For those who have recently started playing Terraria: Join via Steam.
It's so much more fun to play multiplayer with people you know-- I must warn you though, it gives the potential to become very close with said people somehow. I have a couple of really close friends who would both tell me that is where we "clicked" and I'd have to agree with them. It's like there is something about Terraria that makes you bare your soul to people in the form of giant two-dimensional renaissance era castles... and, you know, words and stuff.

My problem with Steam is that people have diffferent avatars and change screen names so much I forget who everyone on there is and feel bad when I want to talk to them about a game or something because I dont know who they are.

We just got really lucky and got invited to do it every Friday night. It started out with just me and two friends and eventually grew into a pretty solid group of about eight people. Boring IRL has been getting in the way of us meeting lately however T_T

Some one should make a D&D version of FFXI since the combat is so slow I think it would work pretty well.

Poor Ohji...it sounds like the system will start, OS will start, but your laptop's keyboard won't work--and when you plug in a USB keyboard that also will not work? Or just the USB keyboard?

I've been dreaming of this ever since we started playing D&D. Trouble is, my wife and I are the only two who play who would know anything at all about FFXI-- although, that could work to our advantage as well. It'll probably be years and years before I ever get to be DM though. I could use that time to print out all the maps and convert the mission storylines into scenarios though XD
I still think we should attempt to do DnD online.

I would personally absolutely love to get in on the Dresden Files tabletop RPG system with some people (I believe it uses Pathfinder as well).
I simply don't have the people around to do it or, honestly, even the time to do so really.

I have tried that. It's possible that the problem was the people I was doing it with and not the activity itself, but if you're going to do things online anyhow, I think, at least for me, it's more worthwhile to pick a random MMO and play within that.
If you're playing with friends it almost doesn't matter what you're playing, just that you're getting immersed in lore and RP with friends.
I almost did this with LotR Online. But I decided I didn't need to move on from the marijuana that is FFXI to full-blown heroin. And that's what a Tolkien MMO would be to me.
