Just have an option on the flux outside (or inside if it only lets you toggle before doing any fights that session):

Option 1: Moglophone IIs are expended when entering fights, but you personally get NM clears, RP, and boosted amps

Option 2: Moglophone IIs are not expected when entering fights, but you get nothing.

Make it toggleable on an individual level so that if 1 person uses option 2 and the other 5 use option 1, the 5 people still get clear and RP. That way you can help out at no cost to yourself other than time.

SE could add a message upon queue so you don't forget and go in with the wrong option.

The overly strict job requirements hurt the ability to make a static and be able to carry a player or two with less than optimal jobs or skill. I've been playing with a couple of recently returned players who are very competent and getting back up to speed quite fast, but if you have taken significant breaks over the past year+, you're way behind on Ody. If you only have a couple jobs geared well for current endgame, you're a liability for a group.

Honestly, this. This is the killer for doing Shaol runs for a lot of players, including me. I came back to the game a couple years ago after taking a long break around the 95 cap in the abyssea days. I got my 3 favorite jobs geared up to 99, and I got them geared to the teeth. Best in slot everything? No, but close on some and definitely good enough to be a major contributor in Dynamis W3 runs, Omen, VD Ambuscade. I could do pretty much all of the relevant end game content with only my 3 jobs, and I was still trying to edge out little incremental gains here and there for them, rather than just devoting time to another job that I'm not interested in playing, and didn't have enough wardrobe space for anyways(I don't pay for wardrobe 3 or 4).

Then, Odyssey came out, and it was just A at the time. I was getting bored of the game at the time, so decided to take another multi month break to get rid of the burn out. I came back a little while after gaol was introduced, but I ran into EXACTLY these problems. I have limited play time, and because of that, also very little desire to level up a handful of other jobs and gear them, just for the ability to join in a boss killing rotation. That's on me I'm sure, I have always been the type to ignore metas and just focus on the things and jobs that I like in FFXI. But, I feel like a liability to any group trying to make a static, mainly because I don't have a huge arsenal of jobs ready to go.

Honestly, I really like the design choice of Gaol, it seems like an interesting concept. But, the requirement of having a ton of jobs leveled and well geared just makes it unjoinable for me. I've joined some PUG shouts for clears, and joined a few friends and LS members on boss runs, so I've gotten some clears and have the v0 for the relevant stuff for my jobs. But, there is just little chance that I'll ever get over the hump because I really don't feel motivated to level a bunch of jobs that I don't find entertaining to play.

Anyways, I can forsee them removing the locked job aspect of Gaol at some day, at least I hope they will. I don't see why someone can't just run warrior in 2 fights, for example, cover slashing and piercing. They've made other content less restrictive over time, and that could be something they'd push for in the future to open it up for more players.

First time poster ever here, lurk from time to time when I have free time at work. Felt compelled to post after reading this one because it echoes exactly the issues I've been having in game. As a result, I'm currently taking another break from the game because of lack of motivation. Just waiting to see what happens for the anniversary in a couple months. I'm honestly way more pessimistic than all the speculation I see on these forums, but let's see what happens!

I feel like you unintentionally hit the nail on the head for exactly why SE restrcted jobs in the first place with your comment about not getting why somebody can't unga bunga war to everything.
I'm not saying that SE is perfect or did a great job at implementing things, but I can guess exactly why they did it.

The other problem is standards. Players are looking for max rank augs/gear vs max rank Nms to clear it asap. To reuse SE's metaphor here. It's a marathon. Not a sprint. You get credit for anything over 10% damage. 2 jobs in the game are capable of soloing said damage on their own. This is nothing more than the same old disconnect between the devs and the playerbase. The devs want to be semi casual and in no big rush while the players will meta the *** out of mog gardens.
SE Isn't expecting you to jump into r25. They expect you to try r5 or 10 and get better at it as the rp grows or you get lucky with an actual win, but that's what the groups are going to shout for.

But they aren't. No one is shouting outside of RP Farming (and they are doing it 5% wipe method). Considering most new players or returnees just want clears and then head right back to making weapons/Min-maxing gear/gil farming - to work on the jobs they like.

People posting on here are the minority able to clear the content and work together with people to get it done. The vast majority don't even bother with that route after unlocks.

Unless they're selling the wins, no one in their right mind would shout for a 6th on any v15+ atonement3 or Bumba run. The fights are simply too reliant on coordination, and in that sense the advantage a static brings can never be matched by any caliber of fill-in. Add in the segment "risk" for some (in particular as those of us on track are using segments at a higher rate than ever right now), and a pickup is just not worth it, no matter their gear or experience.

Happens on Asura, and then of course full PUG groups as well.

Freshly Picked news

Coarse staff is the lockstyle weapon for ambuscade, the one with the skull on it

March v1 will be anticans

Mythic npc adjustment seems like they won't take the vigil weapon anymore

They are adding monsters to crawlers nest S in March, implies to be apex level

Wardrobe 5-8 confirmed. Same price as the others. No discount. Website for more info https://sqex.to/IRlbS link is broken but that's what they provided along with a qr code...

Moogle menu in mh is going to change so instead of a huge list its Storage> sub menu with all options (wardrobes/locker etc here) then pick which to open on this sub menu

Instead of moving items to your character inventory you will be able to directly move items between any inventory storage. When the side by side menu appears you can change the right menu to any you have access to. This is with a "switch" button that appears on the right by sort.

40 macro books now and 200 equip sets

There will now be sets a thru d to save to the server instead of just a and b from character select

Looks like we can backup macros and equip sets and config settings in the ffxi config tool now.

Recycle function - New method to recover discarded items. It is possible to recover the last 10 discarded items. If the amount is more than 10, the first will be excluded. The function is reset if you change zones or log out. Exclusions include loot that was lost from the treasure pool, temporary items, and link pearls/shell. Sounds like less work for GMs is all this is for.

Doll festival starts on the 2/25

Ffxiv crossover event returning on 3/22

That's about it, they are shooting the breeze now

Imgur gallery with screenshots of everything

Spoiler link because imgur likes showing nsfw stuff

So the average price of the wardrobe is about $1.73/per If you buy all 8.

Oh wow so it's 4 instead of 2, makes me happy and fearful at once. Happy that we have more inventory for quick-changing jobs, fearful if they haven't done anything to make inventory load faster.

This came to mind immediately and sparked a discussion in a Discord I'm in, though we initially thought of people abusing it without the intentions of creating gil (which will no doubt lead to an emergency maintenance).

-Adoulin Rings would be a definite no-go, since you have to trade them in.
-CoP ring possibly? If the first time you drop it it's just a game day wait.
-Divine Might earrings require zoning multiple times.
And so on...

Still think this is a great feature for a game with almost no GM support. A definite pleasant surprise.

Expect basically any and everything with a rare tag to be exploited.

People will drop, buy, and "recycle" Nyame THREE seconds after the maint ends. They will literally log out in Rabao so it's the first thing they can do.

Then, expect the item list that holds the dropped items to not remove the items when "recycled" so they drop a Rostam, then pull unlimited Rostams back from the drop list. (augmented, so the one pulled back is unaugmented and technically different so not removed from the list)

But that's childsplay, wait until they figure out how to store the items for a craft in the drop list and craft from the recycle menu.

They just need to treat it like an additional inventory bag, coming after wardrobe8 or w.e. Easy enough to extend their item search to it in that case with no special checks needed besides clearing it when you zone, at which point you can't recover it anyway. My long term expectations for them are ***, so certainly likely they don't do that, but it's not impossible they implement it in a way that doesn't open up any vulnerabilities.

Edit: Doing it that way would also be the least work for the client, since no new menus needed. You could just pull recycle open as a bag and move your stuff back. Even if you're allowed to manually put things in there, that wouldn't hurt anything. Populate automatically from dropped items, clear oldest item when you go past 10, and clear on zone. No reason it wouldn't be viable with our existing container UI. Wouldn't even need new packets or anything, just some server side logic to change the items when an item is dropped.

Right now on Asura I see about one shout a day that is essentially:

Someone should drop some disposable augmented item and confirm if they retain their augments after being recycled.

Asura:
Seen shouts pugging for a 5th and/or 6th for any tier for difficulty v0, v15, v20 (nobody really shouts for any other vXX)

Seen shouts building full from scratch for V20 T1s and T2s.

Seen a few shouts (more rare) where they split the cost to pay a host to take them in, the shout usually includes what each person is paying and it's usually one or two jobs they need.

As above mentioned, seen shouts where people ask for a person who can take them in, often times, though not always, with a financial incentive.

The shouts, in typical fashion, are always more common when the content is first released. This is where I usually join in. Often times in this time window someone from a previous group will ask the next evening if I'd like to join for another run. I often do.

Worth testing to see for sure, but if it's treated like a volatile item bag that disposes of its contents when you zone, then I doubt that would change. It would probably just cycle the same item and progress back to your regular inventory.
