Well in maryland they have a lot of mexican, salvadorian, and dominican. Barely any puerto rican restaurants. only 1 domincan place close to me actually makes mofongo, its good but its straight dominican. we got plantains here to make some stuff. My mom married a guatemalen sooo her puerto rican spanish is out of order...she started making what her husband eats.

woman, go buy plantains that are yellow colored, slice them lenghtwise and fry them up. THATS ALL YOU NEED! lol
and uh dominican mofongo not the same as puertorican defenately, but they still have similar flavours in their food, so it's close.
still as long as you haz plantains the world is saved.

hmm that sucks, had a friend that lived on the states a couple years, he doesnt even know one english word, but he lived among other people that spoke spanish.

Plantains start green and when ripen they are yellow. you can cook them when they are green but they don't have a sweet taste, the yellow gets super sweet than a normal banana
Plantains are much more firmer and not as sweet. you cook them

well, not banana's, close to that branch though. they can be eaten both green or yellow, when they come out of the tree they are green and as they mature they turn sweeter in flavor and the outside skin starts turning yellow till they rot to black.
and no, you can't eat them raw lol you need to cook them.

You can get Plantains at Wal-Mart, they are green, and as previously said, more firm than a banana.

These are very soft, kinda mushy. Have a faint raspberry-like taste, and here, where I am, are hard to find. I only know one place. And the girl with teal green hair, serving the pizza.. I wanted to touch her in naughty ways.
