Salvus mantle: for MDT.
Because Magic defense > Magic evasion IMHO
Boxer mantle: macroed in casting time.
Because of shield/parrying skill and (lol) evasions bonuses
PDT.
Shadow mantle / Valor cape
DEF 15 + occasionally annuls damage Vs. DEF 16, VIT + 6, enmity + 3
I'd be more for the cape i/o Shadow because I don't like w/e is “occasionally”.
Waist
have to choose between Creed Baudrier and Nierenschutz.
DEF 10, enmity +5 Vs. Damage taken -3%
Naturally I'm keeping the Baudrier as MDT stuff,.
But considering that in my usual tank-routine I' m getting more than a spell from the mob w/o switching to MTD set, prolly I have to let down the Nieren
All my pallye stats as far from to be capped because I'm spending most of my event-time as Blm/Drg/Brd.
Just want to be a decent pallye for helping friends in “low impact” events such as missions, BC et similia
Not to mention that Pld was my first Lv. 75, got in Ro' Maeve one life ago.
Make a MDT, PDT, and TP set. If you're frequently getting bombarded beyond repair, make a hybrid set. My fanaticless gear set uses shield gear and PDT in every other slot.
There was a test somewhere, shadow mantle is only good with less than 36% PDT. Anything more and reduction gear, like Mollusca / Metallon, become better.
MDT + MEVA aren't exactly equal, but 5 MDT with -4MEVA gives like, 3.5MDT, or some conversion. Lamia+1 is better for that slot.
I can't understand what you're asking exactly........
I was out of business as paladin since Lv. 75 era.
One full year freeze at the time of the Aby release, then back and full aby immersion as Blm/Drg/Brd, and no pallye at all.
Last serious tanking I did was a stripe of Ks 99 Wyrm runs in Balga's Dais 2 years ago (no Speed belt, as usual )
Once back online, and thanks to friends, I got a lot pld stuff such as full AF3 +2, Galea, Honourbound, Paguroring and alike.
What I need is learning how to use correctly the stuff I already have.
For example speaking about pure PDT : I can't decide between the Baudrier's DEF 10, enmity +5 and the Damage taken -3% of the Nierenschutz.
Or the Twilight torque / Apathy gorget / Creed collar / Ritter gorget .
All items I already have, just need some hints to use them at best.
Ty for your kind answer Kut and ty all for the attention. ^^

You may find the above links useful. pDIF can help explain how defense plays a role. In general, on anything worthy, you look to cap your PDT before looking for defense, unless it is a substantial spike (and even...).
Since you listed Creed belt for PDT, I wonder if you are trying to consider the enmity as well. As such, the other link I provided will better explain how enmity works and in what situations +enmity gear benefits you.
If you in fact meant MDT and you need Nier to cap MDT, it is likely the better choice. If you are already capped, throw on the Creed.
Well then.
After a while (RL sometime sucks, indeed) I'm back.
After some reading here and there (ty again DK) I made out that I'm still where the elders told me in 2007 when I started tanking as pallye.
push up your Defense because of the mob's Attack
get more VIT to keep at bay their STR
build up Enmity / MP / HP / fast cast / skills … and w/e
A Alma is nice for DDing, but Honorbound with Enlight up is nice also. For NMs these day keep a magic/physical defense set ready in your macro. Just remember what Jos said. Nothing sucks more when I Ukkos and the mob comes at me instead of PlD tank. WAR , is not the best meat shield.
For requiescat, Above all else, always use the elemental Gorget and Belt.
It's a fTP carried WS. So the fTP bonus form the belt/gorget applies to all five hits. So get that belt in there.
Also, mekira-oto +1 has a potent effect on Dark/earths day. More than enough to counter the MND loss when the latent is up. If you can afford it, or already have one, it's a substantial, but situational boost.
My Current Requiescat set. ATK/TP bonus Moonshade. Like I said above, I use Mekira-Oto +1 on Earths/Darksday.
Back: Valor cape or Shadow mantle ? Using Boxer's in Curing macro.
Neck: Twilight torque or Apathy gorget ?
Waist : Creed baudrier or Nierenschutz ?
Main: Honourbound or Skeld sword ?
Back: Atheling for TP (easy to get too).
Otherwise could prolly just use Boxer's meanwhile as parry/shield skill help until you get a better shield.
Valor is pretty much useless apart from macros (hp-up for cures, enmity stuff like flash/voke and rampart/cover), don't melee in it.
Neck: I use Fortitude for TPing (acc/att/def), as well as for rampart/cover, due to conserving inventory.
If you don't have it, I'd suggest an acc piece such as PCC/PCA/Ziel, whatever you have available (for TPing anyway).
Twilight is obviously your best bet for PDT/MDT macros, where I use it in a hybrid set as well.
Waist: A haste belt for TPing. Nieren if you need to cap PDT/MDT in your sets.
Otherwise Creed will help you to mitigate more magic dmg if MDT is capped already.
Also, hp+ and enmity for a cure-macro is nice.
Main: Honorbound, yes. Work on Almace, it's brilliant.
Edit: Forgot to go into Shadow Mantle. But since I don't have it, I didn't think about utilizing it. I'd probably just use it in a PDT macro or a hybrid set and replace Mollusca there.
For TP set try to get a haste head, even Walahra would be better. If you can't get an 8% haste head then use a blitz ring. Also, a Dark Ring or other PDT ring would probably be better than Paguroieda while fighting.
Even af3 +2 head would be better for tp despite having no haste. At least it has shield skill and also convert damage to mp, and with that you get an even higher chance of af3 set proc.
