yeah, how much craft gear does one need? After obtaining every key-item and piece of gear for the main craft, now what? Do I become member of another guild and obtain every key item and craft gear for which ever craft I switch to?

what the rule of thumb on obtaining craft gear for your sub crafts? one piece of armor? All key items? everything? or perhaps I just shouldnt bother.

What do fellow crafter do or have done? just looking for advice. Thank you.

Um, get the items that are worthwhile to make gil on....?

For example, there's no point spending 40k alchemy GP to get Alchemic Ensorcellment when you won't make anything worthwile form it?

I don't really understand why you'd be asking this question.

this all depends on what recipes you will be looking to make, and if the +1 on a sub will get you over a tier or not. For myself, I got the leather gloves, and goldsmithing glasses along with every piece of Clothcrafting gear. I thought about the Alchemist wand for about 10 minutes, but decided against it. Alot of people simply get the cooking hat/ bone-gold-cloth glasses when those are their subcrafts simply for looks. Since the only piece you can get is the 70K GP item on a subcraft (fishing is an exception), it doesn't really do anything functional unless you have a specific recipes or recipes you want to be able to reach a certain tier on.

wow, that was alot of ramble.

I have not gotten to this point yet with crafting but my thoughts would be to at least get what you need from the main craft first.. and if you are able to do a second/sub crafts GP items then do them but i would say that the main has more influence on the actual success then anything else...

Generally only worry about the key items that you will use.

Only worry about subs + crafting items if you for whatever recipe(s) you plan on doing are closer to the cap on the sub then your main. After taking into account other bosst like mains gear or synth support. This might break you a tier. Maybe not but will improve your success either way

Some key items are useless. Sheeting in Smithing comes right to mind as does Fletching in Clothcraft. Some are even worse than useless like the boltmaker, which eliminates item multiplication through HQing. Some are useful for leveling that craft, I used Concoction to level Alchemy on stackable drops rather than potions and ethers and ... forget its name but it lets you make the Fragrant Ram Skin needed to make, and level on, the High Breath Mantle.

Basically if you have everything you need on your main craft, at a minimum the armor, furniture, and sign, get the 1st armor in every subcraft.

Some key items are useless. Sheeting in Smithing comes right to mind as does Fletching in Clothcraft.

In this particular case, I couldn't disagree more. Sheeting is extremely helpful to make a quick buck. I don't know about other servers, but staple synths, like iron and mythril ingots > sheets are profitable. Saves a lot of time to snag a few stacks of ingots and only do ½dozen synths to make 30-50k gil.

I respectfully disagree, the majority of the "synth multiple at a time" saves you money on crystals and more importantly (to me anyways) time. The exception would be boltmaker, get it only if you have guild points to burn or never expect to HQ a bolt synth.

Sheeting allows you to make 6 sheets at time. Saves you 5 fire crystals and 84% of the time per synth.
Tanning is a must if you're making leather in the field. For every stack of vats, you carry 2 less stacks of dark crystals and 2 less water.
Fletching is useful for all of the above reasons if you're making arrows.

As far as the Purification/Ensorcellment KIs go, I find them to be of limited utility. Prolly want to get in your main craft just for completeness sake, for subcrafts usually skippable. Exceptions might be made in a few cases (Gold purification lets you make RR earring at ~40 goldsmithing) Others do research and use common sense.

Regarding the armors, get apron for main craft (or two pending update) and the head/glove item if you think you'll use that subcraft. (I also like to wear the sunglasses in town ^^)
