I would suggest game developers not tie Rp's to specific NM's it would be easier to upgrade all gear.. just my thoughts feel free share yours...

Would be pretty cool if SE implemented where you could turn copper vouchers in to segments akin to plasma, imperial standing, etc. Got nothing else to use em on anymore since the weekly sparks cap.

Ok well maybe not because they were up there upon initial release, which roughly coincide with addition of vouchers.

I know there are a LOT of reasons to hate Odyssey. (I could list all of them but I'll just stick to issues with finishing Odyssey and what Odyssey is missing).

Once you unlock or obtain R30 gear:
  • Gil becomes more important than Segments for Sheo C.

  • You can't spend segments on anything so why earn more?

  • There's no incentive to go back help other people get unlocks.

  • Party slots in RP farms are bought/sold ..because there's no other progression, you can't justify the effort unless people are paying you to do it.

SE could have done a lot to increase the breadth of Odyssey, but it just raises more questions:
  • Why does Moogle Mastery exist? Who's taking trusts into Gaol NMs?

  • Is it an intended perk that you have access to other players Trusts in Gaol? Why is this a thing?

  • For the millionth time, why has SE released content without an interesting or useful CRAFTING component to them?

  • Yes, UNM upgrade mats are nice, but if we're talking about replay value, this isn't it. (I have maybe 25,000 Lustreless Wings across mules that are basically worth garbage).

The biggest problem, and it really pisses me off, is that Odyssey offers ZERO replay value when you complete the climb to R30.

By March 2014 they had tanked to 50k, so that was a clear-cut case of overpriced new shiny.

Thats on you for being afraid that Maintenance Mode XI will implement something in the future requiring the need of thousands of Lustreless Wings for something outside of augmenting +1 UNM equipment. Theres a galka in a tent who buys them for like 300 gil each.

I don't agree that the "problem" with Ody is that there's no replay value. While I agree that there isn't a TON of replay value (once you hit V30 on all your armor), I don't think it's a problem because:

-You can still get gil, which is useful
-It takes most people YEARS to get V25 kills and R30 augments
-Probably < 1% of people have all their V25 kills and all augments at R30

This said, I think "I'm done with ody and there's no reason to do it anymore" is an extremely rare problem that almost nobody is in these days.

Beyond this, it could also be said for...pretty much all other content.

-Vagary gives basically nothing (etched memories I guess, basically just gil)
-Omen gives very little once you have your cards/gear (detritus, basically just gil)
-Dynamis gives nothing once you have your unlocks/RP/volte (just gil drops)
-Sinister Reign gives nothing once you have the gear
-Ambu gives nothing other than gil drops, once you have your gear/capes/weapons
-HTBF give nothing once you have the r/e drops from them (other than gil items, pluton, etc.)

There's not really much content that is replayable once you've achieved the goal of it...

Why does Moogle Mastery exist? Who's taking trusts into Gaol NMs?

Might sound crazy to you now in 2024 (because you're looking at current lense, not release-date perspective), but some people (myself) used Trusts to solo Sheol A/B/C before Segment farms were a thing. The Lustreless materials were very costly back when Odyssey was first released, but Segments didn't exist at the time. There was no Gaol, there was no Gaol rewards or Odyssey gear (besides R15ing your Unity gear). It was just Sheol A/B/C and materials to upgrade your gear. Leveling Moogle Mastery was not only quite fun at the time, but it was actually necessary to be able to kill some of those mobs solo to increase your rank. You might ask why a person would bother soloing back then when you could form a group? Because back then, nobody was bothering to group up for Sheol farming before segments were released, there was literally no incentive. A few people used THF to pick locks and sell the materials, and the rich players decided to bypass all of Odyssey Sheol farming (including Moogle Mastery) and just buy the materials for the gear. Some of the gear on release was unbelievably expensive (like 30m+ to R15 Sailfi Belt +1), so for players like myself, I farmed the Sheols for materials and sold it some for gil and others I used to upgrade pieces. But nobody was shouting for Sheol B Lustreless Hide farming groups.

Eventually they came out with Odyssey Gaol, which just allowed you to bring your powered-up trusts into the battlefield. Oh, btw, before groups were forming to kill off the Atonement 1/2 bosses, I was soloing up to V15 Gogmagog on my MNK and farming RP (before amplifiers was even a thing, yes it took an insanely long time). There is no way possible I could have accomplished that without Moogle Mastery. In fact, those trusts are extremely beefy once they hit like 30+ and can be used as decent companions for the A1/2s up until V15. This was a really neat way to allow solo players to make progress if they didn't have access to groups. Obviously higher veng levels Trusts get destroyed even at MM45, but they serve a purpose for helping people progress through the ranks.

"Progress through the ranks"-- You mean people ACTUALLY did V5>10>15 on EVERY Atonement 1/2 Boss? Yes we did. And to this very day, I still solo some of my own RP doing triple-boss farms, and having MM45 trusts to help me deal 6% damage on each one is a huge benefit that I wouldn't be able to accomplish solo otherwise.

Separate Sheol ABC from Gaol

There's (always) been a secondary motivator for any content, gil/crafts/rare drops

Except Gaol. The only time in the history of the game when there was absolutely nothing secondary. It's not always good secondary motivator, but there was always one, until now.

Edit; (And now sortie doesn't either)

This is a huge climb for any average player. Even I don't even have R30 all gear because I haven't bothered to farm that much. The amount of people who have all gear R30 is extremely limited (and I would argue probably nobody has done R30 every single item, like the weapons and accessories). But let's say for sake of argument someone did completionist 100% R30 every Odyssey Gaol Item: How would that scenario be different from a person who has every single item from Omen and is 5/5 +3 Artifact gear on all jobs? Every content that doesn't offer gil basically has the same diminishing returns after you complete it all. That example you gave is not unique, nor is it really a problem for most players. That's a weird thing to be "pissed off" about.

edit: oh i just noticed Maletaru said the same thing before me

Eiryl proving again he doesnt play the game, he got intimidated by Sheol A first floor and never went back.

Sheol is already built to be seperate from Gaol if you want it to be. Sheol rewards segments, straight gil, and Lustreless loot from trash mobs (IYKYK get *** ***). You can then turn your segments into more Lustreless Hides/Scales, which is essentially gil.

"750 segs for a hide is ridiculously stupid"
Since when has secondary cost:reward ratio really ever been favorable? I mean, we can just nudge on over to Sortie and look how an Old Case is a whooping 80k muffins. We have the aforementioned 2 vouchers for one REMA stone mentioned previously. Literally everything those dyna gobs exchange for 100 pieces (Behemoth Horn 25 Silverpieces lol what the *** was Tanaka smoking).

I don't know, I disagree... I like Odyssey lol.

I use and used trusts in there all the time. My incentive to do it again is the satisfaction of helping other players get wins that are still making the climb. Also don't sell rp farms because well that's just poor form imo, I learned that Asura sells bumba v25 rp farms for 3 mil a pop... I laughed out loud and still continue to take people in that I play with on a regular basis to just enjoy their company while they earn RP that I literally turn back into segments. This concept is called "Community Gameplay" that everyone seems to whine about that we no longer have but don't really care to do anything about.

Segment farms always give you a great amount of gil for the time invested. Lustreless wings are worthless sure, but a player can do A or B farms which also solves the issue of not really needing segments and you can simply earn more gil.

You don't have access to other trusts in Gaol... you have access to the trusts that everyone has in your party. So if you go in with a group of 3 players and they have trusts you don't, you can summon them, its actually a great design in that regard.

Personally I feel Odyssey is actually probably the best designed "new content" that they came out with in a long time. The basic unlocks are able to be done solo with trusts. RP farms can be done solo with trusts pretty effectively for most NM's. Players earn gil, they get great gear from it that is encouraging to augment so it's that much better. The difficulty is actually substantially more from v0-v25. It's arguably the most challenging content in the game hence why many players still don't have full clear even though it was released 4 and a half years ago.

I mean if you were lucky enough to jump in with a group that was already on v20 or even v25's then sure it might not have "replay value" you are looking for... but if you started this over 4 years ago and progressively actually climbed the tower so to speak... it offered a hell of a lot more replay than most other content and was actually challenging from more than just an encounter perspective but it actually encouraged people to gear more jobs thus encouraging even more gameplay outside of Odyssey because of its unique design around its various encounter requirements.

For the life of me, I can't understand why this isn't just a normal QoL adjustment across the board and not unique to Odyssey. I mean, we're playing together on the same team and all, we should all be able to share trusts instead of having to pass leader to the one person who has Ygnas.

About current content not that SE will listen to any of them
Think they did that just so it looks like they kinda care
At the same time though got the feeling they might have some stuff in the wood works
Hopefully not more master levels my highest is 45/50

I am still in shock that somehow "Job Mastery (Master levels, job points)" was the "Abroad" surveyed #3.

That is utterly absurd lol. Good God NO THANK YOU.

This would actually be a neat little reward somewhere in the game, to be able to just share trusts organically like this.

Oh my sweet summer child. I fear nothing. Yes, NPCs do accept items in exchange for gil. Do you consider NPC'ing items an integral part of FFXI's progression treadmill? At this point, I just give them away to whoever needs them.

Odyssey should have a Voidwatch-style Atmacite system, as a way to augment performance. It could be something you build with RP or Segments or Lustreless items, or something, just a miniscule incentive in addition to just going back and helping people to get a clear or farm RP.

If other folks want to be content with the status quo, go right ahead.

You mean like adding Gaol and its equipment that can be augmented? First to R15, then R20, then R25, then R30 requiring completion of a fight so difficult and luck based that people get their V25 win and never kill it again, and instead use an Amp Cheese to get points for the augment?

SE can add "voidwatch style atmacite system", and you'll hit the exact same problematic wall of "I capped out, what now?"

First of all, all of my wings are still in Box form. It takes 2 seconds to delivery-box 99 L.Wing Boxes to a $1 alt.

Besides, being capped out on these Odyssey-atmacites would be fine, because it means you went back and helped other people who needed the climb or need unlocks. Today, there is no incentive to do so. In fact, I know people who've got to R20 or R25 Nyame and just called it "done". They're currently waiting for gear-creep to happen so they can move forward in Odyssey.

....So, why are you so adamant on fighting this hypothetical situation? How many times have you gone back to do Odyssey? What's your idea? If you don't have a suggestion here, I feel like your anger or frustration is completely misdirected.

One of those players that called it done at R25
Mainly because play at my own accord / Pick Up Groups
Only have a basic sub with a handle full of jobs
Would have to find players willing to do 1 KI style

Players I've come across that could pull this off
That come to mind there most likely already done V25
