(these are probably already shows, i don't own a tv lol) Streaming services have been getting exponentially worse over the last few years, but they're still nowhere near as bad as cable. My parents still pay for cable, and they'll have either the Food Network or HGTV on in the background when we come over to visit.
Not only are they paying roughly four times the price of the ad-free Netflix subscription for it, but a half-hour block of cable isn't even 22 minutes of show anymore. They're lucky if half of the block is show.
You'd think they'd be trying to compete. But instead they're just trying to squeeze as much as they can from the few people who haven't yet unsubscribed.
But good news! Last week there was a great moment where my dad couldn't watch a playoff hockey game because his cable puked. So we showed him how he could watch the game legally and for free on the channel's official app. And because watching sports was one of the only excuses my parents had for their cable subscription, I think that put a nail in its coffin.

Prompt: Use what is available on the internet to write a 500 summary about the tale of Prime in FFXI. Make it sound like a fiction based on reality.
"Prime, the enigmatic and paradoxical character in the immensely popular online MMO Final Fantasy XI, stands as a testament to the complexities of human nature and our relationship with the digital world. Despite his love-hate relationship with the game, this insatiable avatar finds himself entangled in a web of endless online battles, always eager to acquire the latest and shiniest in-game gear. Consumed by this virtual world, Prime's real-life persona pours all of his disposable income into the game to ensure that his digital self remains on the cutting edge.
Prime's story began like that of many other MMO players, drawn in by the allure of a sprawling virtual world filled with adventure, excitement, and camaraderie. With each passing day, he found himself increasingly captivated by the stunning visuals, complex gameplay mechanics, and the sense of belonging within the community. Unbeknownst to him, the game that started as a casual escape from the monotony of daily life would soon transform into an all-consuming obsession.
As Prime delved deeper into the world of Vana'diel, his appetite for in-game success grew. This desire for achievement led him down a path of materialism, as he became fixated on the acquisition of increasingly rare and powerful gear. Before long, Prime found himself pouring his real-life disposable income into the game, justifying his expenditures as necessary for his character's progression.
It wasn't long before Prime's real-life obligations and relationships began to falter, as he prioritized his digital existence above all else. His family and friends watched helplessly as he slowly retreated into the world of Final Fantasy XI, his once-casual gaming habit now a full-blown addiction. Despite recognizing the detrimental impact the game was having on his life, Prime found it impossible to break free from its grasp.
The core of Prime's obsession lies in his insatiable thirst for shiny new toys within the game. From rare weapons to exquisite armor sets, each acquisition drives him further down the rabbit hole. With every upgrade, he feels a fleeting sense of satisfaction, only for the gnawing hunger for more to return soon after. This continuous cycle of desire, acquisition, and dissatisfaction fuels his addiction, keeping him tethered to the game.
Yet, even as he devotes his time and money to the game, Prime harbors a deep-seated resentment towards it. He recognizes the hold it has over him, understands the sacrifices he has made for his virtual persona, and begrudges the game for what it has cost him in the real world. This internal conflict breeds a love-hate relationship that leaves him feeling trapped between the two worlds, unable to escape the clutches of the game but simultaneously resenting it for its grip on his life.
Prime's story serves as a cautionary tale about the darker side of online gaming, where the lines between fantasy and reality can become dangerously blurred. It raises important questions about the nature of addiction, the value we place on virtual achievements, and the sacrifices we are willing to make for our digital personas. Ultimately, Prime's tale is one of human vulnerability in the face of an increasingly digital world, a stark reminder of the potential pitfalls that lie in wait as we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of online gaming.
In the world of Final Fantasy XI, Prime is both a hero and a prisoner, a shining example of dedication and a symbol of addiction. As his journey unfolds, he continues to serve as a stark reminder of the power and allure of the virtual world and the love-hate relationship many of us share with it."

You ever go back and purge stuff from your PC? I was just clearing out some old Steam games and fell into a rabbit hole of deleting stuff that I haven't used in a long, long time.
I guess in the past I've never done a very thorough job, because I've found applications from as far back as 1998, and stuff like Skype. Do you guys remember Skype?!
I opened up about 100 GB from my SSD and about 400 GB from my HDD, almost doubling my remaining storage lol

New Star Trek Online trailer for the update next week, showing off the revamped Enterprise-F model (and nothing else).
YouTube Video Placeholder
But the revamp won't actually be available for players until sometime in June, despite the fact that the new model has been ready for so long that it was used as the basis for the ship's appearance in Picard season 3. I wish I was surprised, but this level of incompetence is basically standard now. ._.;
At least we're getting some Strange New Worlds stuff with this udpate. Really hoping for the uniforms. @_@;

i upload everything to my onedrive and googledrives and always deep format all my stuff or just trash it. I'm really hesitant to evolve to using the cloud, especially as my sole storage space. I had the same conversation a few weeks ago when I almost threw my new laptop out the window because Windows 11 seems to be completely based around the use of OneDrive, and doing even the simplest thing seemed to be impossible.
Especially since the whole point of my having a laptop was so I could continue working on my personal projects during my then-upcoming 30-hour trips. And if I couldn't access the internet, I couldn't access my files on the cloud. So I wanted to save stuff locally. And the laptop just would not have it.

I've always yearned for a sequel to Mario RPG: Legend of the seven stars.
Paper Mario "is" that. Same style combat (timed attacks and dodges) rotating cast of randoms. Cutesy.
Quote: Paper Mario is a role-playing and action-adventure spinoff series of the Mario franchise, developed for Nintendo by affiliate company Intelligent Systems. The series is renowned for its distinctive visual style, which consists of 2D paper cutout characters moving about in 3D papercraft environments. It is considered a thematic and spiritual sequel to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the first game to introduce RPG elements into the Mario franchise, and follows many conventions established in that game. The first installment in the Paper Mario series was launched on Nintendo 64 in 2000/2001, and five sequels have since followed: four for home consoles, and one handheld entry, with an additional crossover title also featured on a handheld.
(I would like an actual sequel though, but there are also mods. There are crazy as *** versions out there of the original game but completely altered bosses. Summons. Rebalancing.)

A.I isn't in itself going to make anyone rich.
It's going to allow you and anyone who generates any kind of value, to do so, just that faster. Depending on the type of work, often far better quality too.
It's a productivity enhancer. One still needs to offer value in exchange for value.
Oh yeah, it certainly has a lot of value for optimizing work. For example, I do a lot of macro coding in Excel using VBA. Traditionally this meant copying and pasting code from other files, painstakingly creating it from scratch, or looking for solutions on the internet where some guru will make a forum post with code that is 100x more complicated than it needs to be. But now I can just ask ChatGPT to do it and it gives me simple code that only requires minor adjustments. how concerned are you that A.I is turning out to be the greatest moloch ever?
I give my profession 2-3 years max before strategists, transformation, change management, marcoms and other corporate-type jobs are entirely A.I'd. Digital Marketing was already pretty ripe for being entirely automated.
I think that we are going to have several years of lag time between when AI can start replacing people and when people actually start being replaced en masse. This happens any time there is an emergent technology that is a game-changer for industry. I believe that it will be an adapt-or-die situation for many businesses, but there is a decent window of time for everyone to figure out how in the heck to integrate it.
In a vacuum, business would change rapidly in response to the new technologies. The kicker here is that it will take years for governments, unions, lobbyists, etc. to fight it out first so that we don't end up with massive amounts of unemployed people.
The growth potential for AI outpaces our capacity to adapt and far outpaces the average response time of bureaucracy to regulate it effectively, so who knows how this will play out in the end.

And much of it will be fought out in the courts.

Man I started the spin off walking dead world beyond and I've never wanted the entire cast of a show to die so terribly before. This ***is hot garbage. Even at double speed just to get it over with.
I want every one of these *** to get munched in the worst possible way. And I'm betting none of them do. So disappointing.

Sounds like you Opened C door before the group was ready?... so the timer for the Bhoot had started? At worst the group misses a red chest... not the biggest deal.
Realistically, every PUG group should go through what their route/objectives are before entry. That said, it wouldnt hurt you to look into the full list of objectives and mechanics on the Wiki before joining PUG groups.

The growth potential for AI outpaces our capacity to adapt and far outpaces the average response time of bureaucracy to regulate it effectively, so who knows how this will play out in the end. The defense and security/military are the outlier to everything above, which I agree with. I see the lag you articulate in real life every day. Still have debates with other executives about why Cloud is actually superior and safer than onprem, for example. Those same dinosaurs are the reason adoption of tech like this will take a while. That's one argument. The other is, there are some pretty progressive corps/orgs/companies out there with true tech-savy CEO's/executives who are pragmatic and bring zero ego to the table. The type that don't give a damn if they're the smartest person in the room, just that their smart enough to realise who is actually the smartest. and those guys are going to incorporate A.I to drop their overheads, increase their efficiencies, accelerate their growth, EBITDA's, margins etc. and they are relentless about it. they will outpace their competitors, do it better, do it cheaper, faster, more accurate.
I agree about tech adoption rates 100%. some civilization discovers fire, the wheel, bronze, gunpowder, steam engines, establishes a navy or w/e and has a monopoly on it for a limited period of time, and advantage. until eventually it becomes common, and they lose their advantage due to less than necessary innovation.
The only thing I would add, is the pace and timeline of this particular disruption. I think we are used to change happening in 5-10-15 year timeframes. I think this will be in months, a year or two max.
The laggards are going to be decimated.
Samsung just announced it banning any and all A.I on all employee issued hardware, including phones.
I wouldn't invest in samsung.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
