A friend of mine killed herself this morning. She was a baby, not even 21 yet. I just don't understand how people can get to that point where they are willing to hurt themselves and risk the unknown versus manning up and facing what life has to offer. This is a double whammy for her family because her uncle was killed last year. She and I weren't even that close, so I don't know why this is hurting so much. Maybe because so many of my friends were extremely close to her and I feel so horrible for them. I don't know. In any case, I'm going to bed. Enough of this crying ***.
All I can tell you, is sometimes you get backed into a corner, or find yourself in a hole that you just can't seem to get out of. No one can really help, despite them saying constantly 'come to me when you need help' or the like. Some just can't handle it, others, like myself, break through and become stronger for it, but with a new perspective, one of sympathy. I'm not saying I would just be okay with, or accept someone I cared about killing themselves, I wouldn't turn a blind eye (despite the fact that I damn well know I can't help) but I would at least understand it. I wouldn't call them selfish or hate them for it, nor would I really wonder why. I've been there, I know how it feels, I barely made it out myself. In the wake of death people often think they could/should have done more, or feel guilt, surely there were signs you must've seen.. The truth is, unless someone is just bat ***crazy, the signs are very subtle, and you have to actually be looking for them to really notice them, and if you are looking for that behavior in the first place, it probably means you already know, or at least suspect it in the first place.
^^^^ this!!!..could not have said it better. I am Tired of seeing ppl say the ones who suicided took the easy way out. The journey to that state of mind is hellish and unforgiving and it doesn't happen over night. It takes months or years to get That depressed and to feel that hopeless. And once you are at a place of no return it is a miracle If you make it out. People who have never experienced prolonged depression (months to years not just weeks) don't understand how badly screwed up your mind gets because the brain chemistry gets so terribly out of balance.
I believe its looked at as "the easy way out" because, as you said, its a tough experience to go through prolonged depression (or whatever may lead you there) and to end your life is an escape. Plus the only people left are usually sad/angry/epressed that your gone and only they have a voice left. I'm not condemning or supporting anything here just trying to shine a little light on the phrase...

Sorry this "Easy Way Out" is a pet peeve of mine. I understand very well why ppl call it the "Easy way out". They compare their lives to the person who committed suicide thinking no one has it worse than they do. Never thinking that the person is being severly abused or in a situation that would leave even the strongest person defenseless and in dispair.

First, this thread is 'random thoughts' it's impossible to derail :p

Second, like I said, when you make it through that, you come out with an entirely new perspective. People who haven't been there rarely understand just what it all means, and how important it is to of been there to understand in the first place, and then there are those who climb back out and sit on their high horse "well I did it, why can't you" which is just as bad as not knowing.

It takes an amazing amount of will to push through all the *** for years and finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and be able to look back at the last few years of your life and say "I made it", not everyone has that will. Not having the will doesn't mean they're weak, it means their will has been broken, once you hit that point, it's almost inevitable that you just stop fighting. But even if you stop fighting and your will is broken it still takes a lot more than some people seem to assume to actually end it.

Even those of us who are depressed, and thinking about it, are just as scared as any other person of death. What will greet us on the other side, will there be an other side, will my family and friends understand or will they hate me for it, are things really as hopeless as they seem... Questions like this constantly swirling around in your head for YEARS (it's not just months).

O.0 okay that one I can't explain.. Just how close is this friend? Maybe he has the hots for you, and is scared to tell you for fear of rejection and is just trying to make you distance yourself from him.

Yes I'm a straight man and I love the movie, although I've had an obsession with Titanic since way before the movie was ever even conceived.

It's quite easy to like someone else and have a GF, in fact it's highly plausible. I don't blame him for not just waiting for things to fall in place and have you jump in his arms.. People need companionship..

Maybe try slyly to see if he has more than friendship in mind.

Just go with it, relationships always have problems and issues, if the only issues that are posed by a relationship with him is you trying to get your life straight, well then you're doing pretty damn good..

Yeah it's shortly after the ship starts sinking, he tells that cop dude of a body guard or w/e that he makes his own luck before trying to bribe Murdoch for a spot on one of the life boats.

I don't mean to... ummm... put any less emphasis on what someone is going through. I'm sure whatever the person is going through its extremely difficult for them. I was just trying to say that I don't think people are saying these people have it easy... They are talking more about the action to end it... not everything that led up to that... that make sense? Like I said before, the people left behind are hurt/angry/sad/etc. I guess the questing that runs through my mind about it is do they think about the people they leave behind? or is the depression or what not so crushing that they can only focus on ending it by that time... anyways I'll stop now as it's a touchy subject and I don't want to push too hard one way or the other and such...

And that can all be easily explained by the fact that he wants more than friendship.. If you like him, then find out, you seriously need to get out of this shell, he could be the one and you're just going to let it pass because he won't say something first!

You don't have to flat out ask him, but there are countless ways to either get him to "tell you first" or find out if that's the issue. For example "What would your perfect girl be?" if he describes you, then there you go. He's probably hoping you'll pick up on the signals. It's hard for a guy to tell a friend that he likes them, insanely hard, because on one hand it's killing him that she's not with him and even keeps throwing their self at douches when in his mind, he's perfect for you, but also doesn't want to lose you or make things awkward as friends if you reject him.

I didn't read all of this but... Have you told him he's been pissing you off/hurting you? If not try it out? Idk.. I always figure if people are going to *** you around like that and be your friend only when they're alone or bored its a friendship doomed to repeat the cycle and I move on... but yeah just think to yourself if its worth it, confront him (or not) then decide either way....

If you leave things as they are though and don't do much, sorry to say but your dooming yourself to the same thing over and over...

bah i dont know lol i dont really wanna talk to him that deeply right now lol still really hurt D: hes told me before how his current gf is perfect cuz shes smart, likes sports etc. but he liked hanging out with me cuz he could nerd out with me. I think part of the problem was i kept talking about how internet guys were throwing themselves at me before and i dont know if i should just ignore them or wat lol he always get so mad when i mention internet dating etc lol part of why he got distant was he thought i was gunna just keep online dating and then move away like i did before lol but i stopped internet dating already :\

Honestly if your questioning if its even worth it I mean shouldn't that tell you something right there? Personally, if its worth it I always confront the situation (yes I know not everyone likes to do that)... If its not I let it go and if it ultimately fades away so be it...

Orrrrrrr..... Homewrecking time!!!!!! lol...
