Calling it Pop is like calling a train a Choo Choo
Soda Vs. Pop Vs. Soft Drink Vs. Soda Pop

Soda because Coke refers to cocacola or diet COKE where as theres lots of different brands of soda and can be anything which is why you should specify

pop just sounds so 1950s.
though when I was little I thought the appropriate name in public for soda was soda pop so when writing or talking to people Id say soda pop..but I was like 6 at the time.
Im not exactly sure what the locals call it..Ive lived all over the south and southwest so its safe to just go with Soda.

From Iowa here(pity me!)
We call it Soda, though a lot of people from the Chicago area call it Pop or Cola(Most of my cousins are from Chicago area), Out in California my Uncle and his family call it Cola.

Pop because it "Pops" when you open a can. (And i'm from Canada so thats what everyone calls it)
Soda or Cola. Pop sounds like something I'd call my grandpa, coke sounds like coca-cola, and soda pop and soft drink are excessive when you can just say one word for it. Pepsi and Mountain Dew are the yummiest! <3
Oh, I'm from Idaho atm. But I was born in Michigan and grew up in New Mexico, so I don't know if that has much influence on it.

Cola should be its own thing, too ;; everyone calls it cola just as much as soda :p
I just call them by name. like if I want a sprite I say sprite. or a coke I say coke.
