I have a friend that runs the same antiquated hardware as me, and he suffers lag like a mofo in dyna, omen, and lilith fights.

I’ve never got a terrible amount

we both play vanilla and live within 15 miles of each other.

who knows really

So, I'm building a BST Scythe setup or three, just for funsies. I managed to get a 37k Spiral Hell with the Ambu Scythe last night on Apex Bats!

But what would you recommend as a build for Spiral Hell? I was just stacking STR+INT and WSD.

If there's a cap on outgoing network traffic then maybe they build the outgoing packet collection in an arbitrary way where certain characters or accounts tend to be near the top of the priority list for any given instance.

One thing I've noticed is that when I run 6 characters in the same Dynamis instance I'll get packet updates at different times for different characters. For example sometimes an enemey that has died for 5 of my characters will still be present/targetable by the 6th character for another 4~5 seconds.

This doesn't happen to any one character/account specifically, it varies from instance to instance, and all of the characters are being played from the same desktop/IP address.

Is blurred harp +1 and Ghorn the same for lullaby in potency just Blurred Harp +1 has a bigger AOE? I'm questioning why I see it in my .lua

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that strings had a bigger range than wind but wasn't 100%. Thanks for the confirmation

It's not G-Horn specifically. All wind instruments have the same lullaby range. Read the Fcking Manual https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Category:Lullaby

when I see someone post a question about "their lua" and wondering why certain gear is there and not other, it screams someone thought building jobs in FFXI was just a grocery list.

Understand the mechanics of what your job does, and you'll never wonder again. Think its just a list of ***you have to buy, and then it gets hard. Because you tried to jump a step.

That's how it's played now. "Borrow" a lua, find all the stuff you "need", go buy it, play it mediocre. then put it all in your moghouse. Job change. Repeat.

(and yeah that's not an entirely new concept, just more of the players do it)

used to be, you built the lua(spellcast, ashitacast) based on the gear you had, instead of using it with the gear in it whether or not you own it

I wont' say I hand wrote my luas from the scratch from day one- I have VERY little coding knowledge and honestly, have gained more of that knowledge from studying things related to this game than anything in my personal life^^

I will say, however, the way I was taught was to find a lua that FUNCTIONED the way you liked, erase all the sets, and export/make your own based on what you had, and your needs. You're right that nowadays its grab an existing lua, likely made with BiS gear, and just let the slots you don't have be functionless until you do.

(of course replace lua with xml as appropriate ^^)

Actually reading and looking for answers is also an improvement.

I see people in NA having much less issues than me in 18man dynamis and JP people almost having no issues at all. Maybe its not about ping, but simply how many servers are used on the way?

I really doubt this issue is based on continent. If that's the case we'd hear more EU people complaining. I can see people in JP suffer less lags, but outside of JP it's probably based on service provider.

I've been playing with a JP divergence group for over 2 years, and experienced different scenarios of lag and delay in divergence runs where sometimes if not most times I was the only person suffering, the Japanese location based players had no issues.

As Baniak pointed, the number of servers used within the route from your home connection to servers in Japan highly likely is a factor that will reflect in the overall experience. At the same time, as Afania mention, the service provider is responsible to choose the best and shortest path to the destination.

According to traceroute tests I've done to SE FFXI servers using looking glass from multiple spots globally, the results are roughly:

US West Coast: ~100ms (quite impressive despite the physical distance to Japan)
US East Coast: ~160ms
Europe: 200~220ms
United Arab Emirates: ~150ms

This is a traceroute from my home connection based in UAE to SE servers in Japan.

Hop 1 is my local network
Hop 2 to 4 is intra-country
Hop 5 to 7 is Singapore
Hop 8 to 18 is Japan

Just send the cash from Dbox.

Im aware the 1M limitation, but you can grab few chars and send it. Or just send 1M and wait for him to look you back

you should make a post in the asura forums and title it a player warning thread. everybody on asura loves drama thus getting you the most eyeballs staring at your post for the most amount of info.

Does anyone know if there are any alternatives for ChatMon? It's not working properly for me, only activating with some chat types, but not the ones I want (I do have the notification set to all, before anyone asks).

ANyone did WK this campaign?

I did recently with 5 chars twice and none got AW-WK kupon.

I thought it was garanteed? Or do they just have low drop rate?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: NVM just got one, i guess very low drop rate.

What's better for FFXI and multiboxing (3-4 instance):

An I3 8100 4 core 3.6ghz or an I7 9700k 8 core 3.6ghz?

I'm worried the cpu with more cores will end up giving far worse performance with FFXI.

That's not how any of this works. More cores is never a bad thing, each core can work on it's own tasks at the same time. FFXI being single threaded means that each FFXI can only be worked on by one core at a time.

I3 8100 @ 3.6ghz has a single core score of 2257 on passmark.

I7-9700k @ 3.6ghz has a single core score of 2922

This means that each of the 8 cores on the I7-9700k can do about 30% more work in the same time as one of the cores on the I3-8100. Not only that, but with twice as many cores, you're less likely to have instances crowded by other programs.

Let's say you run 4 instances on the 4 core CPU. Each instance runs on a core, but you also need windows to run, discord, chrome, anything else. Those are all going to be scattered between cores, competing with the FFXIs tasked to those cores.

You run 4 instances on the 8 core CPU? Each FFXI instance will have it's own core entirely to itself, while the other 4 deal with your other junk.

tldr; no contest i7-9700k is better, that's why it's more expensive, sorry if that's not what you were hoping to hear

Not sure why folks think FFXI can only use one core, Im fairly sure it got switched to multi core ages ago.

You can see this demonstrated in your resource monitor:

If you watch you'll see it has dozens of threads per instance, and it will bounce around between multiple active cores multiple times per second.

A multicore CPU absolutely will perform better on FFXI.

That's windower using multiple threads not FFXI. All your addons are each using their own thread.

Regarding the Altruism/Focalization effect attributed to Pedagogy Mortarboard, does it need to be worm midcast or is precast sufficient to get the additional effect?

"Enhances Altruism and Focalization by increasing the odds that a weather-related Magic Accuracy bonus will activate by 15% per merit level."

And... how much is a 'weather-related' magic acc bonus?

Oboro won't take materials for JSE weapon (Ohtas). I try to trade him the cehuetzi pelt, adaman sainti, darksteel claws and 150 plutons but nothing happens. Any thoughts on why this might be?

I've made other JSE weapons with him and finished a relic to 119III, and I don't believe I have any weapons in the process of being made.

I have started trading in excess job points from mastered jobs, but I can't imagine that that is stopping me, is it?

Ugh, I'm an idiot. I already made that particular weapon ages ago and just didn't look in my Mog Locker.

Are you trading exactly 150 Pluton? 99 + 51? Otherwise everything lines up.
