Plugins are written in C++ and compiled/distributed as binaries. Addons are in lua, and you can see the code in the addons directory (and contribute!)

I can't paint it green, already been done in build fighters. Can't paint it blue, no real point since it's originally blue. Can't really paint it gold or yellow, that'd be an eyesore.
The point of it is to give it a motif of the bird Suzaku, the asian diety of the south, summer, and fire. Red is a fitting color for it, as it can also turn into a bird :0
