Wait you call boxers/briefs pants? <_< And there are some of 'us' that call pants trousers.. Mostly only people over the age of 50 though. They also call 'em britches.

Well, in all technicality, the American term 'underwear' refers to both panties and bras/boxers and undershirts or whatever you choose to wear, not just the English 'pants' part. All of these articles of clothing are worn under something, wherein we get the term from.

The only time the type of 'fry' is really specified is on the menus at restaurants.. We just universally call them fries, steak fries, thin fries, crinkle cut fries.. They're all just fries.

what gets me, is there's a UK show called "supersize vs superskinny" where a huge person and a tiny person swap diets for 5 days, so they each can see where they're going wrong....and when it shows what they're having for dessert, the narrator-person will say something like "but today, Mary is only having a pastie, with a chocolate bar for pudd"

and i'm always like O.o because it makes it sound like they're having a chocolate bar for pudding or something. i know what they mean, thats just one of the colloquialisms i can't wrap my head around.

no, not all of our languages there were many languages here before europe even considered coming here. But yeah man a lot of the time we have the same reasoning behind a word change as you had
