Hey, I'm not the one saying it. Toriyama has never denounced it as non-canon, and Toei/Bandai treat it as an alternate timeline in recent products.

Elder Kai, who is basically a god, gave his life to restore Goku to his body because Super Buu was pushing Gohan's ***in once he absorbed Piccolo and Gotenks.

Keep in mind you guys are now talking about two different situations.

During the tournament(before anything about Buu was known) Goku was still dead(halo and all) and was pretty much just given a chance to be on Earth for a wee bit to fight in that tournament. Pretty sure he had like a 48hour time limit(was probably longer than that). His first fight against Buu was actually while he was dead if I remember correctly.

The Elder Kai revival came much later when Goku was needed on Earth again to fight Buu after he'd transformed.

Hell even Doctor Who turns to ***. The ONE rule is that you don't cross your own timeline, period. *** THAT TRIPLE CROSSING.

The ONLY exception to this rule is Chrono Trigger.

Time travel in DBZ was fine though.
The only problem is that it coincided with some of Toriyama's worst villain designs, so he had to keep making up new "totally the real villain of this arc" so his editors wouldn't laugh at him.
And to be honest, I'm cool with that because in the end we got Cell and he's pretty much
