Hexed/cursed re-cursing travesty
Ragnarok.Camlann

Please, use the Dev1278 tag to find the thread called "What if you already removed Hex from Hexed gear" and complain about the new abjuration gear system. I have written down my opinion about this new system for re-cursing hexed/cursed gear. The HQs even require 1 Umbral Marrow per re-curse, AND your precious -1 has only a T1 chance of HQing again; this compared to the NQs that have a T0 tier of HQing.
Let's NOT reward people who put effort into getting HQs. People with several sets of HQ gear will need several umbral marrows alone, and for a slim chance of getting the new HQ stuff.

Welp, I guess I might be keeping my Spurrina Coif and Spurrina Gages as is - at least for now.

While I agree with you to a point, crafting is ridiculous in this game already and always has been. While I concur that this too is asinine, that's really no different than it was getting the -1 pieces in the first place. Really the people who had +1s already are the only ones who are still going to be easily obtaining HQs this time around too.
And for most of those pieces, the augments were what made them worthwhile anyhow; can the new pieces be augmented in the same fashion as the old?

It's not that Spurrina Gages even have a real use anymore now days, but it's still a rare and unique hexed item.
I'm going to have to take a good close hard look at the new augmenting system!

I'm keeping my 4/5 Khepri , I don't wanna risk turning them into NQs after all the effort/money that went into getting these ultra rare pieces.

I'm really displeased by the upgrade system. Many of the hexed -1 items still fetch relatively high prices, making them ingredients for a synth that's T1 at best makes little sense at this stage of the game's life. Uncursed HQ, be it hexed or cursed, should guarantee you an HQ of the new items.

I love it. Gives you something to actually work for.
Think of them feels if you pop out a 119 -1 hexed. What else are you gonna do for the rest of the game?

I was honestly expecting a system closer to how they did the Relic +2/109 JSE stuff; having a better version of the base item gives you a smoother, easier path to the higher end stuff (though for things like hexed -1s, it would have had to be a huge drop in difficulty to justify). All of this for pieces that are nice, but for the most part aren't gigantic upgrades over existing high-end options (though the jury is out on augments).
I'm sort of baffled by this. Was it Bring Your Tanaka To Work Day?

Apparently.

Because at this stage of the game it's a worthwhile endeavor to slave away for a .05% increase in something.

The process seems unusually punitive to those who achieved the milestone of getting rare -1s. Not even going to get into how silly the idea of set bonuses reserved for HQs is

Yes, things like the Iaso bliaut.
All of the items are obtained in Prov, NOONE DOES PROV!!

Which, of all the HQs to get, my second account got out of the goblin box. -.-;
My wife got a Kheper Jacket on her main though, so that's cool.

Think of them feels if you pop out a 119 -1 hexed. "Thank ***, now I can stop throwing away time/gil on this damn thing."
That's assuming people bother to try in the first place, which most likely will not. People are already getting ready to pack it up towards the end of the year, outdated "effort":reward mechanics make less sense than ever. People simply don't care enough.

Well, okay that's fine. So it's not for everyone. But like...isn't just not doing it an option? Why does it need to be nerfed down?
Why does everyone NEED to have that gear? Is it because it's the end of the game and we're all just having fun? Well then why both with HQ/NQ, why not slap 999s on everything and we can have all the fun we want.
Obviously to each their own, but for me this isn't something I'm going to work toward. It's something I'm gonna roll the dice on occasionally, and if I don't HQ, oh well, I wasted probably 30 minutes of prep time for a batch of synths. If I do HQ? It'll probably be one of the more memorable moments for me in this game. I still remember my first T0 dusk gloves +1 from a decade ago.
My point is that I don't really think we need to scale stuff down for everyone. If people don't want to do it, don't do it. Do what it is that you enjoy. People keep bringing up that there is only so much time left in the game, ok so don't spend that worrying about gear that you deem too much effort? Does anyone here do vagary regularly for Tartarus Mail? Are you writing petitions about how it's unfair that we don't all have wings? Is it ruining your gaming experience by not having them?
Forgive me if I'm not going with the tone of this thread, but when I read complaints like this and see how, honestly, outraged people are about this stuff all I can do is shake my head.
I really, really, really want this gear. I think it'd be a great way to go out of the game. I won't get it, I'm not that lucky/rich. But I'm going to enjoy trying for it myself a lot more than I'd enjoy it being handed to me.

In the old FFXI system and many other MMOs you are right, HQ gear was a luxury that was not needed. Having a HQ Ebody wasn't mandatory it was just really cool. This was because the NQ Ebody was still absolutely amazing and getting it was a huge accomplishment. Most of these pieces as NQs aren't worth ever touching let alone calling an accomplishment. In this case it's HQ or nothing, and the HQing system seems atrocious.
Also having a few rare items is okay, like Tartarus Mail and the weapons from Escha. Having 2/3rds of the updates items be a huge pain in the *** to get is just terrible game design. This was even one of their big selling points for this patch, use your old abjs and hexed in new content! In the end your old ABJs and Hexed are either already bad, or require an expensive and rare HQing system to make barely better than other options.

There's some mid-ground between something being gated behind a *** Bayesian subset of probabilities and something being "handed out".

These are good points, but don't you think the rabble is a bit premature? We have literally zero data on the augments. Sure, we have past data to draw from and most of it says we're heading for a disappointment. But isn't it, at this stage in the game where they keep consistently throwing curveballs, a possibility that the augments on the HQ will ***circles around the NQ to the point that they're effectively two different pieces of gear?
I suppose if the answer to that question is "it's still stupid" then fine, to each their own.

The only thing I think is dumb is locking set bonuses behind the hq. Otherwise I'm fine with the system.

I was thinking of coming back to the game to play around with the new gear but the new upgrade system is horrible.
I rather farm chapters and Escha materials than getting more umbral marrows and downgrading your old gear.
Umbral Marrows, a dynamis item, has no relation to hexed or cursed gear. People already suffer enough to upgrade their relic weapons.
Desynthesizing your HQ gear to get a chance of a new HQ 119 gear is like taking apart your current car to have a chance to get to the newest model except the model will be discontinued that year. The upgrade progression doesn't make sense.
This is a new stupid upgrade system that keeps players from coming back and pisses off the current player base. This isn't 10 years ago where gear lasted for years. New gear now has a shelf life of 1-3 months.

Well then why both with HQ/NQ, why not slap 999s on everything and we can have all the fun we want. You're not that stupid. Free wins are not fun, not for any meaningful period of time. Neither is seeing gear gated behind an arbitrary gil sink that could easily rise into the hundred(s) million range for a single piece of gear. Making that a central feature of a penultimate or frankly any update is simply not good design, and I'd have said as much at any point in the game's lifespan. It just makes even less sense now given that everything else they're doing is, by all appearances, shifting the game towards a more streamlined experience.
The barrier here is such that while people could choose to work towards it, many will choose not to or only pursue a handful of relatively low-cost items. SE could've gone with a better system that, while still requiring significant investment, would have attracted positive attention from a greater portion of the populace and that would've been completely fine. Instead we got a gil sink.
tl;dr:
There's some mid-ground between something being gated behind a *** Bayesian subset of probabilities and something being "handed out". ^
We also see gear acquisition in very different ways. Obtaining gear means something to you. To me, it's simply a means to an end. I get no satisfaction out of rolling the dice. I don't remember getting the gear, I remember what I do with that gear. That's why I came back, even if I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to the game anymore. It's the last chance to see what I can do in XI.

Why do people think that downgrading is the only possibility? Sure, it's there if you already have the uncursed item, but wouldn't it make more sense just to make a new one from scratch? HQs should for news cursed items happen at T1.
I doubt SE expects many people to take the downgrade route, I figure they expect the market to start flooding with new synths, and that's what they're balancing against.

That was obviously hyperbole >.>
And nothing says that you have to have the HQ version of the new cursed gear. Besides the set bonuses for all you know there is only a minor difference between the HQ and NQ. The gear that already exists in the game (alluvion skirmish) which is incredibly easy to get and augment makes for killing everything in this game piss easy. So the only thing that this new ultra cursed gear is for really is to say "hey, look at me". There should be no complaints.

Skjalf will be keeping old pieces because they were so hard to make / augment. Also the stats are different between old and new pieces. For example there is no movement speed for the white mage hexed feet upgrade piece. This stat could be one of the augment stats that you can add - but no idea for sure.
:S
