I've not had to use these yet, so when I hit Kupo Mission 9 (Rescue! A Moogle's Labor of Love) and the various guides I looked at referenced Green Map Markers, I had no idea what they were talking about.

I've only been playing this game a couple of months and sometimes I feel like guides on various sites are written with the assumption that players just know where things can be found in this monstrous game.

If you're on a mission where an NPC is adding Green Map Markers to your map, you can view those map markers here.

On the map screen, find and click the markers button.

It will open the user (purple) customizable markers.

Hit the left or right keys on your keyboard and the list of green quest markers will appear.

Note, for active markers, you must have a map open where active markers exist. For example, there are 8 maps in the Qucksand Caves and the ??? you need to find can be randomly distributed among those 8 locations in the Kupo 9 mission.

They introduce this system at the beginning of the game when you get an adventurer's coupon. Probably most people use Fast CS so they never see it, but this is certainly a better explanation than they'd get from SE.

Wait, the map actually tells you where to go for quests?!?!

This has to be kind of new-ish. I have a ton of custom made map markers and I've never seen auto-generated ones. I was pretty detailed with them in the 75 era.

It's not new, but there are very few quests that actually use them and for the most part those quests aren't relevant to modern FFXI.

It would be kinda new having a feature like Xenoblade 3, where you get shown a line indicating the next step of a quest.

Not few times I skipped steps in the walkthrough only to have to rewalk back just for a frigging dialog

I must have completely missed that!

Yeah, I didn't need to know about this until I was looking for the randomly generated stones in the Quicksand Caves for the Kupo D'etat storyline. Just one of many things I found tedious about the Moogle quests.
