*tries the Summon Selennia Spell, just in case* Not sure about the exact words, but I think it goes something like this... One day before but...Merry Christmas my fellow LGBT friends! <3
Merry (belated) Christmas my fellow LGBT family!
It is I, your thread author. Fenrir.Schutz said: » Ah well, I think we lost Selennia again, for another year or so. :/ *tries the Summon Selennia Spell, just in case* Not sure about the exact words, but I think it goes something like this... Confused by what?
Author didn't invent anything, dating sim games have been around for quite a bit. I mean it's certainly not the strangest thing I've ever seen, but I genuinely had no idea that existed
To each their own. Have fun '-'*) Well, it's a fast game, once you've played it through 3 or 4 times you'll probably get bored of it, but at least the first time is pretty funny.
99% of dating games are about dating japanese schoolgirls, it's refreshing to have something that does have erotic XXX moments, but it's not about only that. I found the script brilliant, some moments were hilarious and made me genuinally laugh and, most of all, it seems a "believable" story set in a believable, realistic scenario with the correct contextualisation (with a lil bit of suspension of disbelief of course, it's still a story and not a documentary). Nothing to do with the Yaoi crap and those super fake scenarios, it looks like a story written by a gay guy, I loved it :) I like the idea of a gay dating game...but $18.99 for what looks like an above average flash game. A little bit too expensive maybe.
Possibly expensive yeah. I wouldn't say the game is "just" a Flash game though, there's an unexpected quality behind the project and I gotta say the script is really really well thought.
Imagine reading a gamebook, an interactive book with lots of illustrations, set up in a college. The story begins with you comin out with your room mates and then there's plenty of things you can do or not do, and the game will change a lot according to what you say to who, how and when. It's as simple as that, it's a very "old" type of game. I think it's closer to reading a book than playing a videogame. So, given the type of game, it's a reassuring discovery to find out such a well thought script. You might be over-analysing what Minjo is saying, perhaps. He might simply be amazed that "yaoi"-style dating-genre ero-VN-games exist, rather than simply that visual novels (as a medium) exist.
Visual novels, as a much more broad gaming genre have a lot of popular examples, already...the Phoenix Wright series by CAPCOM is a visual novel with crime/mystery/courtroom intrigue plot elements and mini-games. On the other side of the (popular) spectrum, one could argue that Dragon Age and Mass Effect series are, at their core, life/dating sims with fantasy/sci-fi RPG/FPS/3PS-mission gaming elements attached onto the main plotline (and even gay/lesbian romances possible.) Of course the sheer bulk of het ero-game dating sims (as a sub-genre) represent the majority of examples on the spectrum of VN-games, but the niche yaoi/otome/yuri genres have a following, even among the indie developers outside Japan. I personally adore VN's in general, and dating sims/life sims as a sub-genre. As a hopeless romantic, I really like seeing charas I like getting together (whether in a 'chaste' storyline or 'ero'/H-style story) as I would watching fun romantic comedies or dramas. At their worst, such games come across as amateurish fan-fictions. But when a well-written script, punchy dialogue, appealing art-style, and a touching background track all come together, VN's can border on epic high-art. ^^ I've personally had satisfying catharses and epiphany-inspiring changes of perspective just from playing well-written VN games. :) And quite a lot of them, being indie-developed, are either free or have free-demos available on their dev websites. ^^ Yeah Schutz, I have to agree.
With so many free games out there 18$ looks even more expensive than it did before (it originally was a kickstarter-financed project). Despite that, I think there's really a lot of production quality behind this particular title. I suggest you at least try the demo (I haven't tried the demo honestly but I assume it should give a good idea of the full game at least) Offline
Schutz be hating on my fondness of VNs. :(

Oh and hi. I don't think I've posted here before, but I suppose I belong here (unless you toss me out on my arse). To me, if I like/love someone, what they have between their legs just isn't a factor. I'm female, if it matters. I'm on Bahamut and anything else you want to know just ask. I reserve the right not to answer but asking won't get you killed...usually... |
