E.g. A person buys a DVD opens it, doesn't like it, tries to return it, but it is aginst public policy to refund money. With the stories logic that means they are stealing the customers money.

Not quite. Since the person purchased this DVD from the store/person/what have you, the transaction would be considered complete. The man in the story never completed his albeit illegal transaction, and thus was allowed to exercise his law given right to use deadly force to retrieve the money that was "stolen" from him.

Man pays an escort, a person hired to provide companionship, or be a piece of eyecandy out in public according to the description, which she did. This is the completed state of the transaction in the escort business.

The money, which had exchanged hands, without initial reports to the police of theft (which can be considered a false report, and is illegal) was no longer his property.

He was just pissed he didn't get sex from another adult who didn't consent to it. Shot her in the neck, leaving her in critical condition for months before she died.

Me and 7 friends did a cross country drive from L.A to Miami. We spent an additional $ 3.5k on lodging and fuel, lost 72 hours all to avoid Texas and Tennessee.

8 brown/wheetish skinned guys driving sports cars through Texas and TE sounded like the quickest way to end up dead.

Someone suggested we bleach our Hair blond and put on Cowboy hats, chew tobacco, to avoid arousing suspicion among the natives.
Yeah a brown person in Texas? We don't allow that.

I mean, aside from having a higher percentage of black people than your own home state, a higher percentage of hispanics than your own home state, and the city with the highest raw number of Asians in America, yeah, we don't allow that.

I.e., you and mister I'm-gonna-list-republicans-I-hate-bc-daddy-didn't-love-me need to learn some real life facts and not just go by what your propagandists tell you.

Whelp, this is now a "anti-republicans(and something else vague thrown in thar) whut!?!" thread.

Totally not how someone who didnt understand what an escort was got away with murder. Nope. Not.At.All.Periods.

And there are numerous states with laws that allow deadly force to protect property, and the government wasn't giving the stamp of approval for his behavior, but it was a MURDER trial, and you only need to establish that he was acting in his legal right to get an acquittal. I bet lots of ho's get shot in L.A.

He isn't talking about Texas, he is talking about people's PERCEPTIONS of Texas.

I wonder why they have those perceptions?

LOL! Why would you even need to travel through Tennessee to go from Miami to LA? Wouldn't you just be following I-10 the entire way through TX? Congratulations! You wasted a lot of money, a lot of gas, and a learning experience you are desperately in need of if you think this...

This and the flag can easily lead us to a very, very hilarious stereotype...

If this is the case, Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio thank you. I'm sure Nashville is wiping its brow in relief also.

Just saying...

Just because you don't like the results of one ruling in one case doesn't mean that the state and, by extension, their citizens mentally disabled.

Because by your reasoning, I have just as much right and reason to call your state, and also by extension, you mentally disabled.

Just remember, just because you don't like an answer doesn't mean that your answer is correct either...

but I do agree, he did get off by a technicality...

Because people like to live with their prejudices, even especially the so-called "tolerant" left. I cringe when I see people portray people from Louisiana or Texas or other Southern state in Hollywood or some other medium. Funny how we are supposed to embrace all these other cultures, but your own fellow Americans whom you don't need a passport or more than a weekend to go see first-hand, you inevitably get it wrong.

And for the record, the idea that someone in California would laugh at some perceived mental disability of another state is absurd on its face.

There is no point in making it into a political rant.

People on both sides of the political line get the actuality of Texas wrong. Then again, people on both sides of the political line get the actuality of Texas near correct. And there is also people IN Texas who are on both sides of the political line. For example, Austin is about as liberal as Hollywood. Rest of the state, middle of the road and towards the right.

Making this as a liberal-bashing because you don't agree with them, you are just as bad as the liberals who do the same to conservatives.

That is the true wrong with today's society in the US. Everyone believes that their viewpoints are the absolute truth, but yet, very few people actually see things for what they are.

We need conservatives as much as we need liberals. Very little, but still need them.

In order to learn to accept things as what they are, first learn that not everyone is going to agree with you. In fact, nobody will agree with you at all. Everyone has their own concept of reality. Better that you find that out now than later.

Shoot I left that town and never looked back lol... I did hear he was drunk in my backyard with Bruce Willis and Dennis Quaid in the 80's, and I got my hair cut once with his wife. Yep, I'm special lol

Come to think of it, that's REALLY long for a celebrity to stay married... about 25 years and counting.

I'm not a FFXI player who dabbles in politics, I am a political person who dabbles in FFXI. I was not the one who introduced the left-vs-right concept in this thread, and in fact that was probably a fair assessment of the spirit of the OP. I don't need lecturing about political realities or dime store philosophy. I have my beliefs and they are well-founded. I can disagree with people who intellectually come to different conclusions and we can learn from each other. Dealing with people who serve as parrots repeating nonsense is a different issue, and yes, that is most of what gets said about the South, including Texas.

Can we just fast forward this thread to the point where we all link arms and slur-sing our way through David Allan Coe songs, either ironically or just for the pure fun of it, to scare everyone away? Tell me when we reach that part. That's always the best!

It wasn't a direct diatribe against you personally. I understand your viewpoints, although I have only seen you in this thread (you look to be a poster who speaks their mind a lot, which is kindof like the old me before I left FFXI a few years ago. I grew up since then and learned the best way to present an argument is not to be a totalitarian when it comes to arguments).

I believe that compromise and listening is a two-way street. In order for you to get people to listen to you, you must yourself listen to people. And know your audience. Most posters on this website are children between the ages of 13 to 25. Most of them are still in this dreamland of what liberal ideas promises, but never produces.

If you really want to reach out to those people, then you have to structure your argument that shows a valid viewpoint instead of absolution. Notice that my speech to you personally is a lot different than before, and that is because I respect your viewpoint and understand that your mind works differently than others on this forum.

But I also believe that you need to lighten up. This isn't an hardcore Beltway forum. This is a game forum. Most, if not all viewpoints on politics are limited to what they listen to from mainstream media. Until they realize that they are just listening to propaganda (on ALL media outlets, not just mainstream) and base their viewpoints off of how one reads behind the lines, then you have to treat them as children who only likes flashing things.

Texas isn't so bad, every state has their own obscure laws (in NY it is illegal to spit on the sidewalk). And every state has its loonies. TX has beautiful women, damn good food, people are friendly and its where all the jobs are. TX itself has a higher GDP than Australia and Canada, in fact if TX was its own country, it'd have the 13th best economy in the world.
