It's not solely that the "number makes me afraid of posting", it's that I really just hate seeing people disagree without explaining why they disagree.

EDIT: And not only that, I also fail to see the benefits of having a rate-down button.

Change is part of life, man. Surely, you know this.

When intelligent people make observations, it often causes them to think or analyze those observations. This leads to discussion/suggestions/debate, and sometimes, ultimately, change.

However, here @ FFXIAH, it doesn't seem like this applies. A post could receive 100 rate-downs, and there's no consequences (I think?).

I always thought that the rate-downs were a good indicator to the general population's opinion of what was said. Explaining why/why not you agree with something... well, that feature already exists. It's called "Reply." And really, all I am going to do is spend a couple minutes writing some smart-***, sarcastic paragraph, save it and copy paste it anytime I felt the need to rate a post down. I bet I wouldn't be the only one, either.

As far as screenshot moderation goes... after about a dozen threads about, I still don't see what the big deal is. If you share a photo with the community, expect their opinions. If you do not like see people's screenshots, then don't look at them. What's the issue?

Maybe I'm just because I'm in a bad mood or something today, but I'm finally going to speak my mind about a couple of things on this site. I expect a lot of people are going to gain negative opinions of me after this, but there are two things that I really would like to see changed on this site.

1. Screenshots. It's been brought up on a few occasions, typically people complaining about how much hate WoW-related screenshots get and stuff like that, and a moderator always steps in saying "We allow it so all you haters cut it out". But the question is why do you allow it? I'm sure lots of people like myself are indifferent, but if so many people get so worked-up over it, rating the screenshots 1/10, rating-down positive comments towards the screenshots, and both parties making topics that end up as nothing more than locked flame-wars, then why not just stop it already? It's a problem of leniency, which is obvious in how the screenshot moderators appear to allow pretty much anything bad or otherwise controversial through the filter. I just looked through the recent screenshots and saw an image from Facebook making fun of a guy whose cat just died. That's not humorous, that's horrible taste. That's like the Family Guy joke where Peter makes fun of the little kid crying for his deceased mother taunting, "[name] misses his mo-mmy, [name] misses his mo-mmy!". And there's other screenshots that shouldn't be allowed too. Why are obvious troll images whose sole purpose of being there is to piss people off not removed? Why are screenshots of peoples' equipment with the character's name for the sole purpose of making fun of them not removed? If you're going to moderate screenshots, you seriously shouldn't allow images through whose sole intents are to harm people.

2. Rate-downs. I really just don't like them. Never before have I ever seen a system on a web site that has been so negative without any single benefit. They scare people from making posts, they get under peoples' skin, and they allow people to just go on rampages and just rate everyone down. The point of the rate-ups/rate-downs is to allow people to agree or disagree, but I don't think that's proper forum etiquette if they're not obligated to describe why they disagree. I see no reason to get rid of rate-ups, but rate-downs need to go. I don't know how many times I see a comment I've made that was rated down and ask "Why did someone do that?". It doesn't help anything when people are left there wondering what they may have said wrong. I'd gladly fix my post up or perhaps rebut your argument if you had one presented, but you just hit [-], then all I know is that there's at least one person out there who disagrees with me and I can never know why. There's a reason why only a small handful of forums ever use rate-ups and rate-downs. Forums are about free speech, and writing a huge post just to exit out of the window because I think that someone, somewhere out there might disagree with me is just wrong. If you continue to allow rate-ups, then you can still distinguish between good posts and not-good posts, but rate-downs are just bad to have. As long as people are not obligated to rate up or rate down every single post, the system is broken anyway.

That being said, I expect to have a -30 on this thread before I even come back to check on this thread. But if you're going to rate me down, PLEASE at least give me the courtesy of explaining to me why you disagree.

TL;DR-- If you're going to moderate screenshots, make the filter a little tighter. And rate-downs should simply be removed. Thank you for reading.

i fail to see why you don't undestand that they really only moderate legaly questionable material and probably gore. as for the rate downs, grow up. there will always be people who dont agree with you for no reason. if you wont speak your mind because you're afraid of what peope may think then you are pathetic and should go find some *** self confidence.
