The day I learned of course and off course isnt the same thing.
Also when we did proto-ultima and the whole alliance wiped and my last woman standing rdm/whm nuked it to oblivion \o/
Not so fun story...when that damned rdm pimphat finally dropped...leader "its vi's turn to lot" ~the ninja strikes again~ lotted by a fellow ls member from beneath my bloody nose.

Ah Red mage Gear drama...
XD I miss the old 75 dynamis days when 1 red mage relic part dropped and you just saw like 20 red mages fight and pray to win a lot...

If it makes you feel better, I once knew a girl who i trusted and saw as a friend, when i was camping my yinyang robe askt her if she could come help me and in return i would help her on one of her own. And got backstabbed... she ended up coming with her own crew got the claim and the drop... when i askt her "why?" i got a nice "Well i have been trying for 6months" tell back, Meanwhile i stood in the zone for 2 days for nothing lol (and no she never camped for it) the best part was... 1 of her friends there owned a Pet LS and they used that ToD for months... . I ended up getting it a year later thanks to my LS back then...

Dynamis!

Never forgot Dynamis, ever. I'm talking about 75 days.

The Windurst pull of death comes to mind !
Gather Together @ The Death House!

Hug the wall!

One day I was taking our linkshell through Dynamis-Windurst. As the master recruiter of my linkshell, I would bring in new recruits. We acquired a new Dark Knight (don't want to mention his name), and I told him that he really needed to pay attention and do what everyone else does in Windurst. He had never done Dynamis before.

We got to Death House. Bearing in mind, I had told this guy at least half a dozen times about Death House. So Misart was all like .. DEATH HOUSE DONT AGGRO IT HUG THE WALL! Which was tradition by that point. He had afk'd further down, and clearly not seen this message. Everyone else got through, but then I looked back over, and saw this dark knight run right in front of the Death House ..

And he aggroed the full thing. And I think he was so embarrassed by it, he decided to leave the linkshell. He killed our run that day, but it was pretty amusing to some of our members. We were usually very, very good at not aggroing that thing.

A week of camping Serket to get the ring for my WHM.

Also Roc for the staff, don't remember how long that took, but I remember camping those HNMs for awhile.

Level capped boss fights. Locked areas until you completed certain chapters. The alien feel of Al'Taieu. The struggle to escort everyone through the final missions. Finally getting the Rajas Ring and enjoying the end of the best storyline in FFXI.

I remember taking my first job RDM (in full beetle gear) to 21 without doing the subjob quest. Someone asked if I had any parties since, and I said no. They quickly advised me to complete the subjob quest and so I did.

I didn't have a lot gil at the time to begin with so imagine a level 30 RDM in full beetle gear. Someone felt sorry for me and bought me mage gear. Lol. I was a little upset, come to think of it, because of the fact that someone was telling me how to play the job. But of course, it was my first job and the first couple of months playing so what did I know.

That same person then asked me if I wanted to go to Jeuno. I didn't even know where that was. He ran with me along with a few other noobs across the great plains of Valkurm Dunes to the Konst. Highlands, thru the Pash. Marshlands, to the Rolaberry Fields to finally Jeuno.

I had never seen so many people online at the time gathered in one place. And so began the real trek of this FFXI character...

Before I go and have some much needed sleep, I was thinking about the stories that we have lived through in this game. I was talking to someone just now, and he reminded me of my old mentor Seiya. The guy was legendary, and I would like to share that story sometime, but what I am more interested in, is to hear if other people have stories to tell.

In this game, specially nowadays, it is so easy to get into the grind of accomplishing our latest goal, that we tend to be anti-social. Back in the older days of FFXI, it was very commonplace for people to just sit around and chat. It was also common to make friends in EXP parties, and you would share your life with them. The older times, specially for me, had people who were a lot more willing to talk and be friendly with each other. They would go out and help somebody just to make them happy, and expect nothing in return, they would invite you into their linkshell and you would make more friends. I have a lot of stories I can tell from my time in FFXI, and in this roleplaying game, it is pretty unreal just how much our characters, and ourselves, have been through.

Have you experienced moments that made you laugh uncontrollably?
What about those anxious times? What about the moments you wish you could forget?
How about the times were you cried? Are you brave enough to admit that you may have shed a tear for a fellow player in the game?

I am sure, that after over ten years of Final Fantasy XI, there have been some pretty legendary stories. Will you share them? And will you respect those people who decide to share? After all, this is just a game, we all know it isn't real, but does it hurt to get sucked into it, even for a brief time? I would love to read some real FFXI stories. The longer and more detailed the better!
If someone "reminded" you of your mentor, he wasn't that legendary.

All my feels about FFXI:

Started playing when I was in middle school. It was my first mmo and I didn't know the controls very well. Eventually after reading the user manual and experimenting, I figured out how to move and navigate some of the streets in San d'Oria. Eventually I met a nice elvaan and his taru brother and they showed me around, invited me to their linkshell and even taught me how to fight. When we were out in the forest hunting rabbits and various bugs, strangers would run by examining me. I didn't know what exactly that meant at the time and took offense and began slapping them. Later on I wanted to explore the world. I asked for an escort to Bastok and I came across the area where many people would camp leaping lizzy. Time moved on and I slowly began leveling my warrior. Fighting lizards and flys in the dunes outside selbina, protecting fishers on the boat to mhaura and going to various linkshell meetups for eco warrior. Eventually the linkshell fell apart as WoW came onto the market. I traveled aimlessly across the lands and eventually ended up in jeuno. I was a poor adventurer and didn't have a 'job' to make money. I took up the mantles of being a whitemage and quickly leveled the job. I whored myself out on the steps by the moghouse district in lower jeuno, giving away teleports for 400g a person. I was crazy excited when someone would offer 1000g. I continued the profession and trained under maat and investigated the stories of the zilart. Later I spent some time away and meditated deep within the forests of zi'tah. I had a blade forged for me when I became a samurai. I later joined a group of people who would challenge the gods. We fought tirelessly day and night claiming the necessary items to awake the gods; we slayed them one after another. We continued for many months, growing stronger after each kill. At times I would be a samurai and others I would be the white mage, healing allies from afar. Time went on and people were satisfied and decided to retire from the life. The weird disturbance from promathia didn't catch my attention. I wondered the landscapes searching for purpose and then! A new trade route was opened to the land of Aht Urhgan. I boarded the next ship to the far off lands in hopes for new adventure. After a few days of arriving, I wondered the streets. I fell into the slums. The poor citizens of the nation being sacrificed daily/weekly due to murderous beastmen besieges. I was later whisked away into a pirate group and learned how to use a hexagun and magical cards. I swore my allegiance against the imperial blue mages and fought tooth and nail against them at every turn. Undercover I participated in various imperial operations to assault beastmen territories and discover ancient ruins. I later took my new found arsenal and journeyed back across the ocean. I joined a new team of people and sought to take down dragons across the land. It also became what some would say a commute. I'd warp to aht urhgan for mission orders by day and spend my nights sleeping in my home on San d'Oria. One day on a business trip to Bastok I stumbled upon a cave. Fighting through large insects and beastmen turtles I became lost. Losing my sanity I ran around, often walking into walls. I was later rescued by a strange individual in black armor. What felt like being half dead I followed his orders. Slaying innocent creatures with an overly large sword. I grew stronger but became colder. I casted away what morals and sense of light was but I knew that the world needed justice. I traveled the world in the pursuit of justice, ridding evil from wherever it may be. I learned dark magicks and let it feast upon my soul as I feasted upon others. I bloodlusted and resorted into a violent rage, often endangering myself and others. I ended up accidentally killing a friend. He could have been saved possibly but the enemy's charm effects were too strong and he needed to be stopped.
Then suddenly a timeshift occurred in the world. Strange alien mouths appeared across the world. We could travel back in time. Almost as fast as we could travel back in time, we could travel forward to an unknown alternate dimension. I accompanied old friends and we began our exploration into the strange lands. The crimson sky was a grim reminder of what the future may be like. We fought effortlessly day and night, slaying monster after monster. We acquired new found armor and weapons and of course power. However the years of fighting, the old wounds were settling in. I became tired and couldn't move forward with my adventures. Then a spike in curiosity occurred. Meeting up with a small team, we rediscovered old areas back in the undersea ruins. We sought to acquire lost relics of legends past. We explored and treasure hunted. It was great fun. Then suddenly a call was made. A call of new territory waiting to be conquered in the lands of Adoulin. I journeyed over with my companion. It was a vicious struggle at first. The monsters were immensely powerful but we prevailed. The pioneer town we stayed at was nice and pretty at night however I knew the end was near. Only the elite were chosen to explore the frontier so I opted to stay on my private beach front property. I would occasionally travel outside the city walls but the fights were a struggle. After gaining experience and fighting many new adversaries of old and new my armor was stained and battle scarred, my greatsword was nothing more than a broken blade. I gave away the majority of my possessions and soon collapsed on a grassy field. The lifetime of fun and achievements and hardships fleeted across my mind. Perhaps one day I'll continue the adventure but for now I shall rest.

Qom was one of the KnightsofPegasus, one of the last students of Seiya. Chevalios was his leader, but Chev explained to Qom and other Pegasus members that myself, Quilly and others from Marleys/Lagunas were their "seniors", so Qom was told about the story, and whenever he saw me he would /tell me and ask how I was.

He looked up to me kind of like I used to look up to Seiya. He saw me as a legend because of the stories he was told. He was happy to send me messages over PoL as well. Even after he switched servers he kept in contact. I wondered why I hadn't heard from Qom in a while. Now I feel bad because I didn't get to play with Qom in anything meaningful; I did give him advice when he needed it though.

He was such a nice person. Never sensed he had any issues with life, and just felt like a free spirit, so that's how I'll remember Qom. He had a char called Qomkidsized as well? That was the char he usually /tell me from.

First, I have a terrific memory for names, and player names.
I joined FFXI in 2006 or 7 and had no help but a friend with a lv15 blm/. We got mnk and blm up to 30, with subjobs, and ran for Jeuno.

Invisible (remember the days when it sucked?) wore on him at a bad time and he got agro. Since I was hume mnk, I had more hp and survivability than a taru blm, smacked it, and ran for the zone.
I didn't make it, I died while zoning. About 30 seconds later, a whm comes through on her chocobo and sees me dead and gets off, raises me, and then runs off to Jeuno.

5 or 6 years later, I ended up in the same egls as that whm and never said a word. I quit in 2013 and she quit sometime while I was gone.

I came back for RoV in November and to maybe stick around. I chose to stick around. One night, that white mage logs on, and finally I spoke up, "You probably don't remember but you were the whm who raised me when I died on my first run to Jeuno."
Her response, while I was helping her kill those demons for RoV mission was "What a poetic thing, that the person I helped in the beginning would be the person to help me in the end.".

Another one, and then I'll stop.

In 2007, I got access to sky. I was a fresh PLD/NIN. My haste/fast cast consited of Walahra Turban and Swift belt. I was in AF.

Our LS at that point was a lot of fresh sky people. Occasionally a friend from a real EGLS came and powernuked, but it was mostly honest progression.

First day: I'm going to tank with a nin co-tank. Ninja pops Byakko without shadows, dies right off the bat. I solo tanked that cat, sweating bullets for the 6~ minutes it took the Nin to unweak and catch up to my enmity (sata line). We defeated the cat and moved on.

Now, I know today about where most LSs considered Byakko in 2007 and I'm not arguing that, but the reason this story sticks with me is--

After the cat dies, my PLD mentor (on Samurai that day) sends me a tell "Dude, you're the best ****ing PLD I've ever seen.".

At the time, I basically just won the Academy Award for Best Paladin and the World Series (where Nidhogg sits on home plate).

Unrelated: I used to have the best ss. Byakko triple-attacked me one day and I parried all three and got a 0.5 from each.

Was in a Kaggen run on BRD, had a pretty stubborn DRK in my party. Was giving my party double Marches but he was insistent on double Minuet. Mind you, he was DRK/SCH, so attention was brought to that. His explanation was that it was for Viruna/Poisona etc.

When I had enough of him trying to tell me how to BRD (not like he was party lead or anything, just some DRK that didn't have a clue what he was doing) I made it an effort to give him Pianissimo Ballads. Not just once, every time I rebuffed, I went out of my way to do this.

He didn't say a word the rest of the run.

Lol, Presidentobama can't let go of his SCH, he has to sub it when he plays melee jobs...not that he'd play his SCH main as he should >.>
