Anyone who has a clue how police tactics work would never do that in the first place. When you have a target who is being anything but stealthy and not maintaining a defensive position, it's easier to get the drop on him. Alternatively, at the very least, making it known that there are guys with guns in pursuit of him could put a damper on a wanton killing spree. Offline

What if I told you...you can't stop school shootings. If someone wants to kill you they will find a way. And you just have to accept it.

School shooting are over. On a completely unrelated note, the wife of one of my co-workers is a teacher whose school is on lock-down for a bomb threat. It sounds like the novelty is too much to resist. Another good reason for us to talk about these things incessantly. Offline

The problem with violence is we are violent by nature...and there isn't anything you can do to stop that.
So you can save your gun laws for some other time. Cause a law wouldn't stop anyone. Offline

No one wants to hear the truth they want to say. If we just ban guns AR 15 violence will stop.

My question was more about the normal procedures in a situation like this and not what people expect. Cops here a taught to wait for reinforcements before taking action, the reaction from the Sheriff made it look like they are supposed to jump in without thinking. There's a lot of information he couldn't have at that time, like where the shooter is located and or even if there are multiple shooters. I'm pretty sure it was an inside job. The police killed those kids to get stricter gun laws... Offline

YouTube Video Placeholder Oregon legislature passes bill strengthening state's gun laws
The Hill said: The Oregon legislature passed a bill Thursday banning anyone with a domestic violence conviction from owning a firearm, according to KOIN 6 local news station. The state has banned those with domestic violence or stalking convictions from owning guns since 2015, but a loophole in the law allowed abusers who aren’t living with, married to or have children with the victim to have their guns, according to OregonLive. The state’s House of Representatives passed the bill 37-23 last week — one day after the mass shooting at a Florida high school. The state Senate approved it 16-13 on Thursday. Offline
