Sadly, any good Obama does won't be felt for a few years when someone new comes in to take the credit alla Clinton.
Kind of how good government should be really. Our government is so nearsighted anymore, and you look at thriving countries with governments that know how to plan for the future (China) and they already have a roadmap for the next few decades.

Our cycle is basically:
Spend a year of campaigning to get someone in the White House.
Spend 3 years trying to get stuff done that shouldn't take half as long as it should because of the filibuster in the Senate giving too much power to the minority.
Spend a year campaigning, trying to hold your office.

Repeat. Or...

Next guy that comes in is from the other side of the aisle and immediately makes a push to repeal any legislation you might have been able to pass.

What.. I meant more that Obama could do a lot of good but he wouldnt get the credit he deserves for it because the effects usually arent felt till someone else is in office...

The feed is ridiculously bad now. Not watchable. That's a shame because they're about to start the Q&A part. I wanted to see his reaction about SOPA and all that.

Though it looks like they have a panel answering questions instead of him.

I hope they upload the full version for us to watch, or someone is downloading it as it comes in and uploads it.

Yeah nothing on TV about it, it's all individual network synopsis.

Is the sound bad? or just the video?

Getting like 1-2 seconds of audio/video every 3-4 minutes. Otherwise it's just frozen.

Its what keeps the system working and the big difference between a republic and a democracy. There is a good quote out there somewhere, along the lines of, a democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep deciding whats for dinner, a republic is 2 wolves and an armed sheep discussing whats for dinner.

I don't have tv at home, but really these SOTU things are the grown up version of a pep rally.

The loss of jobs would be through attrition. That means nobody would 'lose' their job. The jobs would go away as people naturally moved on.

While the jobs are gone, it's not a sudden impact to those filling them.

Ah, the Clinton did good stuff but it didn't come around until later argument.

Like the housing bubble.

Actually I meant Clinton GOT the credit doing good things when it was Reagan's systems/ideas that actually did it.

He can't really call himself the jobs president if he blocks the keystone pipeline after shutting down oil exploration in the gulf then giving the Brazilians billions to explore in offshore drilling. But the music is good and sounds nice so lets vote for him because i get a thrill up my leg when he talks.

Yes because importing oil from overseas is way cheaper and much safer to our environment because there are never any problems with tankers. Loving the gas prices right about now. I'm partial to this conversation because I used to be a delivery driver lol.

He's just pandering to his base by stopping exploration, other countries are in the same area so there is no environmental impact of his decisions, but his supporters don't know any better.

gas prices are the prices they are because people still use oil for heat, and because of opec, two ridiculous ideas...

they come up with a plan to wean ourselves off this ridiculous dependence on oil and then we can drill for more.

as to tanker vs drill site and environment: our coastal environment is a lot less threatened by a tanker than an oil rig.

Ty for helping me understand the mindset there. Always wanted to understand the logic of the EPA types. *** other environments, as long as ours is good were cool. Is this the consensus? opec controls our domestic production?
