so whats life like in a post zombiefied wasteland? would survivor communties be like ramshackle towns like megaton? or quaranteed zones of old cities kinda like the strip in fallout vegas?
I'd look for some place with only a couple of ways in or out, so you can post up guard stations.. Actually, a prison would probably be a really good place to set up camp, a smaller prison at least. The real problem would be making sure it's clear before you pile everyone in.
Do daily checks on the fencing to make sure there's no holes or anything.
Older prison, if possible. The ones with big *** walls and not just scare-you-so-you-dont-try razorwire. lol
Well the chain link fencing and razor wire would just be an outer parameter, there's still the extremely secure prison building itself.. I'd find some way to make a warning system that tells you when fences are being pushed on (like bells maybe?) and also electrify the outer most fence, not like "oww that hurts" electrocution.. I mean like extra crispy KFC electro-***-cution..

I have, there's no where you won't be vulnerable, but if they zombies are good enough to get into a prison, you can bet your *** they'll be in a house or some other makeshift base even quicker. I choose prison because they're easily found.. Sure an underground bunker would probably be more secure.. But good luck finding one.

As far as OP is concerned, I'd imagine a rifle would be optimal. I mean worse case scenario you have 2 uses for it, ranged firing then if you run out of ammo start using it a la club style by smashing the faces in with the butt of the gun. Honestly don't think survival chances would be altered too greatly with either choice, but what do I know, I'm not much of a zombie fan...lol.

Noise attracts more zombies.. Ideally you want to remain as quiet as possible.. Short of a silenced weapon, guns are a really bad idea and should only be used in circumstances that absolutely requires them.

Would be ideal for a melee weapon. Slashing/piercing/blunt all in one and extremely durable. Very useful in non-combat situations and fairly light weight. No clue how you'd manage to get one until after the military gets wiped out, but it's what I'd want.
And hating on an axe for going dull is silly. It just becomes a hammer with a more focused edge (and with a longer handle in most cases).
As for a gun, something that has lots of readily available ammo, relatively quiet and isn't prone to jamming if you don't have enough time to care for it perfectly.

Kinda the reason why I say it can kinda be used either melee (club), or ranged (idk what situation would take use of this if zombies are attracted to noise, but the option would be there).
Alright, so im having this argument with this dude on which weapon is better if there would be a zombie apocalypse. I think a crowbar would be best since it doesn't run out of ammo, but he says a rifle would be better. So I'm asking you guys... Which weapon do you think is best? Or better yet, which weapon would you use if there was a zombie hoard coming at you.
