Ditto. I find a frequent need to keep to myself, whether to my own devices or mental state. Spouses and children, as wonderful and fulfilling as they can be, will likely put heavy restraint on that liberty.

I understand, and completely agree. However, being as antisocial as I am in general, I find such an objective rather difficult. Especially since we all subconsciously alter our perception and behavior accordingly to being around or with others as opposed to being on your own. So while it's possible to be comfortable and at ease being yourself around a significant other or otherwise, there will always be that "weight", in a passive sense.

Obviously it also comes down to affinity. If you are someone who wants to be mainly independent you probably won't build a relationship with a clingy monkey. You'd understand each other's needs and respect the "alone moments". As long as you don't take too many of those moments it's fine.

Yeah. Though I suppose it would come down to distinguishing one's independence from distancing, which can have an adverse effect and infringe on the foundations of the relationship. But I'm going to stop talking about that, because frankly, I'm not really qualified to have any valid input on the matter when it comes to friendships, relationships, or any other kinds of ships.
