Aye, Liela. You need the bad in order for the good to come. Life and relationships isn't all flowers and sunshine. You need to overcome life's difficulties and disagreements/miscommunications to get a better understanding of one another and take it to the next level.

Sadly, for most people the burden is often too much to bear and breakups/divorce soon follows. But for those who can be patient and truly work things out together as a couple I give major kudos to.

The romantic thing I did was for an ex-boyfriend about 7 years ago.

We were walking together and I happened to see a pretty flower and I picked it when he was turned and I gave it to him.

I used to go on night picnics with my girlfriend and have long walks sometimes along the river near my old home. We both always loved the night so sometimes we'd spend hours just sitting somewhere private like the hills along the creek talking about whatever came to mind, and we both loved that.

I'm not really sure what to recommend for a proposal... I know every woman likes different things and has different dreams/fantasies. (Hell we all do.) If they honestly love each other I doubt it won't be special; as long as it's not something uber cheesy or something completely stupid, she'll be happy to hear him propose to her. I think though that since he might know her better than any other man he should really come up with his own ideas for it. Suggestions could help but...I'd still prefer something I myself came up with.

I think this has gone beyond the point of salvage.
