I hate to break it to you, but there has been landmark court cases regarding the baking of one's cake. If you haven't heard about it, a bakery is going to the Supreme Court in determination of one couple's cake.

I don't see any pies getting that kind of judicial attention or media coverage.

Therefor, the Truth still stands.

If you want to look at it as simply putting it in your mouth, masticating then swallowing it. Cake has more layers to it though, emotions caught up in it. A couple cutting their wedding cake together for instance, or a farewell gift. When someone sees a cake you made them and are brought to tears of joy it's a very special feeling. They can be comical (suprising a gay person with a fanged vagina cake is hilarious), they can be somber, they can be whatever you want because it's mother *** cake.

Pie is great don't get me wrong, but saying it's better is like saying someone is inherently a successful business person/good with money if they are rich.

Oh, you're bringing emotion into this? What's more iconic than getting a pie in the face? Not to mention, when has cake ever made it to the Billboard top 100 list? Red Velvet = chocolate with food coloring.
Lemon = honestly the only cake I've had that was remotely interesting.
