Just to make it clear: I'm not desperate.
I'm just anoyed by the upgrade path of the new gear.
After 21 years in ffxi soloing seems to be the only challenge left.
New Limbus... having to force my self into doing it for months just because I need that earring is a nightmare. And yes, I need that earring... like everyone here does.
I do Shinryu VD solos since 3 years and got almost every drop... besides the drop i want. But its actually enjoyable. Limbus is just anoying. Lag, Spells dont go off for whatever reason... Limbus feels like you fight the game, not some monsters.

I dont think a massively multiplayer online role playing game is for you then. why not? he isn't far from the truth. solo(htmb omen dyna d (technically duo now) sortie etc) is alot more fun(at least for me) than doing group odyssey v20+ & crazy 8-9 boss sortie runs, that being said, 2 things

1. you do not need to run limbus super often, it's more so a casual system, if you are doing solo i would also reccomend setting the lvl 119 because.. its so much easier lol.
and 2nd theres no need to rush to augment it, or even augment it in first place. sure augment is better, but it's not "that" critical to the point where you need to force yourself to spam limbus for months on end, can simply have r0
also. if you want another solo challange, come here to quetzalcoatl, unlike asura the NMs aren't always fought, they're quite challenging even duo

Did I hear someone calling "Farming stuff from Solo VD Shinryu" as "enjoyable"?
I mean, to each his own of course, it's all a matter of subjective tastes and prefereces and I can totally see how tackling Shinryu VD solo and slowly seeing your performance improve can totally be an exhilarating experience.
...for the first weeks? Months even?
But calling it "enjoyable" after years of excruciating farming without even getting what you want sounds like borderline masochistical to me.
I mean, I don't wanna sound judgemental but... yeah.

I'm unclear on the augment process. Not sure if I missed something reading here or not.
You get an item w/ Murky matter or Alabastor matter then you use a 2nd Matter item to do the augment.
Is the augment potency just getting more matter? or can you spend Apollyon units/Temenos units to affect the potency of the upgrade?

It's just getting more matter. The first murky and alabaster matter is 100% drop after each conquest tally, then it's just luck if you get more on your subsequent 4 runs that week. First matter gets you the base item. The next 30 matters raise the rank by 1 level each.

To further elaborate: you do need points. A total of ~650k following the table posted on previous page.
But to spend the points you need a matter too.
Basically for each rank up you need one matter AND the points necessary to reach next level.

XI players: "this grind sucks and I'm running out of things to spend my units on"
Also XI players: "omg the units costs of these upgrades is so high"

Are you sure? I hope you're right but I thought the drop was only guaranteed once based on the update notes. Maybe I'm misreading it or it's translated in a weird way but the "not affected by the treasure chest reset when the conquest results are tabulated" statement makes it sound like a one-time thing to me:
Characters that have never acquired Alabaster Matter or Murky Matter are guaranteed to acquire them the first time they unlock the content*.
* This only applies once per character and is not affected by the treasure chest reset when the conquest results are tabulated.

This is less bad if thats the case, but its still pretty bad.
*The June patch notes were also very clear that you had to get data from all the floors then open the chest at the end of the sector, when you had to get the data from all the floors of all the sectors before you could open the chest at the end of any sector. It was even written as such in JP and some JP players complained about it.

That is the kicker to all of this. The % chance of 3k vs. 5k and apparently now there is a % for matter or no matter. (I also read that 100% for first timers only. If at each conquest tally, then cool!) SE just needs to drop this % game for Limbus, given how grindy it is. BUT, I actually don't care either way, since I enjoy the climbs. /shock

Guys you can always worry about the points later because you don't have to spend the item right away.
Goal should be the 5 chest per week by any means.

Quote: So I ran in a group of 12 last night at 135 tenmos
It's better by almost 15mins per tower
Felt like 30-1h advantage
Grouping up is way way faster than soloing. I've been running with 6 man through 9 man groups for a few weeks and we can clear a floor in about 2-3 minutes. It only takes like 5-8 kills per floor even with a small alliance or a full group, depending on zone. When you have real support that happens immensely faster than if you solo or low man. 15 minutes per tower is probably lowballing the advantage you get for grouping up. This isn't content you want to do solo. Get some friends and do this event the right way.
Edit: Also maybe I'm wrong about the 100% after conquest tally. That was how I thought it worked by now I'm not sure why i thought that. It might actually be just the first that's guaranteed. Sorry if I misspoke.

People who grinded all their points via botting are now realizing their 30k cap is gonna be an issue.

I think it's safe to establish 12-15mins traversal time per tower without looking at something like central
regardless of lvl and kill time
Alliance and high level 135 go very well for both opening chests and getting rewards and some exemplar
Ideal method
119 fantastic for speed running chests
60points a floor
No exemplar
Very safe can pull everything
I'd love to find an iLVL where I can feel the speed of 119 kills which is roughly 2ws + sc
When I can't group up so I can at least maximize the points for the time spent

People who grinded all their points via botting are now realizing their 30k cap is gonna be an issue. then again, maybe not. We dont know much of the matter drop rate, the sample size is too low to tell anything. So far I'm 6/12 on both Alabaster and Murky, and thats without having any data on the NM kills, but looking at it per character its less pretty:
1/2
1/2
2/2
2/2
0/2
0/2
But I believe I've seen some people say they're 0/8 as well. Lets say someone can average one of each matter per week, thats still increasing their cap by 15k each week. Theres no chance they'll get enough matter to be cockblocked by the RP requirement.

SE: designs casual content, make it's so it would only be bearable 6 boxing. Refuses to elaborate.

ACKSHUALLLY
SE made content that works in various degrees for soloers, partiers, and alliancers.

Limbus climbs right now feel like Odyssey before Gaol. If you don't feel the reward is worth the effort yet, that's fair. Hopefully SE continues to add rewards until that changes, but it already has an advantage in being non-instanced, alliance friendly content with weekly caps instead of daily lockouts.
I'd already rather do an i135 climb than go grind EP, and the design choices make it easier to find people to do that with than any content we've had in years.

Don’t open the first chest with full inventory - you lose out on the guaranteed free matter with no way to reclaim.

Now that I have your attention, if you're reading this message AND have any of the 4 items augmented to at least rank 1, please come to the windower discord so you can help mine the rest of the augments - we can have them in no time but we need to see one real life example.

Once we have the tables, I will edit this post with them for real.
Thanks!
