Good morning everyone.

So last night was interesting, and I'd love some opinions from people here. My boyfriend and I were talking about various things we can do to start saving money once I start working from home, and one of those things were getting rid of both our cars and trading them in for another car, specifically a chevy volt (but thats beside the point). Well, later in the evening I could tell something was eating at him so I asked him what was going on and he told me that he was having anxiety on what would happen if we split up and only had one car, and various other things now that our relationship has moved forward so far. He said it was caused from a break up between a couple that he was friends with, and how he always pictured them as a couple that would last, and now their relationship is in shambles.

I just worry that he's thinking things like that, what if there was some sort of underlying reason that created those emotions or feelings besides just his friends break up. I asked him and he claims there isnt, and I really want to believe him, but now I feel like I'm fearful of something else.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a reasonable concern any practical person would have, to me.

For me, there is a certain amount of independence that needs to maintained in a relationship. By only having one car, I would feel like part of my independence is being taken away. (Not that I ever do anything, other than drive to work, that would require me to have my own car.)

I wouldn't over think it and start doubting your relationship because of it. It will just make things worse because now you are doubting his motives, which will in turn push him away.

I don't think it is too much to worry about, shifting just to one car is after all is a pritty big step forward in commitment since you will now be relient on eachother for transportation. If you overthink it however it could lead to damaging your relationship because you are doubting eachother.

Yeah I totally get the whole 1 car for two people thing, it would be tough, and before this even really came to light, I said the first thing we'd have to do is really consider the kind of lifestyle change it would be. Im sure I'm just over thinking it, so Ill just have to forget about it.

I think you both need to sit and consider the ups and down of this and see if its honestly something you both want. Im not gonna lie imo I dont think the 1 car thing will work. Even if you work from home say 1 day a friend wants to meet for lunch you would have to wait for him to come home with the car ect. Your friend could probably pick you up but idk it would bug me. Also I think you are worrying a bit much which is ok just talk about it.

I could go for some warm weather too XD
