Iridal and Thunder staves will be the same outside of day/weather bonus, in which case the Iridescence attribute will swing things in favor of Iridal.
I would still go for the Iridal (or Chatoyant) due to them working for other elements as well.
They aren't exactly the same even outside of the weather bonus, given that Chatoyant has some extra INT on it.

Has anyone bothered to look at building a BLU DD for Req spam on some of those NMs? After the upcoming 1H update it should be a very viable DD. Many of the NM's have "f*ck you" type damage resistances that make FS MNK Mura SAM popular, yet BLU has a WS that completely ignores those resistances. Just something me and the LS were discussing.

Here's my Foret Accuracy setup (Augmentable stuff is all R15 Path A):
ItemSet 264282
But a some of that will be able to change Monday.
I don't have my Requiescat stuff plugged into an itemset, but here:
Code xml
<set name="Requiescat-Low">
<head>Chocaliztli Mask</head>
<neck>Shadow Gorget</neck>
<lear>Bladeborn Earring</lear>
<rear>Steelflash Earring</rear>
<body>Morrigan's Robe +1</body>
<hands>Athos's Gloves</hands>
<lring>Aquasoul Ring</lring>
<rring>Epona's Ring</rring>
<back>Atheling Mantle</back>
<waist>Soil Belt</waist>
<legs>Manibozho Brais</legs>
<feet>Thaumas Nails</feet>
<ammo>Honed Tathlum</ammo>
</set>
<set name="Requiescat-Mid|Requiescat-High" baseset="Requiescat-Low">
<ammo>Honed Tathlum</ammo>
<lring>Mars's Ring</lring>
<feet>Manibozho Boots</feet>
<back>Letalis Mantle</back>
</set>
This is before feet/sword were fully upgraded, and it's not an acc TP set, but Delve gear makes your stats look really *** stupid:
Main issue BLU has is the low HP and limited ability to build a Hybrid set.

HP isn't an issue, at least not for me as an Elvann with 15 HP merits. There is plenty of -PDT/MDT/DT gear BLU can wear, not worried about that. Mostly concerned with getting 630 accuracy in TP set and getting decent attack. The upcoming update should fix most of that.

Eh, with Buramenk'ah it's pretty easy to get 630 accuracy and assuming GEO/defense down/diaIII you need a lot less attack than you'd think (I have more attack on BLU than I do on MNK (before Impetus anyway), probably due to all of the Manibozho.
The other issue with Requiescat is the magic damage phases tend to be short lived, and Formless Strikes (especially combined with Hundred Fists) just does it faster. We've found an application for Requiescat DD in Foret, although JPs use Rune Fencer for that purpose.

Attack is always an issue with delve MB's. They have stupid defense. You need all those debuffs just to bring it down to realistic numbers and even then you need ~2K attack to cap. For example Tojil has 1900 defense, and that's before his aura is taken into account.

With Dia II/I + Light Shot + Bolster Frailty + Angon versus Tojil you cap attack with ~1250 attack. Aura is ~-15% but you should be able to use Berserk full time alleviating that somewhat.

I've always seen bolster used for magic acc+ and magic evasion down (2 Geo's).

You shouldn't need that if you're using Oatixur DDs. The stun wall with Langour + Focus (unenhanced) is approximately 45-50 stuns. Two GEOs gives you two Bolsters, but on our best kill we didn't bother using the second Bolster because it wore off at 9%.
We also have Box step, though so I guess that's probably why attack seems less of an issue to me.

We're looking at not requiring 4~6 MNK's lol. That severely limits the people who can actually participate in events. This is the BLU forums, looking for ways that BLU could be useful, especially as it's essentially a Mura SAM without needing a Mura (after 1H update).

BLU does a pretty good job subbing WHM and keeping the GEOs alive.

Well, I guess you can look at it this way! You can bolster Macc and Meva and that gives you more time to kill it because more stuns, or you can bolster frailty and kill it faster before the stun wall becomes an issue!
Our linkshell looks like this
So the answer for us is obvious, lol.

Also, BLU heavily benefits from bolstered frailty too, probably more than MNK does. Regardless, BLU is definitely worth looking into for Foret de Hennetiel fracture.

I'll bring up the bolster frailty with the group. Honestly I don't keep track of what the Geo's are doing, I'm too busy killing as DRK. We're just trying to not use the exact same MNK x 4 strat as it limits our options for who to bring. Would be looking to replace one MNK with a BLU, but only after the 1H update. Just curious to what people's builds would look like if 4:3 DEX / STR was being used.

Yeah, I built all my sets for BLU in Foret on Monday thinking the 1H update was on Tuesday forgetting that Jul 9 was the JP time for the update. I was going to rework everything today, but I did Tojil instead!
As a bonus, frightful roar lands easily on just about everything not wind-based (if for whatever reason you're caught without angon, just make sure your DRG - assuming you have one - doesn't use Angon again while Roar is still up because Roar is higher priority, etc. and Angon will just be wasted)

Didn't know that roar landed that easily? What kind of sets are ppl looking to use for it? I haven't seen much reporting of BLU on delve MB's. BLU has access to an obscene amount of MA, fully buffed should be swinging non-stop and Req is actually a powerful WS if you can get enough attack buffs / defense debuffs.

Hmm, I can't wait for them to allow CDC on all weapons. That would be the ~real~ answer.
By Gimp 2013-07-07 10:08:06
I doubt you forgot but you have efflux + bilge to use before frightful roar, also frightful roar's macc isn't so bad with a respectable macc setup I was using it on mini provenance bosses.
It may take a few times if you don't swap out for a stave, if I'm following the posts correctly though you can be bolstered by the macc auras.
In short though, the important debuffs of blue are usually cake to land by yourself.

Any idea what this means?
"have an attribute modified by a weapon skill."
I'm confused as to what that means for our BLU spells.

There is a follow up post here:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/26943-New-Blu-Spells/page10
Quote: Hello, Matsui here.
I'd like to inform you about the adjustments to the damage values of physical blue magic spells.
We are currently making preparations to implement the full-blown adjustments to the damage values of physical blue magic spells in August.
There's a reason why I am saying "full-blown" here and I would like to explain what I mean by this.
With the July version update it has become possible to increase the damage value of physical blue magic spells depending on the weapon you have equipped, but in order for this to take place the weapon must have an item level displayed and there has to be stats that modify the weapon's skill.
While this was implemented in the July version update, there are not many weapons that fulfill the above criteria at this point in time and I wanted to let you know ahead of time.
(In the July version update the only one that fulfills the criteria is a club from a new Naakual.)
The adjustment that was made in the July version update was performed in preparation for the new equipment and stat adjustments on existing equipment that will occur in the August version update. I apologize to keep you waiting until August, but we appreciate your patience.
Does he mean the sword has to have "Sword Skill +??" ? I'm not sure myself.

I'm thinking the "+188 XSkill" is actually for blue magic accuracy/attack.
Think something like DRK/BLU: Crazy high base damage on spells!!! The whole "weapon skill +X" thing is building on that, boosting gimped blue magic attack.
As anyone can /BLU, it makes sense the stat would show up on other types of items.
Ps. I'm thinking "Magic Damage +99" etc. is an increase to the base D of spells rather than +%.

It's doubtful that this change is going to make enough of a difference that Blu will suddenly start being invited to delve as a DD. Though I am hoping it does... More likely is that we'll get a spell that provides some kinda utility.

Well I ran outside and cast a few spells on stuff but wasn't impressed... Can't say I've played BLU much since the delve update but i'm not seeing much of a boost (was using delve sword).
Hopefully i'm just stupid and somebody else will report spectacular things
