I've been trying out quietus a bit, it doesn't seem as bad as people make it out to be.
It really sucks that it basically has no TP scaling, but if you aren't pdif capped the defense ignore(does it scale with tp like 1500 tp = 15%?) is pretty noticable.
The damage numbers between cross reaper and quietus don't seem that far apart from what I've seen. It has nice SC properties letting you solo darkness and open/close it so that's pretty great. Isn't closing or opening a level3 SC always going to provide better results(when applicable) than anything else as long as the WS isn't like..50% weaker? Without quietus scythe level3 skillchain options are pretty awful unless you have an apoc too!
Is this WS really as bad as people make it out to be, or is it just the fact it has no actual TP scaling and for zerg situations it's better to use cross reaper(since you'll prob be pdif capped)? It seems situationally useful and something you should have unlocked simply for it's ability to do level3 SC's.
Would like to hear from some people who have tried it in higher in content!

Is it possible to get an updated drk guide? i'm sure its not just me that there is other people who have trouble combing through the guides specially when you want to see what works best for different tiers of gear sets based on accessibility, wealth, skill, competent groups, etc
By Quetzacoatl 2016-11-14 17:16:18
Wow, it's nice to see my guide still up and running, after disappearing for nearly three years. I was just checking my character info because my closest buddy wanted me to get him some mats over the free login campaign.
I'm willing to transfer the guide to someone who is able to keep it updated. Hit me up with a PM if anyone is interested.

Hi! Quietus isn't as bad as some might have you believe. Since it is a Single-hit the damage tends to be consistent (That's taking into account you don't miss equaling 0 damage) Yes, the no scaling fTP can be a let down for some but the Ignores Defense more or less makes up for it in lower content or uncapped pDIF situations. I have no evidence the Ignores Defense actually scales with TP so I'll leave that up to someone else to figure out.
In content 135+ where you're going to have GEO/BRD/COR buffs, Quietus isn't quite as useful I've found. However, Cross Reaper is HIGHLY dependent on buffs to begin with so your damage can and will be all over the spectrum.
Personally I enjoy using both. Gear for each the best you can and have at it I say. ^.^)--b

REAL IMPORTANT QUESTION HERE
Alright, so apparently the Node Format can be edited by everyone and anyone, or it can also be limited to a specific few collaborators. With that, everyone can refer to the node format for an updated version of this guide.

I suppose the second option would be my vote. :/

Definitely collaborators only. If everyone can edit it then it'll be way too easy for troublemakers, ignorant people, or whatever other personality trait is troublesome in said instance to cause headaches concerning the maintenance of the guide. I'd rather vote for who should be the collaborator(s) and trust it in their care.

I'm sure there will be a few who are up to the task.

By the way, I personally apologize for letting this guide get all dusty. Spontaneous life changes, frustration with my GPU crashing in Dynamis Dreamlands over what seems like an incurable error, etc. And I'm especially sorry it had to take so long for me to get back to looking at this.
My close buddy from my younger days has been playing again, and I kinda want to see what all has been changed. It'll be for fun though, not going to worry about endgame stuff. So yeah, you can thank him for bringing my attention to this. :p

I don't blame you at all. It is fine to have a life outside of ffxi. I try to go back and forth all the time! It's just hard when you come back from a hiatus and you have to comb through like 10 pages and still may not get half of what the potential of varying sets for the job for noobie and pros alike.

Are we voting on who our collaborators are? I'd like to, if possible. I want to also make sure I can fit the node format into the OP and trim out the rest as well. ("B-but my +'s! Q_Q")
edit: one moment, testing the node on OP

Node Format officially works in the OP!
Just takes a few hefty seconds for it to fully load. Following front page posts have been trimmed down and edited to redirect over to correlating sections in the OP.
In the meantime, feel free to offer suggestions for node collaborators!

So, I've been looking at all these new pieces of gear since Adoulin was in its development...hot damn, the overwhelming amount of new gear with amped-up stats is incredible. Snagged an NQ Malfeasance to try out, but I haven't gotten around to earning Job Points yet to be able to use it. That's what two years of no FFXI does to me, I guess. >.>;
Most of my current sets are from the Delve-Adoulin Era, so there seems to be a bunch of updating in order. I'll have to look back further into the thread to see what everyone's working with currently.
Also, I'd like to remind that Collaborator positions are still available for guide updates!
Edit: Oh, and I give thanks to Anna Ruthven for keeping the peace in my absence. I'm not pointing any fingers, but let's not have any hard feelings when debate arises. I want this guide to be as inclusive and encouraging as it can be, for everyone from fresh meat to dedicated wraiths like myself to discuss gear sets and strategies. We're all on the same team here.

Brand new returning players can use the JSE weapons from Oboro.
https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Cronus
They aren't the best by far, but their cheap and get so much accuracy that it'll act as a bridge while the player acquires the better gear from Escha / ect.
Eventually players can get access to these weapons and toss a bunch of stones for some pretty crazy nice augments.
https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Obschine
https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Zulfiqar
And then you have the REMA's which are great but also situational on which one is best for which content.

SO noobing it up here, but I never played during the Skirmish era. I had to learn a few spells this weekend and got some gear, and can get any others I want too from trade in.
Is ANY of it actually useful for drk? I dont care about stepping stone gear as I have access to any endgame gear already. I just want to know if anything is still BiS for w/e reason (spells,ws,tp,JA, etc). I noticed you can get some drain potency on some pieces but I am unsure if say +7 on yurim body is going to outdo carmine body for example. Also that its possible to get 10 stp hands for drk from this which may open up better multi-attack options at low acc needs, etc.

Hmm a question I'm getting a lot by newbie DRK's and WAR's asking is NQ Argosy vs Valorous vs Odyssean for WS gear, specifically Resolution. Comments / idea's / suggestions? Where is the cut off point on what would make a piece of gear A better then gear B?

Comparing the Valorous and NQ Argosy sets, piece by piece I got:
Valorous Mask requires minimum +12 STR, +19 Accuracy, +40 Attack, and +5 STP or DA to match Argosy Celeta.
Valorous Mail requires minimum +15 STR, +24 Accuracy, +40 Attack, and either +2 DA or +3 STP to match Argosy Hauberk.
Valorous Mitts requires minimum +15 STR, +14 Accuracy, +40 Attack, and +5 STP or DA to match Argosy Mufflers.
Valorous hose requires minimum +14 STR, +38 Accuracy, +39 Attack, and +2 DA or STP to match Argosy Breeches.
Valorous greaves requires +15 STR, +21 Accuracy, +32 Attack (additional STP or DA would be superior) to match Argosy Sollerets.
I'll let someone else do the Odyssean set if they so please...
In summary: The STR difference between Valorous and Argosy is noticeable but even with a MAX Attack augment you won't catch up to Argosy set's attack boost...

That's NQ right? I know HQ Argosy is godlike for Resolution but this is from a lot of new / returning players trying to gear up WAR/DRK to do stuff with.
By Sylph.Brahmsz 2016-11-20 11:09:34
I did those calculations this morning before breakfast. Came back after I ate and double checked and edited. You can make up for the difference in the STR/Accuracy/DA/STP departments reasonably with enough stones. The Attack department however comes close but in Head/Body/Hands slots NQ Argosy has a higher Attack stat over all.
It's not a huge difference mind you, but the fact still remains that you need close to a +40 attack augment on Valorous to catch up for Resolution use. The Accuracy difference kind of surprised me but Argosy isn't exactly the most Accurate set to begin with... The Reisenjima Augment system being what it is, your mileage may vary on how many stones you require to get those kinds of stats.
PS: I keep wanting to type Valour instead of Valor for some reason. lol
By RolandJ 2016-11-20 11:20:53
Well, I just created a page for the Valorous Attire Set after reading this and noticing there wasn't an attire-set page for it created yet. I like the attire-set pages very much for the all-in-one convenience that they offer while researching gear options.
https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Valorous_Attire_Set
I don't feel like making a page for the Odyssean Attire Set at he moment. Perhaps someone else could step up and make that one? You can just copy and paste the code I used and edit in the Odyssean set's information. Check the original Valorous Attire Set page version for a readable code format that I archived.

I use 4/5 Val and the Ody legs, as they are better suited all pre augments of course

I think it will actually be easier to obtain NQ argosy (and cheaper) than trying to farm all valorous. Mostly on the aspect of most people don't like messing with golden kist AND the random augment system is a slot machine that never pays out.
That being said, I think Valorous can possibly beat NQ argosy, not HQ since HQ brings massive str and brings DA to the table.

No you can skip it entirely with the gear options we have now.
