I think the two hardest parts will be healers and we probably won't know which boss we're fighting next.
Heals sure you have WHM SCH RDM as options but since no SJs, we're limited on our -na and erase sources. So you might not want SCH in the MB party because that setup probably needs status removal the least and SMN actually has status removal. You could also do a pewpew PT RUN PUP COR RNG RDM +1 Might work nicely. 3 DDs that don't care too much about the lack of -nas. Bufftime is a bit higher because pup probably wants beast roll but should work fine as long as /ra isn't completely gimped. Lakshmi.Buukki

Sorry brain fart, DNC gets DW natively.

Because he forgot DNC has native DW

Though I guess you could still single-wield on DNC if you wanted to. The JP dude from this month ambu did it and it was still decent.
Is this the return of Airy Buckler Fencer builds?!

I guess it wouldn't be as potent since you aren't getting a fencer bonus anyways. I just misspoke on the DNC with DW.

If this is seriously how it's going to work for the new Odyssey, I can't believe my already very low expectations were NOT met.
This sounds horrible. Haha...
The dual boxers are crying... Lakshmi.Buukki

What about this sounds horrible? It's actually kind of creative. Everybody is always cheese new content within hours of it being released. "what's best way to key farm Odyssey". "can this Ambuscade be summoner burned". "find 3 buffers two Savage blade users and a tank and call it a day". Now they finally are going to release new content which forces people to play more creatively, and the people who will suffer most are the ones who have only ever done it one way before. That's a self created problem Dual boxers who didn't invest in multiple jobs or who used the same jobs across accounts will probably be the most annoyed, but for everyone else it should be interesting to say the least. Plus we don't really know what mechanics there will be, so having to be diverse with job selection might make it fun. Offline

It's too early to judge on a content that has not been released yet.. let's see :)

Taking away SJs literally limits creativity. Having access to SJs could maybe help certain players when people need to shuffle jobs around. SJs in general really help guide how some jobs play, such as a Brd subbing Nin for DPS or Whm for support/healing.
Certain jobs are extremely reliant upon their sub too. War comes to mind where they really rely upon /sam Hasso for JA haste. Drk to an extent when LR is down and not using Apoc. SJs are one of the best aspects of FFXI's job system; taking it away for content is not a good idea imo. Afaik, this is the first time where SJs won't be available at all for content? Like Salvage you could unlock it, Dyna you didn't have to go in SJless. I'm not saying it won't be interesting, because boy it will be. But I'm apprehensive about it, to say the least. Meh. Be realistic, the only thing sub provides is DW and Na's for notwhm
outside of supreme shenanigans like mew (yes you could list all the *** like jumps and berserk and sata and stun and on and on) It really ain't that big a deal. Lakshmi.Buukki

Well they did mention future plans is to add different NMs. Perhaps unlocking support jobs is something that can done then, will have to see. The part that makes me chuckle a little bit is the requirement that you need to have 3 99 jobs to participate. I imagine some 3-man PUGs would even struggle to accommodate this, because it's not just about having the job. You need to play it for a boss fight. No newer or less experienced players can participate in this, like at all. That's kind of weird that is made almost specifically for veteran players (unless the translation means something else) reminds me of how much i hated salvage before we outgeared it. just not fun to not be able to use all your gear and abilities you worked so hard for.

This is exactly the reason I hated salvage and have avoided it as much as possible throughout the years. I like that they are trying something new honestly, just changes things up.
Feels bad for WAR, it and BST are the only DPS without native delay reduction built into their abilities/traits.
I hope they have the foresight to include some porter moogles in the prep area because while it is going to be interesting to have jobs rely on their vanilla kits, it certainly makes a diverse pool of equipment that much more important. Time to dust off the old crossbow/status bolts on Thief...
I can see jobs like Blue Mage being relatively "subjobless-proof". As already mentioned, other jobs, notably 2-handers, are going to lose a lot of offensive presence without a sub. However, they are also taking a fair chunk of some jobs' defensive capabilities away and that should be equally impactful in many cases. I'd say I'm interested in seeing what kinds of new setups/builds are going to come out of this but the reality is probably that it's going to be metagamed and we'll have "Use ABC jobs for ___ NM so you can have XYZ left jobs for ___ NM" as the dominant strategy fairly quickly. Overall, I think treating jobs like a limited resource is a unique idea, and it's going to be fun for some groups to figure out things like which fights to use your 2 instances of Dia on. Offline

Wars should just fencer it up with Naegling or if you just can’t be bothered take a DNC to give you job haste...and then fencer anyways cause it will be better.

Quote: Rules When participating as a party, on top of the requirement of having 3 jobs at level 99, party members cannot select the same job at the same time. Nothing about subjobs, you just can't have 6 smns. You can still use the same jobs over and over, you just can't samejobburn. Cerberus.Shadowmeld

He's point out that people are talking about this like if person A uses WHM on the first boss, no one else can be WHM for the other two, when really the rules are saying just person A can't be whm again.

Eiryl wasn't responding to you, just posting the official translation which clears up the support job dilemma we were talking about. It's not a restriction according to this translation.
It doesn't say anything about needing to be in a party to enter this, which I'm assuming means you should be able to enter solo as long as you use different jobs for each NM? And I don't see that note from the JP translation about trusts, so I guess that means you can use the same ones for all 3 fights? Cerberus.Shadowmeld

Are you saying that this isn't the JP translation?
Any Trusts summoned cannot be summoned again until leaving the area Honestly, that would be the biggest obstacle to doing this solo. There's only like 3 useful trusts... :D |
