If you've never been to Naples(or at least its province), there are very high chances you've only had mediocre pizza in your life.

And this includes other italians actually. If you go to Milan, Venice or Rome and expect to eat "the real italian pizza" prepare for a crusty disappointment.

Supposedely NY pizza should be based on the original neapolitan thing, but I've never been there so I can't really say if that's accurate.

I'm from that region of pizza and bagel snobs so o understand.

However, it is sort of its own breed. Like orangutans and gorillas.

Are you saying some primates are better than others?

Why do you have to bring that primatist stuff into RT? :/

Speaking of Italian food? What is up with the hot chocolate in Sicily?

Not sure if it is like this everywhere but it is like thick hot pudding there
Two cases:
either it's just a Ciobar(you know the german thing)
or if you were there on carnival it's something that people eat on that festivity in many regions(including mine) and originates from Basilicata; prepare to be amazed at the culinary horror(but oddly delicious) that is Sanguinaccio!

Sangue means blood.

Because it's prepared with dark chocolate...and pig blood. It sounds like a satanic ritual, but it's the actual recipe(although some people are creeped out and substitute the blood with liquor).
And yes, it's dense

And speaking of food, tonight I'm gonna try to make mashed potatoes for the first time.

I foresee failure in my near future.

Peel them, boil till they soften, drain water, use one of...

...these to mash the hell out of them. If you want to add a bit of garlic, basil, parmesan, etc. Do it while mashing or mix it in later.

That's how I've done it anyway. >.>

If you have extra, you can heat up a pan with a little bit of oil in it and ladle out small amounts of mashed potatoes and make fried potato patties. This I haven't done but I've eaten them.

Yep, looked like that. Was very, very rich (good) and super hot.

Don't leave them in the boiling water too long and don't over work them (no food processor). Otherwise you will get glue

A hand mixer is sufficient

It's very easy!
Just boil them until the insides are soft like a baked potato.
If you have an electric mixer you can make them very smooth or if you prefer lumps just mash them with a masher.
I like to use a lot of butter and evaporated milk in my mashed potatoes, but be careful not to make them runny!
(also salt!)

Take an apple, core it, wrap in aluminum foil and fill the core with a mix of cinnamon and sugar mixed in butter, close the wrap and put it in the oven for awhile, anywhere from 15 mins to three days, and when it's done, BOOM!! Baked apple.

Wash, peel, put in water, test with a fork (if it slides off easily you know it is done), drain water, and begin mashing.

Milk and or butter then anything else you want like garlic, pepper, ranch, cheese, etc etc while you mash them. Mashing can be more of a chore than jerking off a stubborn guy. So use a blender/mixer after you first break the potatoes up. That old school picture of a potato masher is for chumps.

You can do it!

Oh, and I am probably one of the only ones here who finds the idea of chocolate and pigs blood to be a perfectly acceptable and enticing dish. I would love to try that.

We make mashed potatoes like this:
boil flowery potatoes in the skin, peel the potatoes
cover your pot with a centimeter (sorry metric!) of milk, and add a half tablespoon of butter, wait till thats melted and let it thicken a bit, add potatoes and let heat, nutmeg, pepper and salt, mash. enjoy

I can do metric because I realized it was a superior and global system and use both :P

My watch gives the time in 24-hr and the temperature in Celsius
But do you go by week numbers?

We will grind the bones of attractive virgins into a dust that we shall use as breadcrumbs for some delicious chicken.
attractive women usually arent virgins, or are we talking attractive nuns?
