Health Care Reform Passes

This. We are the only major developed nation in the damn world that did not have sweeping health care for its citizens. The amount of money saved by keeping Americans in the workforce alone (not to mention, you know, alive) is worth the extra cost. When I was living in Japan, everybody had insurance. The national healthcare covered 70% of everything. The medication I have to take costs more than my rent does per month, thank goodness I have a health care plan. I hate to think of anyone else with my disease who doesn't and has to choose paying through the nose or blinding stomach pain and malnutrition risks because you can't keep anything down.

The "socialism" thing is a pure label issue. Canada, Japan, and a horde of other countries are all as capitalistic as we are, but at least they have the decency to keep their people healthy. Socialized healthcare works, and people who would suffer otherwise will get treatment, and that matters way more than any rhetoric bogged down by Cold War paranoia left over from the previous generation.

I hate to get sentimental, but yeah, this is the first time in recent memory I feel like my country is moving forward instead of backsliding, and it makes me a little bit prouder to be an American.

It doesn't matter if its the right or the wrong choice.

The U.S. government is put in place to carry out the will of the American people, not dictate to them what their will should be.

You tell me if Japan has the same % of people who are nothing but lazy leeches who plan on doing nothing more than squeezing every last cent out of this new plan.

To many people here believe that everything is their right and nothing is earned. This is only going to make it worse.

As long as we're trolling, wouldn't those lazy leeches be too lazy to deal with the bureaucracy to the extent they need to to "squeeze every last cent" out of this (In your view) "entitlement" program.

The problem is these days people think they can just let the government take care of all of our problems and run everything, it's that kind of attitude that is going to destroy us.

Far as I can tell, The only ones bitching are the ones that will now have to pay for insurance, instead of skimping on it. And to the guy who keeps bitching about not enough Doctors to cater.

What was happening before? Ya'll were dying cause you were too sick? Just leaving people to rot in the street cause you're too much of a tight *** to afford health care? The hospitals and doctors will cope just fine, and with more people paying insurance, There will be more doctors and what not to be employed.

All I can say is, it certainly isn't any worse than our former health care situation.

I was born with a relatively minor heart defect, one that was just serious enough to warrant semi-annual check ups, so I've been walking through the health care system literally my entire cognitive life. Once I became an adult, I found it was far too expensive to have insurance with a pre-existing condition that requires a specialist. There's really too much to say, I don't agree with the changes, but as far as I'm concerned, it's like going from 0 to .05, which is still an improvement.

I'm Canadian and we have socialized medicine here. I think it would be a huge improvement if the USA had a better healthcare system. lol
