I only have 2, but mainly because I didn't buy my first one until after I graduated from college.

They by and large didn't exist until after I graduated from college...at least not in anything resembling today's.

not even a tiny bit of money when the ipod and ipod nano first came out? that is impressive.

My first MP3 player:

After that I used my PSP for a couple years until I got a Sony MP3 player that I liked a lot. After that I got another Sony MP3 player that was higher capacity. And after that a Motorola Droid took over.

How many people realise how many natural resources are used in their smartphone and what the impact is on local economy/ecosystem/society?
the answer is likely lower than you think!
I try and be aware as much as possible, but its impossible to ban it entirely from your life unless you live in a cage.
I'm very carefull with food, clothes and shoes, I'd rather pay alot more for something "locally" made then the cheaper import stuff.

Electronics is almost impossible to buy responsibly, although We did limit our needs to just one really good gaming pc which I also use for work and didnt get consoles.

Its just a choice people make I suppose, its true if you want to change the world start with yourself.

some would say we are rightly designed that way to thrive and survive as individuals
No. Absolutely not.
Humans thrived because of their social ability. Survival of the fittest never meant strongest, and cooperation brings success to a species because it compensates where adaptability gets to a limit for the individual. Humans necessitate other groups of humans.

I never bothered with an actual MP3 player for some reason. Used CDs for a really really long time, then went to my PSP hooked up to my car stereo. After that I got a smartphone and it's been Pandora ever since.

Then again, with where I live you didn't really walk or bike to anything unless you wanted to walk or bike for at least 25 miles one way.

On smartphone talk, I've had my Droid for about 6 years now. Not a single scratch on it. However it *** sucks now. Freezes a lot and is super *** slow, as well as an OS update it forced upon me a few years ago removed a lot of the built-in features it had. (Had a notification bar that lit up different colors depending on notification. Update made all notifications only show a white light. Lost the built-in flashlight function as well.) Sometimes when I try to open a specific app, that app will open and so will another one on the phone randomly. Already been scanned for viruses and found nothing.

Any smartphone older than ~4 years is going to have a lot of slowdown yeah as the Apps are continuiously updated and optimized for newer systems and OS's etc

How about the phone completely freezing when you go to open the default messaging app or the phone app? Forcing you to do a hard reset by holding the volume-down button and the screen lock button.

It's also done this freeze when trying to watch a webm on the phone. It freezes whatever image I have on the phone up as well until I reset it. Which one of these days I feel like the reset is not gonna work and I'm gonna have a porn webm froze on my screen. Nothing like a pair of *** or *** permanently on your screen until the battery dies.
