I successfully persuaded the main admissions advisor for my medical school to participate in a program that identifies them as an individual who is willing to provide a safe haven, a listening ear, and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people or anyone dealing with sexual orientation issues!
Hopefully, this will spark a change in the department to uphold their diversity statement and a welcoming atmosphere for future medical students of the *** identity!

Tell that to my brother's father-in-law and wife. I dare you to call them Mexican or Latino... You can try to lump them all together but they really don't share the same culture nor do a lot of Americans from similar backgrounds. Skin color has almost nothing to do with culture.

Also, you can't say that there is no such thing as "white culture" and there is such a thing as "black culture". Again skin color has little or nothing to do with cultural background. Even if you say African culture... African culture =/= 100% black. Ever see that Seinfeld episode where the white guy identifies himself as an African American because well his family is from Africa and you know you just get that sterotypical feeling like african american = black when that is not always the case.

I'm of Polish and Irish heritage but in actuality I consider myself American. I don't follow or partake in any of the cultural events/practices for the polish/irish so why consider myself such?

I can see setting up a program that targets high risk individuals but I don't understand why it would want to turn anyone away. It would only create a sort of social stigma that could make one feel as there is no outlet or help for those in the minority...

The program that started all this arguing didn't turn anyone away. :o Or maybe I'm misreading something. :X
