I've noticed quite a few things are named after bears in FFXI.
A location in Uleguerand. A weaponskill used by Maat. An orcish clan. A series of h2h weapons (Ursine) from mog trials. And Galkas, lots of galkas, I think more than after any other animal (High Bear, Heavy Bear, Hunting Bear, Standing Bear).
Now, did anyone ever _see_ bears in FFXI? Or anything that you could construe as a proxy (well... apart from Galkas)? My idea is that bears are maybe native to Razhowa (dare you, SE, to forget adding them in your 2014 "Conquerors of the North" expansion!) and that the orcs named their clan after this local animal as well as gave the name to the Bearclaw Pinnacle as they migrated through Uleguerand. And perhaps Maat actually travelled to Razhowa at some point where his WS did just what it was named after - one-shot bears. Anyways, anyone have an alternate explanation? Criticism? Random thoughts (not too random)?
